Thunderbolt - Best Buy Availability/Pricing/Ordering Discussion

HDMI is so you can connect your device to a TV and watch, correct?

TB does not have this feature. It has something else in its place.

Can someone explain what it is? Thanks!

It's DLNA compatible so the way they have decided to implement will be via an existing or new docking solution.

Im telling you guys. Don't read into the BB retail price. We mark up phones. The iPhone on VZ is 649. We have it for 699. We try to encourage contract buying. Im certain it will be 649 on VZ. And oh yea, i spoke with the VZ rep again today. He said again it's the 17th. I know it doesn't mean anything. There are too many dates there, but the 17th is what he is saying. Just fyi

They dont price match phones, they are a 3rd party retailer and verizon would be dumb to allow them to do that. Verizon already pays BB loads of money per smartphone activation (over $200 bottom line profit) they wouldnt let them steal VZW store customers by price matching

Sucks to be a VZW customer then. Best Buy price matched my Evo when I bought it in June with no problem.

Guys, I'm all cool with the whole HTC Thunderbolt finally arriving. But am I the only one who finds this price... High? I mean Yeah, the tech is better than say the EVO, but the Adreno 205 GPU and 768 mb of ram... Do they justify the extra $150 off contract price? I mean, the MyTouch 4g has many of the same internals (not the ram) and it's not even that much off contract.

Not to mention, the stupid stand/usb problem and no HDMI out. Is this really worth it?

I was extremely excited for this and/or the Incredible 2, and the Bionic, but if this is the pricing scheme, I'm going to be sorely disappointed in the coming two months.

I pretty much agree lol. I was ready to dump my evo and I was going to straight up buy it but theres no way in hell im paying $749 for it. Hell I only paid $549 for my Evo release day at best buy and it was the FIRST 4G phone. Eh... gonna think about this one some more.

Completely agree that no high end phone should be climbing over $599 for full retail MSRP.

Now that I think about it, I'm ok with the $249 price. It does include the 32gb card. Nice upgrade from my current 2gb card which is completely full!

A couple of us have already noted here that BB did for us EXACTLY what you claim they do not do. I think real life experience has to be taken over an assertion.

BTW, Verizon has no say over whether they can price match phones. If they wanted to they could even undercut Verizon. Also as mentioned BB routinely marks up the full retail price of the phones above the actual carrier specified retail price. This is because what they really want is to sell contracts (they get the extra $$$ that way). So the higher price pushes the uninformed into contracts by making the discounted contract price look more impressive.

A little OT but I never understood why people shop at Best Buy. You can get pretty much everything they have from Amazon, and be 15-50% cheaper.

You can't run over to Amazon on a whim and bring something home 15 minutes later.

Well with the release date confirmed as the 24th I am going to cancel my preorder and go get a droid X from VZW tomorrow and trade it for the TB on the last day of my return window. Cannot stand this ATT garbage any longer!

Just was at Costco they have the Droid X for $49 and they will take it back without any restocking fees.;)

You heard it here first:

Monday the 14th it will be available at BB, the 24th everywhere else:)

no no no. we have heard this 20 times already. even BB is saying the 14th is not going to happen. maybe the 17th at BB but thats a BIG Maybe.

Yea but for $3.99 extra if I can hold out for a few hours I can have it the next day and without being picked over by the store reps...well that's if you are a member of the Prime thing they have

Nothing I hate more than a store rep who cracks open my box and puts their greasy fingerprints all over my new toy before i do. Drives me insane. I was looking at my Tab today and the reps fingerprints are all over the back. UGH!

The price may "seem" high...but keep in mind...verizon's has the top blackberry at 150...and the iphone for 200...I would happily pay 100 dollars more instead of the blackberry and 50 dollars more than the iphone (or 50 dollars less than the iphone...if you consider the higher memory version). They were smart when they priced it.

Lol if it comes out the 14th no one can take credit for it. Weve all said the 14th at some point lol. I'd say we heard it here for the 286th time.

I think most will agree with you on this. $250 isn't a deal breaker

But I think more of us are just a little sticker-shocked at the retail price at Best Buy of $749! I mean, you can get a 10-inch XOOM tablet for only 50 bucks more.

Have we seen the price from BB for the XOOM?
as we have heard from our BB ppl BB marks up retail to sell contracts.. It would not surprise me to see the XOOm retail price at BB around 850, 900.

and fyi Retail for the TB from VZW is rumored to be about 650.

Most of the things I plan on using my phone for won't really need dual core. I would take a single core processor with sense over a dual-core with motoblur anyday. Also, they most likely don't have a date in the ad because there hasn't been an official date yet.

Never owned an android before (and thus probably will not be rooting the phone)....but these type of comments are what is pushing me toward the HTC over waiting for the bionic. Thank you...
