Thunderbolt vs Bionic

They should give him a raise for bringing attention to this problem. Maybe Moto will stick to their word about compromising the locked bootloader and boost their sales.

I think Moto was just putting out the fire with that Facebook post. They'll quietly do nothing about the bootloader and business will go on as usual.

I also feel as if they were simply giving us lip service. But who knows they could develop a nexus device and say here is our phone with an open bootloader. I'm over it tb here is come

I agree with those two... a bunch of BS lip service. No chance they live up to their word on this one. I could care less, although their hardware is "impressive" I am attracted to HTCs overall designs much more.

As far as specs go, Bionic wins hands down. I think if you are planning on gaming that you need the Bionic over the T-Bolt.

If you want to root, get custom roms easier, and have a better "phone experience" then you get the tBolt.

That is the thing too. Most people don't realize locked boot loaders are actually good for people that want a secure device. I hear it all the time, locked boot loader boo. Yes, it isn't exploitable as other devices, but Motorola seems to be pushing for the professionals. They want BB users, not android developers. I want a secure device too, but I also want the option to hack it, and mod it. Motorola should just give the option to download a unlocked loader from their website. Just let me sign a void warranty slip (I don't mind as I am going to bend the chips anyway, and that is only fair to them) and give me a unlocked BL from a SW patch. I am so tired of hearing people whine about the bootloader. Locked is good for the majority of people. Us 5% don't want it, and Motorola should NOT compromise anything. Just give us freedom to choose how we want our bootloader.

Then comes the network politics, ha ha. If the Bionic runs well, I will get it. I never choose my device on exploit ability, as I would get a dev/google phone for that. Just tired of hearing peoples locked BL comments. Motorola has been locking them down since the X. Really? Locked BL is still a point of complaint? HTC has started locking them too. Get used to it. If you want freedom, get a nexus...lol! My very opinionated post I know:cool:

i said the same thing the other day about moto going after business customers / bb users. it was very obvious with laptop an desktop accessories with the atrix. security is a big deal to business go'ers. im not gonna say its a big deal to me. my next phone will be my first android. the bionic is just ugly to me. id rather have the atrix. but i dont wanna stay with att. i have just loved htc designs an sense. tho specs seem better on bionic. thunderbolt has everything i need an want. an its goin to be here sooner than later.

on moto i wish they would just get the ui blur right. stop the blue green kiddy blur. the x an d2 skin looked nice. but from what iv hear the d2 got an update to bring the blur skin back. i dont no what this skin is on the bionic but its better. but reminds me to much of my iphone 3g lol.

but thats wat lp an adw is for.

Guys, can we please stay on topic. The topic is a comparison of 2 new heavy weight devices. Its not about criticizing people for what they want and their opinions regarding the hardware. Some people want a device that is secure and others want a device to hack. Its not wrong for people to state that they want a great phone that they can do with as they please.

We are here to judge devices, not people.

... so they should not let you unlock the bootloader but if you want to they should let you unlock the boodloader? Man your running circles around me here.

Simply put, there should be two options. Locked, and option 2, let me unlock the BL via a SP. I would even sign a warranty waver to have that freedom of choice. I know that won't happen, but hey, it would solve the BL debate.

From what I see, the blur on the Bionic looks nice. It lets one customize the app drawer with folders so there is no need to wast screen real-estate with that mess. You can't go wrong with either, though the Motorola will have the legs with hardware. TegraZone has awesome apps that the TB and all other devices wont be able to run because of hardware limitations. I wish HTC would fix that dock. I like sense, it is like LPP, but the dock and lock screen are hideous, and lack customization. Like you say though, third party launchers are the way to go.

You sir are absolutely right ! 95% of smartphone users have never even heard the term "Root" let alone care about doing it, and are prolly better off not doing so. Also your right it would be nice to have the option to sign a waiver to have an unlocked boot loader but for them to hand that out would mean negative and positive publicity that would leave thier PR team running back and forth from side to side trying to put out all the fires.

I agree sir! That is a good point, and it prolly would cost more too.

Sense 2.0 allows you apply themes to change the launcher if you wish. Also Moto's security practices aren't about enticing business professionals, its about protecting the proprietary portions of their software. They've already stated that.

I may be the only poster on here who knows all the benefits of rooting and such, yet chooses not to. Im the kind of user who prefers everything to be official. Which is why when i was a crackberry user, i never installed leaked os's. My DInc is great just the way it is. My only problem is all of the bloatware on it. But other than that, i don't need to root. The risk is lower than the reward but for what i do with my phone. Rooting is unnecessary.

I wouldn't say you're the only one. Granted, I am rooted, but that's mostly so I can do things such as run apps which need root access (root explorer, Shootme [in some cases], and etc). I haven't loaded up a custom ROM or anything on my phone to use as my every-day set-up, (I have loaded them up, but it's only been to play with it a bit).

Only read page 1 but surprised that people dont care about the small 1400mAh battery on the Bolt. I had the DInc for a month as a loaner and as it was beautiful the Sense UI had random glitches that persisted and the battery life was dismal. I wouldnt want larger version that worried me if I can get through the day.

Nobody's worried about the battery because we know we can install a custom kernal that will take care of that. Unlike the bionic.

Yes, I'm not worried about the battery at all. Kernels and being smart about your apps can go a long way toward increased battery life. My Incredible gets through a day easily with some podcasts, web browsing, maps, several messages, twitter, news, etc.

Hmm never tried loading a different kernel with my DInc because it was only a loaner. Hopefully you guys are right, that just seems like a small battery for a 4.3 inch screen.

The Incredible battery life is awful. A different kernel *may* just make it less awful. but still awful all the same. Anyone who wants to prove me wrong, show me a screenshot of your battery stats. Make sure you click on "display" so we can see just how often the screen is active, and prove to use that you're actually using the phone.

Didn't you say you haven't tried CM yet? ;)

Anyone running Cyanogen should be able to take a screenie easily.
Sure can, but it wouldn't be useful. My phone is often running BeyondPod or Sirius with the display off. If I could actually look at the phone all day, I'd probably have more trouble with the battery.

The point is mr.miagi was surprised more people aren't worried about the small battery. Clearly some are from the other thread we already have here, but as it pertains to the TB vs Bionic discussion I'm not.

In no way am I arguing the battery life is great, just that it's not a major concern.
