If your using Launcher Pro or any other launcher that has a preference of how many columns you want...5 is the best choice. Any higher will shorten your widgets deforming them horribly. And less columns and your widgets might spread out to far and might consume two screens. (half on one screen and another half leaping over)

I like four rows myself, I like that I can have the widgets I use span the entire screen. I didn't like having the single icon width left on the side of a widget.

I'm a fan of 5 as well. Perfectly fits the screen in portrait mode.
