Today is the 18th. WHERE'S MY FROYO!!!

Perhaps for the Android crowd the better question is "What's a vegetable?" Since we?re all undersexed geeks. ;)

I know we all know what a "Double Down" is. ;)

Speak for yourself, Poindexter!

Back on topic, I haven't seen any official word yet either, and that's all we should really be looking for regarding this update. I don't recall ever seeing Verizon release an update that was "rumored" to be released, without them getting in on the action first.

But we'll see......

They are also just quoting Mashable. Every blog and news source is just quoting Mashable.

I suspect Mashable's source just has old info and that patches, being closer to the testing phase, knows better. That proved to be the the case time and time again (and again, and again) in the "good God, Verizon, fix my GD Storm already!" days... :)

Is this update going to fix the annoying "Bump Charge" routine I go through every single day?

Mine seems to fully charge now without having to go through the "bump charge" process. I'm also getting great battery life...running for 24hours and 27 minutes with 51% battery remaining.

p.s. i'm running Skyraider 2.5.2

Since I read the same information patches posted here the other day days before he posted it, is it possible that he got it from that article?

By the way, HTC announced they had no current plans to make Incredible with SLCD, so why would the update need to be ready for it at this time?

One of us is confused -- me or you, I'm not sure which.

Mashable published on Friday that the Dinc would get froyo starting 8/18.

patches said yesterday that we actually WON'T see an update on the 18th, because the build slated for that release didn't pass internal testing. I commented that patches is probably closer to the testing phase, so his information is probably more current than Mashable's source (or the failure occurred after Mashable talked to their source).

So -- what would patches have pulled from the article? Or are you talking about a different article?

Also, AFAIK there hasn't been any "announcement" that HTC would not be building the Incredible with SLCD. A poster here said an HTC CSR told him that, but as several fiascos with the EVO and Incredible have proven over and over again this summer, HTC CSRs are incredibly unreliable (pun unintended but welcome). There has been no indication that SLCD models are currently in production, but neither has there been any that HTC has called it off (of course, that wouldn't surprise me given that the Nexus 1 is no longer being sold by Google and Verizon now has the DX and D2 to divert demand for the Dinc -- but again, they've not stated it definitively).

1. The information patches posted here was in an article the other day before he posted it. So, his "source" is either days behind the other source, or his source was the same article I read. The article I read came before mashable one.

2. HTC announced there were 2 phones they would start making with SLCD and neither was the Incredible. This was an official announcement. They COULD change over later, but they are not doing so at this time. Again, this was from HTC press release, NOT A CSR. Also, there are a few legal steps they will have to take before they can make the change and they have not made them yet.

Ah, I see. What other article? I Googled it and came up empty (although I have seen patches comment here bandied about on a few other sites). (Also, you missed a third option: he was the source for the article you are referencing. ;)).

Yes, HTC did say that they would start putting SLCD into the Nexus One and the Desire (the Desires are already in the wild). But I don't see that as tantamount to an announcement that they won't ever put it into the Incredible; there may be additional steps they need to take, but those are just that -- steps, and they can be completed at virtually any time.

Regardless, "reasonably minds can differ" about the import of HTC's announcement, so I won't belabor it. But I will choose to trust patches based on past experience. His note suggests that Verizon at minimum expects an SLCD-based Incredible, and wants firmware that supports it (aside: if you've read about some of the screen issues SLCD-Desire owners have had with custom ROMs, its unsurprising that there might some incompatibility). That expectation seems to be consistent with Verizon's removing nearly all references to AMOLED from the Incredible section at DroidDoes.com, so I see no reason to discredit him. It's entirely possible that HTC does not want to foreclose the possibility of adding SLCD to the Dinc whether or not they have immediate plans to do so, so they are going back to the drawing board.

What is Skyraider?

sky raider is a custom rom, with froyo and either sense or vanila, im running the sense version and i can say its pretty bad ***. only glitch ive noticed is some times on rare occasions the notification bar glitches when clicking on a new sms, and there's a 1-2 second delay in screen rotation. its not serious but it is a little longer then stock.. other than those very minior bugs the rom is def worth the grab.

A change in the screen will take many steps. Since HTC announced when they were first considering it and have since announced they were not presently doing it, it is safe to say they wont be coming out soon, so why would they need the current update to work until they have made the phone?

As for this guy being the source, I dont know patches, nor do I know if this is the same patches everyone says was a great info source. If he is right, he will have the cred with me. Until then, he is another poster with "sources" who posted information I had already read somewhere else.

1. My take is that it's not as troublesome as it might seem -- they moved from concept to shipment on the Desire in about 5 weeks.

Regardless, it makes sense for Verizon to insist that all future Dincs must support a current single build of the OS (and they very likely have test hardware if either party ever even entertained the idea of an updated device -- no way VZW isn't testing it out before they even make the order). It is in Verizon's interest to have one "phone" on one build of the OS, since two builds on the "same device" would be problematic from a support perspective. And bringing them both to the same platform after the SLCD version is available (if at all) requires another OTA update, which is onerous and somewhat risky (e.g., crush of support calls). And it is also in HTC's best interest -- they have a hard enough time updating their phones without having to turn out multiple updates per product line; it also simplifies production to the extent they are pushing out both variations at the same time.

That doesn't mean there will be SLCD-based systems, only that both parties would be smart to be prepared for it if it is still a possibility (which it has to be -- supply of the screens may have loosened for now, but HTC must now know well that they are too at the mercy of Samsung).

2. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy, but anything's possible. My guess is he'll be right and we won't be seeing Froyo on 8/18 (but I don't know that you'd disagree with that prediction).

You would be right that i dont believe the update is coming Wednesday. Just another set of rumors.

I do not believe waiting an extra 4+ weeks on the update is a smart business idea since it includes fixes that are needed for many users. I feel they are best off releasing an OTA now with the fixes and then the correct froyo, OR release it all for the current phones and then a second one if they ever do have SLCD

Exactly! I'm not one of those users but they should have releeased a bug patch update to take care of current issues and THEN concentrated on Froyo.

Well, Dincs are back in stock at VZW, so not to sure about the SCLD thing, see main page.
