transferring apps from one phone to another?

How is that done specifically?? Do I go to the App palette, enter, locate the .apk app I want.....then what?? I don't use cloud services (looks like I need to start :-\ ), and I'm having senior moments (due to meds) about how to copy to my computer then copy to the new phone. In addition, I have no way of knowing where the file is located on my old phone......it's not rooted :-( Where would I find it? Thank you.

an example:

using ES File Explorer, go to Homepage in the file explorer, this can be done from the top-left menu icon >> local >> homepage.

now go to top-right to app >> this shows all of your apps >> choose select from the bottom, and select the ones you want >> choose backup from the bottom. they will be saved into a storage area that is either predefined or somewhere you have chosen. i think the default is a folder called 'backup', but not sure.

plug the charging cable into your phone, then connect the other side into the computer - if it is 2 USB ends, not a mains power plug. then i think its automatic, or you may need to check your phone status/notification area for connecting as USB device.

the idea is you then use the computer to navigate to your phone device, like when you access a USB flash drive (or data disc). remember to safely remove before disconnecting the cable.

that should at least get you going in the right direction.

Unless you're creating a new Google account (not a gmail account, a Google account - they're different, and you'll see the difference when you set up the phone) for the new phone (which you shouldn't yet), just make sure you have app sync enabled on the old phone. When you activate the new phone, be on wifi, because it's going to start syncing all the apps and data from the old phone.

That's all you do to "move" apps from an old phone to a new phone. Basically - nothing.

After it's all synced, you can change the Google account on the old phone, do a factory reset, whatever you like.

The apps go with the Google account, not with the handset. If you bought an app on abc@gmail.com, any phone with abc@gmail.com as its Google account will get those apps.
