Update: ROM update (not Froyo) available now!

confirming update on a rooted (superuser applet installed) phone with only NFS deleted so far. updated 2pm PST.

Well, I'm rooted with bloatware and Bing removed. It downloads the update, reboots to install, then fails on install attempt. Has happened 5 times in a row already. Cannot get the update to install. Does this have to do with the de-Bing and bloatware removal?

UPDATE FAILED or INCOMPLETE. reason:
IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED

I'm with you with the exception of de-Binging. Ended up with the same error code.

I have CWM installed. Removed Bloatware by adding .OLD. Rooted. I removed all .OLD labels, and update still failed. Has to be related to the CWM.

I get a force close error in com.android.settings when I try to check for updates. At least it says it's sorry.:p

I'm rooted, removed lagfix, debinged, and removed a bunch of bloatware. When I get home I'll try replacing com.android.settings with the one from the system dump and see if that changes any thing.

I'm not terribly worried about getting the update. It doesn't fix any thing I'm having a problem with. And I'll probably have a new Rom soon, so I really won't care about this update.

Can you easily refuse the OTA? None of the changes are that enticing to me and I'd rather sit this one out for a week while better men than me figure out the details.

Rooted and just installed the update (on the first try) with no drama. Had to re-root, but otherwise all is well.

Did you check out the PDF? I don't see how you'd want to pass on this for any reason. There are some pretty serious bugfixes and improvements.

Got Update, but lost my root

I just got the update, but I lost my root, so I was wondering what I need to reroot my phone. Do I have to follow Dirrk's method to remove the root...

adb shell
su (its going to ask you for permission on your phone so hit allow)
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm /system/xbin/busybox
rm /system/xbin/su
exit

if so, do i just enter the above info into cmd, or is there a directory i have to get into first?

If i don't have to "remove the root" do I just redo the one click method again?

I'm rooted with all the bloatware put back. I've tried twice and still get the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED message at the very end of the update.

seems that having or not having bloatware on the phone doesn't matter. Not to concerned about this update, but hate that it's getting an error.

I'll cheerfully grant you that I don't know WTF I'm talking about, but yes I saw it and none of it seemed revolutionary to me.

In any case I'm more concerned with delaying it than never installing it. I'd be upset if it led to unnecessary problems when I don't really need those fixes urgently. And I figure the smart folks on here will simplify the process for IT peons like me within a few days.

Got the update installed just fine, phone is non-rooted. Seems as though my phone is running a little bit smoother now.

kernel is now 2.6.29

what is bloatware!

Any non essential app that you can't uninstall. Some examples are listed here.

One side note on installing the update on a rooted phone. I renamed several bloatware APK's prior to the update. Since the phone is no longer rooted post update, I cannot put them back, even if I wanted to, because Root Explorer can't get to them.

I get the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED message at the very end of the update. I get to updating modem and it hangs for a long time. I took out my memory card and did a factory reset and still getting the same message......I also called verizon to let them know there are problems out here with some of us installing the update. If anyone is having this problem they need to let verizon know...Well as I was typing this it just finished and got the failed message..;-/

I checked for updates and it said it found it, then when i clicked ok it said served unavailable. now if i hit check for updates it says no update available, but if i hit info it says server unavailable

UPDATE

Turned wifi off then about two minutes later update appeared again and is going now

I got my root back...
I followed these steps originally posted by Dirk.

adb shell
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 0755 rage.bin
./rage.bin

wait....
when it brings you back to your original shell in windows then follow these commands

adb shell (you should see # this time instead of $ this is exactly what we want)

mount -t rfs -o remount,rw /dev/block/stl9 /system

cd /system/xbin
cat /sdcard/su > su
cat /sdcard/busybox > busybox
chmod 4755 su
chmod 4755 busybox

exit

Took 2 times but it worked.
