Update: ROM update (not Froyo) available now!

Any non essential app that you can't uninstall. Some examples are listed here.

One side note on installing the update on a rooted phone. I renamed several bloatware APK's prior to the update. Since the phone is no longer rooted post update, I cannot put them back, even if I wanted to, because Root Explorer can't get to them.

I actually didn't rename the bloatware back to their native format before the update. Went through with no problems despite the .old appended to all the bloat files.

Updated stock phone fine here. No big difference that I can tell yet. I stopped using the stock mail app and it may take a bit of time to see if the poor 3G performance is addressed by the "faster switching between 1x and 3G" fix.

You gotta love the VZW marketing-speak on the update screens: "Software updates automatically and the mobile will power off and on as a part of this special offering."

Ahem, it's a bug fix, not a "special offering"!'

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next special offering...

well this sucks... had pretty good luck with the fiancees fascinate till now... performed the update, seemed to download and install just fine... rebooted the phone automatically, came back up... then it said it needed to install again and reboot and now every time it boots up, it sits till just about the time you can start using it and then restarts to the manual boot screen. I tried "wipe cache partition" but that didn't fix anything.

I'm reluctant to do "wipe data/factory reset" but I guess that's my only option at this point. Very ghey.

Any other ideas before I do that? the phone was rooted and lag-fixed, btw.

Hmm, for those having (or had) the constant update spam. When you killed the update in your task manager, have any of you restarted your phones since? If so, are you getting the update spam again? I restarted my phone to reroot and it popped up again...pretty stupid if its going to keep popping up when ever I restart (not that I restart a lot).

EDIT: Well I couldn't figure out how to stop it and accept that I am updated, so I rejected it. Hope that shuts it up

weird so if I remove the sd card the phone boots up just fine... it did prompt me to ok or cancel on the update again... I cancelled it and everything looks good. I'm in the phone now. I put the sd card back in and it mounts correctly.

restarted the phone with the sdcard mounted and everything is acting normal...

firmware version is 2.1-update1
baseband version is S:i500.04 V.DI01
Kernel version is 2.6.29
Build number is SCH-I500.DI01

Does that all look right?

Yup

I'm assuming then you just pick up as if you had already run the push commands to get the apps onto the SD card? And I'm assuming the process is the same for a mac too...

You can re-root by downloading the SU app from ROM manager and installing it via CWM if you have it flashed. I just did it and it worked fine, either way, make a back up first just in case.

Same here. What I mean is now that I've lost root, I no longer have control over those files. That said, from what I'm reading above it looks like I can re root .

After the update it seems as though my signal is much better. I am rock solid at 3-4 bars just about everywhere I go. This is about the same or better as my D1. Internet 3g speeds are much better. Good job Verizon!

Hey Brandon - I think I'm in the same boat as you. Followed your CWM instructions using Odin, and I think that's what's preventing me from receiving the update. Since you're more savvy at this stuff, I'll wait for a clue from you :)

Has anyone found a solution for the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE failure that is occurring on some of these handsets? I tried it again this morning and got the same thing...

Cory - I'm rooted with the lagfix and bloatware removed. Just to confirm, all I would need to do is restore bloatware to /system/apps yes? Then re-root to ensure Root Explorer and other root-level apps are working. I'm just worried that I'll have to go through and re-install everything that requires Root (WiFi Tether, Root Explorer, ShootMe, etc...). Do you know if we have to re-apply the LagFix?

Thanks in advance...

Yeah, sorry for the confusion. I re-read that later and realized I misunderstood your post.

Yes, I was able to re-root afterwords using the same initial procedure featured in Dirrk's post.

I downloaded the update and it looks as if it went through but now that i'm trying to re-root using dirrks one click root (which i originally used) it is not detecting my phone. i already pulled the battery out and rebooted several times but it still wont detect my phone and my phone keeps saying "media sync connection failed"...any help or suggestons please

Also, when i try to do the adb shell commands in exe it says "adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file"
Thanks in advance for any help for this noob

Install wouldn't go through, and broke root. When it popped up, I deferred it for a day.

Did the unlagfix, as well as removed Superuser.apk, busybox, and su.

After that update worked fine.

Haven't re-rooted yet, going to learn a bit more, and figure out a solid back-up plan first.

I'm also having the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED error and I have not rooted my phone. I will be keeping an eye on this thread to see if anyone comes with a solution. Thanks!

This is really bugging me. After the update my pc is not recognizing my phone at all. It will still charge my phone but thats it. I rebooted my phone several times and also rebooted my pc but nada. Also unmounted and remounted my sd card but that didnt help either. I'm at a loss as to what to try next.

And when i check the status of my update it says "package downloaded, update rejected
code:401"
and when i check for updates it says "no new software update available"

I hate being a noob with the android system. If it was a bb issue i'd know exactly what to do...lol
I guess i'll call vzw and see what they say.
