Update: ROM update (not Froyo) available now!

I'm rooted with the lagfix from Dirrk and have not removed or moved any bloatware, but my update will not go through. It downloads and then in the install process where it says updating modem...it just hangs until it restarts the phone. When I go to check the status of the update nothing has happened.

Anyone with the same situation that has got the update to work?

Moving data around

This is probably a stupid question but, how do I move "verizon bloatware" on and off the phone, SD card?

Does anyone have a update.zip for this so I don't have to re-root?

So in the past I have updated my friends HTC incredible and

IF (and this is a big IF)

I remember correctly, if someone has this update and can put it in an update.zip we could run this update from the sd-card via a hard reset and not have to re-root.

1)Does anyone have this update in an update.zip for this so I don't have to re-root?

Also I remember someone saying that if they installed Lookout mobile security it wouldn't let them root.

2)Does the same apply to if i am using Smartguard?

The last question I have is I am Rooted - and the only things I have done is install wireless tether and ad-blocker.

3)Should I un-root first to do update to be safe? Or do you think I will be OK if I try the OTA update and re-root after without un-rooting first? Anyone else in my boat?

Sorry I am a Android Newb, but once I learn I will be off to the races.....Versed in BB hacking but not android just yet.....

Thanks,
Drootz

I installed it on a rooted phone w/ tether installed. Rerooted and verified via titanium backup which needs root access. I had only nuked NFS demo, though. Total turnaround was like 5 minutes. All seems well so far, and better overall, I think.

I'm not rooted or anything, but I tried to update and I got the same problem..maybe it was just too early?

I read in another post by someone who said they rebooted phone and then ran the update again and said they got it to work...I tried that too, but no luck.

Maybe it'll do it by itself...?

Does this update happen to extend the backlight timer on the capacitive buttons?
I didn't see it in the release notes, but Verizon has a tendency to leave things out.

The modem hangup is happening to a lot of Fascinates. I have tried several times to do the update and it fails everytime. I even did the factory reset and the same failure happen. I called Verizon yesterday and she had no idea how to fix it. The more people who call, the sooner they will fix this. I do not want any problems like this to keep from installing 2.2 when it hits. So call verizon....

Called Verizon to ask about the update.

Me- Verizon web site show do it yourself or wait unitl they send it. I want to do it myself ...
V - Let me talk to a level 2 support person ... sorry, you will have to wait until they send it to your phone.

Sounds like if you are in the Q to get it you can do it yourself, if not you will have to wait until they send it. At least that is the excuse that I got.

You can use ADB or Root Explorer to accomplish this. Root Explorer is the "easiest" if you're unsure of how to navigate around the file system with ADB shell... In any case, you'll need to be rooted and ensure that you move the correct .apk files relative to the apps you want to "uninstall." Here's a few that you can successfully pull back without issue:

Final_Schi500_3.0.3.3_07262010.apk (MobileIM)
thinkdroid.apk (ThinkFree Office)
WriteandGo.apk (Write & Go)
Bluckbuster_Stub_v0_2_build_12-unsigned-signed.apk (BlockBuster)

Cory's got another thread on the topic that you can follow as well...

Good luck.

i had the same problem. take the sd card out and update it.
it goes through the update fine. i will check if the tethering and rooted software works, now..

update: tethering would not work after the update. probably need to re-root.

I decided to install the ROM update from Verizon (I had the Lag fix and was rooted prior to install). Gotta say, I don't think it's my imagination but things are "snappier" (noticeably) after the installation. Anybody notice similar?

I've been reading that you aren't rooted anymore after installing this. How do you tell? Because, I am still able to go into my system folder and rename or delete bloatware.

Still have not received a notification on my phone about this update.

Manual updates fail with the same PREVIOUS_IP_UPDATE or whatever failure.

This sucks.

Ran update, now Bing is Back!

Not rooted here. Update ran just fine. Some improvement in speed (subjective). Annoying signal loss tone is gone. but two things.
1. NoLed no longer works.
2. BING IS BACK!!

Before the update I had installed the LauncherPro Plus--Dolphin HD browser combination and had google as my default search. After the update, this no longer works. When I press search or put something into the google search widget instead of going to google.com it goes to a vzw site and uses Bing again. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both LP and Dolphin to no avail.
Anyway to roll back the update? I'd trade the way I had google instead of bing working for all the "improvements" the update made.

I just re-rooted as I was getting some errors in some apps via Superuser.apk. Now, Innopath is saying there are No New Updates Available for my phone, but in the about area, it's not updated. What the hell is the deal?

Time for a factory reset?

I tried updating on my phone which is rooted with a few bloatware programs gone and updating on my wife's phone that's still at factory settings. Same result all 4 times. I think given that this update appears to reset some settings to a factory style and how froyo is supposedly on the way it would be a bit more time efficient for me to just not customize my phone until froyo is finally released :-/
