Re: Watch release cancelled

I'm not buying the recall due to the device not being sim locked. Both verizon and ATT sell several devices already sim unlocked. I believe it's a much more serious underlying issue. Although I love the watch so far but with so much uncertainty and possible lack of support in the future with it I'll be returning mine this weekend.

Re: Watch release cancelled

I don't know for sure but what he said makes alot of sense since Verizon would be mad if they can't keep screwing their customers over.

It is not up for debate. AT&T and T-Mobile is GSM carrier while Verizon and Sprint is CDMA carrier. With CDMA carriers, you can't use devices that is not branded or approved by the carrier. Until VoLTE is widely implemented (it is not), any device for Verizon still need CDMA hardware for voice and text.

The unlock theory doesn't hold any water because it can be easily fixed via software (or just lock them for the stocks that are not sold yet). It doesn't warrant an entire recall which is extremely expensive for LG.

Well how many phones do they sell that are the same phone and one cost $200 more then the other? Most of their phones are similar priced. There is a huge difference in the price for the urbane 2. As far as I'm aware it seems Verizon wants to gouge their customers for as much as they can. You may not realize it but a $200 difference is huge for them.

What can be locked via software can also be unlocked via software.

Oh yeah read this.

Additionally, when Verizon purchased its 700 MHz spectrum for LTE service in 2008 it agreed to "open access" rules and to activate non-Verizon devices on its network. However, in practice, that did not amount to much since not many non-Verizon devices were made with radios that supported Verizon's band class in the 700 MHz band and other Verizon spectrum bands. Recently, that has started to change with more advanced smartphones and RF technology.

Re: Watch release cancelled

It really is unprecedented to have an item released and then taken off shelves and canceled.

I remember very few times with some phones that about it.

I dont think we will see this watch re-released again. I am betting on LG scrapping it and going right to version 3 sometime
next year. And I bet version 3 will have an E-sim.

Yes $200 is a big difference in price but sim locking is a easy fix for LG to correct. Even if the current batch wasn't able to be locked they could just halt sells and shipment until batch 2 with locked sim an outright cancellation is signs of something deeper but hey I could be wrong. I'll be mad I spent $300 on mine andb6 months from now I can't get the latest updates all because I kept it.

That's the whole point, to recall them so they can be hardware locked and not software lock. Software lock can be unlock with software by hackers. Hardware lock means they'll have to rip the watch apart. If Verizon had nothing to do with this LG would of stated the reason. There is a huge reason why LG is so quiet about this besides the "hardware issue" comment.

Re: Watch release cancelled

What can be locked via software can also be unlocked via software.

A SIM locked phone can be unlocked via a unlock code. No hardware needed. I do this for every single device I purchased from AT&T.

Oh yeah read this.

Verizon to activate unlocked, non-Verizon iPhones and Nexus 6 phones - FierceWireless

Notice it only says iPhone 6 and new Nexus phones. Those are actually carrier approved and Verizon have all the ESNs (required for any CDMA phone) in database already and those phones already have CDMA hardware inside. Verizon is not a GSM carrier. So you can't bring any GSM phones to its network.

All phones are software locked. There is actually a FCC requirement that mandates all carrier to offer unlock codes after meets some basic requirements. So, it can't be hardware locked.

This in conjunction with the fact that if I have any hardware warranty related issues between now and the next model, or the janky flimsy charger gets damaged or needs to be replaced LG can deny me support because a recall was issued that I willingly ignored. Yet since I already gave away my G Watch R Im forced to hold on to the Urbane until I hear directly from At&t or LG. Kind of weird that only those with review units have been reached out to. I know that if LG does recall my watch this will really taint my view about doing business with them in the near future. It would be a major inconvenience going to purchase a new smartwatch when I already had one that I was fine with.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Theres one on there now starting bid $700, BIN for $1200. A dreamer who cant spell btw if you read the listing, looks like a 3rd grader wrote it.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Well regardless of possible reasons, I'll be keeping mine. Yeah its only been a few days with the watch, but it has been a few days of heavy usage bliss. This is the first smart watch, that I have ever used, that does everything well, (well at least the things that are important for me to have in a smartwatch). So a later patch not coming for my device, (can't speak for others owners), won't be so bad for me, since everything I want to work....works great already, and if I return it, what other option is out there? All the other watches I tried don't work as good as this one for the things I want to work.....and this one has the best battery life to boot. Besides, I don't know why everyone thinks a software update won't come. Google controls android wear, an I don't think their going to not update their software.

If they scrap this one and release a new one a year from now, I'll check out that option when that bridge is crossed, but in the mean time, i'm keeping this bad boy.

Oh and if anyone has every used watchmaker before (lets you design your own watch faces), It appears to be working great for me. Just a heads up.

From reading some new articles that just came out it seems the watch is canceled "indefinitely"

Re: Watch release cancelled

I cannot believe I'm reading this. This is the first smartwatch I've really truly wanted to keep. And now, there's a recall on them??? This thing is fantastic - it does almost everything super well. Never have battery issues, it has a beautiful screen, it has a nice ambient mode, it makes and takes PHONE CALLS without my cell phone. It has GPS.

It's fantastic! Please don't take it away from me!

Re: Watch release cancelled

I'm right there with ya! This is the watch I have been searching for! Between my wife and I we've had 6 smartwatches, several Android Wear, a Tizen and Apple OS, and LG is the best out of all of them. Even without the LTE it's an awesome watch! I really hope this is just a stupid pissing match between the service providers and nothing is really wrong with the watch. I haven't had a single hiccup or anything weird with mine so far, and it's been a week of heavy use.
