Fitzaustex, I know this is off topic but didn't you get the Samsung Gear S2 as well?
I don't know for sure but what he said makes alot of sense since Verizon would be mad if they can't keep screwing their customers over.
I'm not buying the recall due to the device not being sim locked. Both verizon and ATT sell several devices already sim unlocked. I believe it's a much more serious underlying issue. Although I love the watch so far but with so much uncertainty and possible lack of support in the future with it I'll be returning mine this weekend.

It is not up for debate. AT&T and T-Mobile is GSM carrier while Verizon and Sprint is CDMA carrier. With CDMA carriers, you can't use devices that is not branded or approved by the carrier. Until VoLTE is widely implemented (it is not), any device for Verizon still need CDMA hardware for voice and text.
The unlock theory doesn't hold any water because it can be easily fixed via software (or just lock them for the stocks that are not sold yet). It doesn't warrant an entire recall which is extremely expensive for LG.
Well how many phones do they sell that are the same phone and one cost $200 more then the other? Most of their phones are similar priced. There is a huge difference in the price for the urbane 2. As far as I'm aware it seems Verizon wants to gouge their customers for as much as they can. You may not realize it but a $200 difference is huge for them.
Yes $200 is a big difference in price but sim locking is a easy fix for LG to correct. Even if the current batch wasn't able to be locked they could just halt sells and shipment until batch 2 with locked sim an outright cancellation is signs of something deeper but hey I could be wrong. I'll be mad I spent $300 on mine andb6 months from now I can't get the latest updates all because I kept it.

What can be locked via software can also be unlocked via software.
Oh yeah read this.
Verizon to activate unlocked, non-Verizon iPhones and Nexus 6 phones - FierceWireless
Additionally, when Verizon purchased its 700 MHz spectrum for LTE service in 2008 it agreed to "open access" rules and to activate non-Verizon devices on its network. However, in practice, that did not amount to much since not many non-Verizon devices were made with radios that supported Verizon's band class in the 700 MHz band and other Verizon spectrum bands. Recently, that has started to change with more advanced
smartphones and RF technology.
That's the whole point, to recall them so they can be hardware locked and not software lock. Software lock can be unlock with software by hackers. Hardware lock means they'll have to rip the watch apart. If Verizon had nothing to do with this LG would of stated the reason. There is a huge reason why LG is so quiet about this besides the "hardware issue" comment.
