Urbane 2nd Edition LTE watch CANCELLED!

Re: Watch release cancelled

it's already months ahead of any other android wear watch so who cares about updates. I had the moto for a year and only had ONE useful update. If i get a year out of this LG i'm fine with that..
The thing is with this watch, it's the first Android Wear watch with LTE so bugs need to be worked out with updates.

Absolutely. I expect LG re-release this watch early January coincide with new AW updates and NumberSync.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Wow, I love the looks of this watch, but guess I am taking mine back. I think this is the first time I have jumped on something as soon as it was released. Don't like the fact LG wasn't forthcoming on what was wrong with it. I read that they said it wasn't a safety issue, just a "day to day" issue.. What does that mean? Anyway, for those that keep the watch, I hope it gives you a lot of years of good service .

I hope this is the case. If it does I will probably purchase and try to decide which I like more. The Gear s2 or this one. Unfortunately for verizon customers we don't have a choice right now. Never got released....

It would be nice if LG tries to fix the hearts and minds of people and allow either a 1 for 1 swap for the Gear s2 or a significant discount for those who bought one after the cancelation. They should also give a HUGE discount (I'm talking about like 90%) for those who bought through ATT and returned just for the inconvenience.

I know this probably won't happen because they would lose out but I really think they need to do something for those affected. Just my opinion.

Phil knows something, but for some reason he cant tell us lol . My 2 main concerns are, as mentioned a few times, software updates being non-existent and what if the charger breaks lol

Not a problem. I'm sure someone will sell a replacement charger on ebay.........for only $100.

I read online lg gave an update on the problem. They said after thousands of hours of testing there's a problem with a new part that affects image quality. I tried sending the link but the site won't let me add it.

Edit here it is.

Late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to discontinue the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition due to the complicated nature of the issue. Customers who have purchased an LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition will receive a full refund with our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

The hardware issue was related to a new advanced component that we had incorporated in the device that had never been used in an LG wearable device before. During aggressive testing over thousands of hours under severe conditions, it was revealed that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device. We would like to make very clear that the issue in question has no bearing whatsoever on the safety of the device or the wearer. It is, simply, an issue that might affect the user experience of the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition over the long term.

Re: Watch release cancelled

ATT is offering $100 bill credit for inconvenience when you return the device.

The only thing that affects 'image quality' is the screen from what I can think of. If this is true, the screen will probably deteriorate faster than LG expects.

The translation is either wrong or I'm reading it wrong. They stated that it failed to live up to "their" quality standard, this means LG. Then they proceed to say "our image" as in LG's image not the watch's image.

I'm still calling BS on this "recall" as LG and maybe even Phil[he might know, he might not] on here have fail to mention what the true reason is. When you don't state the real reason, you are hiding something very big. Very big as in it could damage LG's image therefore they are keeping us in the dark. Anybody else besides Apple[we know they love to deny things] would of came out and said this and this is the problem and that's why we're recalling it.

Yeah that article is misleading. They meant the image of LG company. I've been googling everyday on this topic and have yet to see any explanation.

These watches are going for like 800 on eBay now. I picked mine up for 240 on eBay the day before the announcement. I got lucky on that one.

Is this in effect now? How do you get a credit for returning something that hasnt been officially recalled yet? Ive called At&t everyday since this announcement and the CSR's keep telling me that they know of no recall on this device. I'm told they were pulled from online because they have no more stock, but I should check the stores. What's really going on here?

Re: Watch release cancelled

I'm keeping mine. I hope LG would allows us to keep it and just let us swap it out with the re-released version.

Re: Watch release cancelled

I recently got off the phone with another CSR. He knows about the cancellation, but he stated there is no recall. He said that you can take back your watch to the place where you got it from to get a full refund. I wanted to know what the reason was and while he was looking it up I asked him another question.

I wanted know about the people that are gonna keep it and what's gonna happen to them. He said we'll still have our warranty but the any future update is up to AT&T since that's where I got my watch from. I asked if he meant google or LG and he said no it's AT&T because it's their watch and LG can only repair them. He didn't say anything about google.

As he proceeds to tell me what the issue was, I disconnected.... So far all he told me was what I've read and then as he got past that, I get the disconnect click sound... sigh

Well take it for what you guys want to see. There are those that accepted LG's poor excuse as the truth and return theirs, and others like me that think LG is lying about something and are willing to risk not having a supported watch.

I'm starting to think LG rushed the watch out without doing much research on it. This is why LG refuse to state the reason as they're trying to save face. Either way we still have our warranty because they just cancel the rest of the release and it's not a official recall.

I'm not sure what google is gonna do since LG has pulled out the watch. Yes google will keep making updates for the other android wear watches but who's gonna push the updates to us? LG and AT&T have abandon ship and refuse to state why they jumped off leaving the few of us that are still hanging on to decide if we want to jump ship ship or not.

Re: Watch release cancelled

If that employee was speaking the truth, wouldn't that be the case with Nexus devices? I don't think he was speaking the truth. I don't see any AT&T splash screen when powering it on like on their Android phones. I don't think the carriers touch the Android Wear OS except maybe for the LTE connectivity, but that's it. I think updates are still controlled by Google which is why he never denied Google in your conversation. From what I've read around here, it's not locked to any carrier which leads me to believe AT&T never had any control of the OS and it's updates.

Re: Watch release cancelled

The watch carries AT&T specific model number W200A. So indeed it is an AT&T branded watch. All future updates will have to come from AT&T or blessed by AT&T. No one can bypass AT&T to release updates.

If anyone got the $100 credit from AT&T for returning the watch, please post here to let us know. So far, I have heard nothing from AT&T about recall at all.

It's completely a courtesy thing. If you return it you receive your bill credit within 1-2 billing cycles for inconvenience you get a full refund and the normal $35 restock fee is waived. I went ahead and returned mine during my shift yesterday. Just go in your local office and ask the RSC about it. It's in our CSP. To me it was just a watch I liked it and all but I honestly didn't need the LTE connectivity it was just cool to say I have it but I maybe used the LTE functionality once since launch day and with the official cancellation and EVERYBODY trying to get it out of our hands regardless of the lack of communication from LG this tells me that it's a pretty serious issue and I wasn't waiting past the 14 day return period for it to crash out on me and I'm stuck with a $300 paperweight because I thought it was gonna be OK.
