Urbane 2nd Edition LTE watch CANCELLED!

Re: Watch release cancelled

Not necessarily. With the antenna built into the band, there's a definite wear point for that component that has not been used by them before.

Re: Watch release cancelled

I doubt they will re-release version 2 as they probably already have version 3 in the works.

I also doubt they will ever support version 2. With so little of them on the street from a business point it doesnt pay for them to waste time supporting it.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Just saw this article, sounds like the display speculation may be right on... LG says faulty screen component behind smartwatch recall - Telegraph

Although I have a Gear S2 3G and like it, I'd love to pick up an Urbane LTE also.

That article is misleading. LG's statement Quote " that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device."

Context matters. They misread "Our Image". Now if LG put it as "The Image" then that would put the screen as the component, but as it stands its just hearsay.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Yup same messaging is spreading on other news outlets today. Everyone is taking the same spin on "image quality" to refer to the screen, yet when you read the actual LG quote, its very debatable on what image quality are they talking about.

Re: Watch release cancelled

There will not be any official clarification as to exactly which component failed. LG made it very clear already. So, anything follows are pure speculations.

This Friday marks end of the 14-day return period for many early adopters. It seems neither LG, nor AT&T, is interested to issue any type of official recall to those who already bought the watch. So, as it sits now, it is cancelled but not yet recalled. If my watch fails within a year, I'm expecting LG to fully support it for warranty replacement (probably send me the ones that shipped back from AT&T).

Sounds fair to me.

Not related, but I guess we won't see Number Sync from LG as originally expected in late December or early January. Seems like Samsung's Gear S2 will be the first.

Re: Watch release cancelled

I hope a 3rd edition comes out early next year. This device was everything I wanted.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Just hope the 3rd edition doesn't come with an inferior, but long life, screen :)

The higher density screen on 2nd edition makes analog watch face look really nice.

Re: Watch release cancelled

I emailed LG and got this in return, looks like I may be returning mine. I got til Sunday. It seems the CSR at LG are clueless as to what's going on. I don't blame them, I blame LG for keeping them int he dark as well. If you decide to keep it, you're keeping it at your own risk.

Thank you for contacting LG Electronics.

Late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to discontinue the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition due to the complicated nature of the issue. Customers who have purchased an LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition will receive a full refund with our apologies for the inconvenience caused. You may go to a store or contact their hotline to return or alternatively exchange for another smart watch.

The hardware issue was related to a new advanced component that we had incorporated in the device that had never been used in an LG wearable device before. During aggressive testing over thousands of hours under severe conditions, it was revealed that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device. We would like to make very clear that the issue in question has no bearing whatsoever on the safety of the device or the wearer. It is, simply, an issue that might affect the user experience of the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition over the long term.

As of this time, we have not received any confirmation whether the device will be available in the future. This will be decided at a later time upon full re-assessment of the device. As such, I’m afraid we could not guarantee warranty service repair especially if in case the part required will be unavailable. In this regard, we have received recommendation from the management to offer contact with the carrier for return or exchange of the unit.

I am so sorry if this has caused disappointment in any way and I truly wish I had a more favorable answer for you. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding on this.

I hope this information has been helpful in addressing your concern. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us again via Email, Live Chat, or Phone by calling 800-793-8896.

Thank you for choosing LG and have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,
Cassie

I'm very concern about my recent purchase of your LG Urbane 2. I've read many reports that LG has decided to cancel the LG Urbane 2. Since it's not a recall,I've decided I'm gonna keep mine. My main concern is will I still get my warranty if something stops working on it? I'm concern because LG doesn't know if they'll fix what's broken and re-release it or just throw in the towel. If they do throw in the towel, what happens to my warranty?

I've spoken to a LG CSR on this and he claims I'm still going to get my warranty on the watch if I keep mine. I hope he's right as if LG refuses to honor their warranty, I'm not going to be very happy about it. Please reply back with my concerns.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Daddyd302. I assume LG means exchange for an all different smartwatch and not another LG Urbane 2nd Edition LTE watch? I wonder then if many would opt for the Samsung Gear S2 3G.

I haven't received any communication for LG or AT&T about the watch. If LG is not going to honor the warranty without any communication to the customer, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. I'll be waiting to see an official communication from AT&T or LG about this.

I wonder if the above means that, should I contact LG with a warranty issue 3 months from now, they'll get me in touch with ATT for a return? It sounds like this would extend the return window to match the warranty window.

Would you all read this the same way?

Return Window will not change. After 14 days it's all on the manufacturer regardless of what the situation is.

I really think you're better off taking it back within the 14 days. I'm not a AT&T customer so I'm pretty sure they're gonna tell me you're SoL and contact LG if I return it after 14 days. This is a HUGE mess LG got itself into.

My honest opinion on this is you're better off taking back your watch if you want your money back. If you decide to keep it you risk it breaking on you and LG refusing to help because they don't have the parts for it. Sure you can sue them but is it worth it over $300?

I got 6 days to decide what I want to do. I'm still trying to see what the problem is. If it's the antennae not being prefect I can live with it. If it's the display, that might be a different story. I'm leaning towards the antenna because it's different from the one they put on the Urbane LTE which is a world watch not released in the U.S. Well that's my hope anyways lol. I can live without LTE and just 3G.

I'll try again today and keep pressing the CSR's for an answer. Hopefully someone will fold and tell me what is wrong with the watch and not the standard "hardware issue" statement.

I think what they meant by exchange is get whatever AT&T offers like the Gear S2, which I will not trade for. The Gear S2 is inferior and more expensive.

If LG decides not to issue official recall for watches already sold, they are required to keep enough parts (most likely the watches that are shipped back) to honor the warranty. After all, there shouldn't be that many watches still out there. Easily handled.

As for Gear S2, I thought AT&T sold it for the same price as this one. However, I have Gear S and most owners consider Gear S2 a big step backwards, I won't trade my LG watch for Gear S2. I either return the watch and continue to my Gear S while waiting for next AW watch to show up
or keep using this watch taking a small risk. Right now, IMO, there is no smart watch out there match the experience of this LG.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Have you used a gear s2 3g for an extended period of time?

Posted via the Android Central App

I had a chance to play with the non 3G S2 at Best Buy. I just was not impress with it. It felt like a toy, even more toy-ish than my Gear S. The only thing it had over my old Gear S is it's round, so it looks better. The Gear S is a better watch overall, although at times hated it. I grew annoyed with it's blue-tooth. At random times it' just lose blue-tooth and reconnect making me think I have a message or email. Nope just another blue-tooth lose and reconnect!

Now I should of mentioned T-mobile because their version is $360 and not $300 like AT&T's. I only got AT&T's version of the urbane 2 because I never had intention to use 3G on it. When I found out people had sucess using T-Mobile's SIM in it, I tried it and now it seems I'm one of the few that has a working Urbane 2 on T-Mobile.

I don't like Tizen, to me it's a joke of a OS. Samsung is in over their head thinking they can take on Android and Apple with Tizen. It's been over 2 years and still nobody is jumping on the Tizen band wagon like Samsung had hoped for. I don't care for most of the android wear apps as most of them are useless to me, Tizen is even more useless to me.

Re: Watch release cancelled

Yeah, Tizen is a dead end. Samsung will dump it any minute now. Gear S is a nice watch for its time but unfortunately, neither Samsung nor 3rd party devs have any interest developing apps for it. Makes it a dead platform. Samsung's answer to this problem is releasing another one called Gear S2 (with slight change to the Gear Manager to be compatible with non-Samsung phones) and leave original Gear S owner high and dry. Even with a lot of shortcomings and limitations on AW, I have had a far better UX on LG watch than my Gear S. Seamless integration (with the exception of Google Fit) with Google services is a big plus.
