US release date could be July 12th!

Wow, so I just spoke to a friend of mine who works at Game Stop and she said they already have a shipment in the store, but no release date as of yet. I got my pre-order from Google on June 29th and still waiting (in Texas). I told her to please txt me as soon as she is notified of a release date. She also mentioned that her supervisor had taken one out of the box and was showing to the staff.

Haha, I "heard" its nice outside the box. ;)

Someone over at xdadveloper made this:

I do think the canceled orders can be a valid delay. I really don't think the guy was trying to lie to me as he was way more informative than the other csr. He said that they should start shipping out and be ready by mid next week which is what the other guy told me. He said the only hold up was their understaffed returns department.

Imagine the logistics. You have 500,000 shipments sitting in various UPS warehouses all over the US, and 10,000 got canceled. You have to find all of those and account for them so that people aren't getting shipped tablets they didn't pay for, or whatever the case may be.

You try to find 10,000 tablets in a day from the correct warehouses. (This is all just speculation though). I'm an engineer, we like to play with numbers.

I don't think anything even remotely in the field of 10,000 orders got cancelled though. There are a few vocal people freaking out, but I don't think very many people are really cancelling their orders over it.

A CSR that likes to talk doesn't necessarily mean he's informative.

Well just my opinion anyway. :)

You can also refuse the package and get refunded....

I forgot to mention the guy said they stopped accepting those cancellations. That way their "understaffed" department doesn't have to worry about it until after they all ship, therefore getting them out sooner.

You're probably right :D

Even if it was like 1,000 cancellations, that could still delays something by a day or so. Imagine how many man-hours it might take to cancel that many orders. I'm sure there's a lot going on behind the scenes. You never know how many returns guys Google has either, they probably aren't used to huge launches made by themselves.

Imagine how many people wouldn't have canceled if Google had shipped the packages when they were ready instead of letting them pile up in the Indiana Jones style warehouse. :D

I've been eagerly following this thread for days now and finally made an account.

First off, here are two tracking numbers I've seen of people claiming to have received a shipment email:

UPS: Tracking Information
UPS: Tracking Information

If I recall correctly, both numbers were in screenshots of emails. They may very well be fake(as in, the packages aren't Nexus 7s); one shipment lists the weight as 1.7 pounds, another as 3.3 pounds. Such a drastic difference in weight makes me suspicious, but on the other hand the weight on the second package is almost exactly twice the weight of the other, so perhaps the person ordered two.

Second, if the tracking numbers are real, they both say the package will arrive by end of business on Monday, so I wouldn't expect any Nexus 7 goodness before then.

Third, I've seen a lot of people talk about UPS My Choice on this thread. You will NOT GET advance notification of your package before the shipping email without paying extra for the premium upgrade (something like $40, I believe). If you sign up for the free My Choice, you still need to wait until you have a tracking number from Google's email. So never mind that. (I believe I am right about this, so correct me if you know that I am wrong.)

EDIT: By the way, to give you an idea of how obsessively fanboyish I've become for a tech toy for the first time, I made a mock-up of a Nexus 7 in Adobe Illustrator (matching the zoom level to a ruler to make it real-size) so I could get an idea of exactly how large the screen would be and how the tablet would fit in my hands. I need this freaking thing to arrive yesterday.

Alright, I'm officially sharing my unhealthiness with you guys.

Here is a .png and Illustrator-editable PDF of the mock-up I mentioned in my last post. The Nexus 7 is correctly sized relative to the image (sorry, transparent background) which is a standard 8.5 x 11 sized paper. On my 23" Acer monitor, 133% zoom in Adobe Illustrator makes the size match up perfectly.

The device dimensions I got from searching Google. I got the screen dimensions by plugging x^2 + (1.6*x)^2 = 7^2 into WolframAlpha, 7 being the diagonal length of the screen and 1.6 being the ratio of height to width (based on 1280 x 800 resolution).

Enjoy. This is what days of reading these damn forums have done to me. Haven't done a lick of work since Wednesday morning. I hate you all with a feral passion rivaled only by my desire to hold the Nexus 7 in my hands.

Now thats somebody who wants his Nexus 7! These forums have made me crazy as well... But it makes me more crazy that after all this, I just got an email from google play that my order has been cancelled... (When I ordered I didn't even think to change my shipping address to my physical address, not my Po Box). Now that my order is cancelled, any recommendations? Should I preorder it from a certain retailer? Wait until retailers are allowed to sell? Not sure what to do.

Well, with all the talk of ups my choice yesterday I obv signed up. Just got email notification of shipment. The email said scheduled for delivery tomorrow well.. Today - Friday.. But ups website says Monday. But I just now checked my credit card and the charge hasn't hit. We are almost there!

Edit - here is a screen grab of the email on my touchpad. http://db.tt/h4wYFR45
