Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Updates should come from the people who make the OS, not from the carriers. That was one thing Apple got right. If the manufacturers want to make a skin for it, that's fine. If the carriers want to give free apps away for it, that's good too. But they should be offered to the subscriber after the OS is updated, not put on before and released with an OS update. That's just not working out very well.
+1000x After reading so many Android devices owners' upgrade(or never being able to upgrade) OS horror stories I'm convinced pure Android Nexus handsets are the only way to go with this OS. ;)

at least until the google buyout of motorola goes through, then blur should be dead and moto might actually be able to update their devices in a timely fashion instead of just "not as slow as they could be"

Unfortunately, as long as you buy a phone from a particular carrier, you'll never see updates come directly to your device. After the update is released, the carriers have to add their own bloat to it. A Nexus device is the only way to avoid this. What would be cool is if Google would sell phones directly (GSM and CDMA models). Then you could just bring it to your carrier and have it activated.

They tried that, and it failed miserably.but I do dream of the day where we can take any device we want to any network without being attached to a network.

Since Google put up 12.5 Bil for MotoMo they'll build their own (thanks fer yer help Sansung) and should license from Big Red and take care of the LTE side, also. Don't see any other 4G network in place anytime soon.

BTW, Moto shareholders vote on Nov 17th, a kinda ironic date, huh? :)

What do you mean you don't see any other 4g on place anytime soon. Have you seen Sprints plans for next year? They're already getting LTE rolled out in Chicago. Isn't AT&T rolling out already as well?

Guess that by 'in place' I was trying to refer to how extensive Big Red is compared to others at present.

Heck, I'n nearly 70...not a lot of time for the others to do me much good!! :D

Gotcha. I know Sprint is supposed to be moving fast this year with LTE, and by the end of 2013 have the nation pretty much covered. I'm sure you have plenty of time left to enjoy it

Makes you wonder what 5G has in store for us on Verizon around 2013-14

Edit: Seems i might have jumped the gun here lol. It always seems like things are moving so fast around here. Didn't realize how long in development these things are, lol

Its fun reading thrrough this whole forum about rabid folks waiting on a device that won't be here for at least a couple of weeks.
Saw this happen for the TB and experienced it with the Charge. Vzw even officially announced the charge on a Thursday in May (forget which Thur) then it got delayed for a couple of weeks for some lame excuse about 4g activation issues. So even an official launch date can mean nothing.
I love all the wild speculation and statements that seem to come Verizons CEO himself.
Gotta admit its entertaining.

Lol, yeah we won't be seeing that for a long time. LTE advanced is next. Sprint is supposed to be rolling that out right on the heels of LTE, and I'm sure Verizon is right there too. Sprint realizes it stayed with Wimax too long and they're making a big push.

I believe Verizon's goal is to cover their entire footprint in lte in 2013, then offload cdma and reallocate that spectrum to lte advanced to get "true" 4g

Someone I work with is an Apple fan-person (literally, everything he owns is apple tech...). Since people seem to now ask me which way to go (not an android fanboy, just know a lot about mobile, etc) he wanted to be an ass and asked what he should get.

Showed him 2 videos - the Hong Kong ICS video, and the review Cory posted.

Theres another G-Nex sold. Screen / ICS made the sale so easy haha.

So I have a question for you guys:

I want to get this phone day one, but I don't know which route to take. I wanted to get it off the website, but I have no idea if it'll get here the same day. I would get it from in store, but aren't there fees like the activation fees and such?

Also, I'm a little OCD and much rather set up and open the phone myself, which wouldn't happen in store. Haha.

I'm right with you and am curious as to which is the best route to take.

Im going best buy. They'll help if you ask but if you tell them, they will let you do it yourself.

Pre-order is in-store or online, either way.

Plus, the Black Tie warranty is awesome. Heard so many good things.

Price is gonna be pretty comparable across the line, too.

Off topic but.. these dumb Droid commercials are long past being cool. The [yt]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgzPBmCGC94[/yt] for the Razr is another pointless commercial that doesn't promote anything about the phone.

Why can't Verizon just let Motorola promote the phone?

Because most consumers are stupid.

I think were being bias. If the Nexus was called the Droid Prime and they marketed it with the Droid brand, we would all love the commercials and get excited lol
