Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Plus its not like Google is saying "Ok Europe, you get it first". Google is likely waiting on Verizon to get its act together and having to wait for its window between the Bionic Slim... err I mean Razr and the rezound.

Yeah, I know it's not Google's fault. The whole reason I left Verizon to begin with was only because they never had the phones I wanted. I miss their cell phone service and data speeds. This is why I want this phone sooooo bad. And my iPhone 4 has been broken for almost a year now....

You have to blame it all on the way mobile phone industry in the US work. The rest of the world is mostly GSM-based therefore there's freedom when it comes to choosing your own device independently from the carriers. US carriers can blur their cost and charge Americans more by putting devices into the equation.

But on the bright side, Americans get commercial LTE before the rest of the world excluding some Scandinavian countries.

And Scandinavian countries still don't have a single LTE phone, only modems.

They are a global company that's headquartered in America.

Thats not the point he is making.... Thats part of the problem with America these days. Google started in America. The CEO of Google is American and "Android" started in America. Steve Jobs didn't release the iPhone else where before the US..... But whos to say Europe gets it first. They just announced it before Verizon did. I still say the 10th!

Its all semantics isn't it. I bet money it goes on pre-order on the 10th and goes live on the 17th. Since Europe is east of the US they will launch it the same day but before the US does, because we will still be sleeping...

This is going to be an odd question. November 17 is right around the time I am scheduled to rotate home and could potentially go through Europe on the way home.

I remember seeing in European duty free shops a bunch of high end android phones and wonder what the likelihood is of being able to pick up a galaxy nexus GSM variant on the way home.

Also are the gsm variants actually identical to the LTE Verizon version (that is do they have the LTE radio in them but it's just not talked about) or is the Verizon version going to be completely different at the chipset level?

Or if you are too tired of waiting, a few websites are going to ship the global version (no LTE) on Nov 7. Handtec from the UK is one of them.

Nobody has seen or held the Verizon version of this phone. I've held off on saying it, but now predict it. The other USA carriers who are getting this phone will have it before Verizon.
I'd love to be wrong, but wouldn't be opening my yap if I thought I was.

Seriously? I'm not trying to single you out Monkey Pi, but your thinking is the reason I'm losing faith in Android fans. The speculation needs to stop! If you're feeling uncertain on a phone, there's no need to spread it around!

We saw a picture of Romain Guy's (Android Software Engineer) Galaxy Nexus with a Verizon 4G LTE logo here:
http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/verizon-galaxy-nexus-540x329.jpg

That is a Verizon 4G logo, not an AT&T one (the AT&T one has flames on it). I know it's not substantial evidence, but there are Verizon versions of this phone floating around in testers hands.

I know there's evidence it will come to other carriers the FCC post for the GSM version of the phone and the Samsung sign up page, but those really don't mean much. Why? Samsung always does a signup page for phones just for data. It doesn't mean a phone will launch on every network! They just want to see what networks their consumers use! As for the FCC, it is good for phones, but let's not use that as the only source for phone info. Phones can pass through the FCC months before a formal reveal and FCC entries can be hidden until after a phone reveal. So I really don't think that's good evidence other carriers will get it.

I know everyone is anxious to hear about this phone's release date and we all don't want to be disappointed like the Nexus One fiasco, but you guys really need to calm down and just take a breather and realize that the phone will be on Verizon in November.

If you ask me, it'll probably roll out on Big Red before any other carrier, but I really don't care if other carriers get the phone. If more people can get their hands on the phone, then that's cool. If it's only Verizon customers, then fine (since I'm one of them ;)).

Can I be wrong? Of course! Do I care that I can be proven wrong? No! I'm only posting this just to calm down people. Everyone needs to stop spreading the same rumors over and over again and just enjoy the fact we will get a good phone. Don't try and reign on a parade that hasn't even been announced!

You can read my post and hopefully chill, or ignore it. As long as someone reads it and realizes its pointless to post speculation about a phone without good proof, then that's makes me happy ^_^.

Good point. But Verizon likes keeping everyone guessing. They are the worst when it comes to release dates. Always last minute.

To keep the third of November in play, I am really hoping for a release date today. I am going out of town the weekend after the 10th and I don't think it will give me enough time to customize my phone.

As a long time Verizon customer, I am very excited that we will FINALLY get some Nexus love from big red. However, as a long time Verizon customer, I can't help but feeling like Charlie Brown running full speed to kick the football.

It is a little concerning to me that we haven't seen any solid leaks for the Verizon variant of the Galaxy Nexus. No FCC data, few images - only a couple from the Hong Kong event with the 4GLTE logo. There are rumors of a thicker device than the GSM version, rumors of different specs for the LTE version, rumored release dates. All rumors. Sure Verizon has officially announced it. But didn't Verizon announce the Nexus S only to replace it with something else?

So, I'm left wondering if Lucy will pull the football away from Charlie Brown at the last second yet again. I don't know, but I'm still running full speed at the football. I just hope I don't fall flat on my back.

Please don't take this as a negative post. I'm just a realist who wants to believe!

If Verizon would just give everyone a damn date on when this this is dropping everyone would be able to stop all the speculation etc. I hope they aren't trying to make this thing release close to Christmas or even the end of November.

You don't even have to be a long-time Verizon customer to have Deja Vu on this. Tell me if this sounds familiar from August.
SGS2 is rumored to be a Verizon exclusive
Other carriers see it pass FCC
Then it's no longer rumored to be a Verizon exclusive
Then it gets announced it will be released in Europe first

This is my first post here, so excuse my noobitry.

I'm on T-Mobile at the moment with the Samsung Vibrant. I was very happy with my service (no dropped calls, great data speeds, etc). I recently moved to a different part of the country and my service now is far below stellar. I have my pennies saved up for both the 300 dollar phone purchase and the 200 dollar ETF for Tmo, and VZW is the best carrier in my new area. I have already made the decision to jump as soon as the Nexus is released.

My question for you is this...in the case of the rumors of the GSII being a Verizon exclusive, you allude to the same happening with the Nexus now. This is a serious question since I'm pretty new to following VZW, but with the GSII did they ever have a sign up page for it on their official website? Did they send out multiple tweets a day saying "Hey, sign up for info regarding our upcoming Galaxy S II?"

Cause, they are doing that with Galaxy Nexus, and it seems odd to me that people think the phone isn't coming to Verizon at all, considering they A. Officially announced that it would via press release. B. Have an official "Sign up for more details soon" page on their website and C. Keep tweeting about it from their official twitter page.

Did they do all of that with the Galaxy S II that they never got?

Also are the gsm variants actually identical to the LTE Verizon version (that is do they have the LTE radio in them but it's just not talked about) or is the Verizon version going to be completely different at the chipset level?

Absolutely not.
GSM version is using Category 14 pentaband chipset, most likely Qualcomm or Infineon, which is much more mature, small, and less power hungry.
LTE handsets are using 2 different baseband chipsets (one for voice and other for data) which significantly adds to the thickness, size and weight of the LTE phone.

Notice during the Samsung keynote how the presenter is talking about the thinness he adds "our GSM model" is only 8.94mm thin.

LTE will most definitely have different dimensions.

I'd love to be wrong, but wouldn't be opening my yap if I thought I was.

There are tons of field testers and engineers (BMX) who have been carrying Verizon LTE phone for a few months at least.

I'm still running full speed at that football. I'm just trying to maintain the faith. But every day that passes my faith erodes just a little bit more. C'mon Lucy, just give us some hope that you won't pull the football again!!!! :D

^^ That would be terrible. Oh well. I'd be happy with any date at this point as long as Verizon would just give us a set date.
