Verizon Galaxy Nexus (Prime) Waiting Room

Is the Nexus Prime supposed to be better spec-wise than Galaxy SII? If so, I might want to hold getting the Galaxy SII.

Get what you want when you want it. As soon as the Nexus Prime is released, there will be rumors of something even better & it will be.

If you always hold out for the next best thing, you will never end up getting anything.

Just make a choice, stick with it, & don't worry about what's coming a few months after it because when you're due for upgrade again in 12-20 months, everything out then will be far ahead of everything out in between.

this is true but galaxy nexus is too near to think in this way :)

I would get the nexus over anything out right now because it's pure google. That kind of thing wont matter now but it will later. Like for me, if I still had my evo I would have to wait for htc to put out Ice cream or wait for a rom developer to get a stable build out (not a complaint, I loved the nightly experience). But rather than doing that I'll get a stable ICS build straight from Google pretty soon (if not instant) after the press conference because I have a nexus device. Personally, I feel like that's more important to me than an incremental update that HTC, Samsung, Motorolla will put out. I would recommend a nexus device over a galaxy s 2 based off of this.

The only reason not to wait for the Galaxy Nexus is if you don't want a phone that big. I'm hoping for a huge performance boost on the Nexus S with ICS, since I don't want a larger phone I'll pass on the new device this time around. Galaxy S2 appears to perform well enough on Gingerbread, has built in hardware acceleration, nice looking widgets etc. I don't think ICS upgrade will matter all that much for that phone.

I just thought about the two nexus prime model numbers floating around - GT-i9250 and the SCH-i515. So far Samsung has always used the GT-i9000 series model number for GSM phones released internationally like both the galaxy s2 and galaxy s. Moreover, for the AT&T version of Galaxy S2, it uses SGH-i777. So SCH-i515 may be referring to the Verizon version and GT-i9250 would be the global version. But recently the GT-i9250 went through the FCC with TMo AWS bands, so the global version might be released for other GSM carriers.

As far as the specs go, we already have two versions of them available. We know that Exynos doesnt support LTE, so it has to be the TI OMAP4 for Verizon and it is under clocked to 1.2 GHz due to LTE battery concerns.

The global version would sport the Exynos CPU as it supports GSM, also, it is released using the Samsung GT branding. This means that they will use their own CPU (provided the Exynos 4212 is available). So I guess, the second set of specs leaked by GSM Arena might be for the global phone which is a good thing.

Regarding the screen size, when I heard that it was 4.65 inches..it sounded insane. Looking at the FCC report, the device is similar in size to Galaxy S2. So, since the phone has ICS...they might have increased the size of the screen by reducing the material around the screen.

Well, this is just my opinion. Lets wait and see.

True, but the Prime is in a different league honestly. It's a pure Google device. And they only come once a year. So whether something better spec'd comes along, doesn't mean it can beat the experience of a Nexus

FCC says 68mm wide for GSM version. GSII is 66mm international. Probably slightly more if you go with Sprint or T-Mobile. In any case, too big for me.

Now how do you possible know that? Please explain. You heard some unconfirmed specs so decided to make something up as fact? Talk about trolling. The speculation has gotten so out of control people are just making stuff up now.

Some of you may have been in the "Samsung Function" forum waiting for the gs2... I feel like this phone is going to go the same way... We have more proof of a gsm version than a cdma and its supposedly going to Verizon first. Sounds just like what the rumors of the gs2 were. We should prepare for a let down, Verizon always does it.

We have gotten confirmation from people familiar with it, the apparent app list, model number leaks I'm the system that match the device that has gone through both Bluetooth and Wifi certification. Plus those leaked applications Android Police has came from a Verizon Nexus Prime. So, I think it's safe to say it's coming.

Confirmation from people familiar with it is not enough these days, to many rumors. Model number doesn't mean its a Nexus, could be a Charge with dual processors. Bluetooth and Wifi certification again mean nothing, they were for model number SCH-515 not Nexus. Only thing we have s the app list thats it. EVERYONE thought for sure the Nexus One was going to Verizon same goes for the GS2.

If it wasn't for the unlimited plan I have with Verizon I would seriously leave.

Both this devices existed and were replaced with higher devices, so they lost their place in the line up. The GS2 specifically was canned in favor of the Nexus Prime, why would they drop yet another device. Also, I do agree there's too many rumors with 'people in know' but the Panda Is one worth listening to. Especially considering he was an ex-Verizon worker and now an employe of Google.

The rumored specs just get more & more disgusting.
Will this phone be obsolete before it's even released?!

Samsung Nexus Prime: Alleged Final Specs Unveiled | Samsung Blog

So what’s in the Nexus Prime? According to Geller, the Ice Cream Sandwich-based phone (that’s the aforementioned Android 4.0 mobile OS) is going to sport a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 processor – a dual-core, Cortex A9 chip that’s expected to run at 1.2 GHz. A full gigabyte of RAM supplements the chip, and all the device’s electronics – including its built-in 32 gigabytes of internal storage – fit within a nine-millimeter-thin frame.
The Nexus Prime’s AMOLED HD screen is expected to hit a total of 4.65 inches in width and run at a 720P resolution, or 1280-by-720 pixels. A 1.3-megapixel camera joins this screen on the smartphone’s front, but its more noteworthy sibling, a 5-megapixel camera capable of recording 1080P video, sits on the smartphone’s rear.
The Nexus Prime’s internal wireless connectivity runs all the way up to Wireless-N, and a built-in 1,750 mAh battery should give enthusiasts plenty of time for futzing around with all the new features of Ice Cream Sandwich – multitasking tool included!

*sigh*

Are we to become nothing more than spec whores?

Brandon

Agreed. Look at the performance of the Nexus S in comparison to many dual core devices and it performs flawlessly. Real world performance, aesthetics, and a more enhanced ui is what makes it for me.

Why wouldn't specs matter?
If you're faced with buying one of two phones and one has higher end technology than the other...
Aren't specs why we all came to this thread in the first place?!
Don't tell me it was simply because you liked the name, or the curved glass.

Exactly. Specs matter a lot! But it doesn't need to be super powerful. For me at least I think the specs of many Android phones now are far beyond what apps really need. But at the same time there seems to be something that makes the phone under-performs on many occasions. Manufacturer's ROMs are part of this.

And isn't this why we're after the pure Google experience?

Anyhow, I think specs that matter to me the most is the RAM, GPU and screen resolution. CPU, not so much anymore.
