Verizon modifies data plan structure - 6GB cost the same as 10GB now

Hopefully, Verizon doesn't tack on a one time $30 upgrade fee for each "Smartphone" on the account???

They state no activation or upgrade fee and that it would be awarded back on your account, when I went in today they never charged me either, only thing I paid for was my screen protector and next month will have tax added on which will be around $30.

Curious to know the exact process...online I don't see an option to not sign up for a plan...

You have to do a Jedi mind trick in store to buy without a contract. And make no mistake, the Dark side will bring their A-game :)

I hope this isn't a re-post, but I was on my account today and just for the heck of it I selected Manage Phone, Change Plan. Imagine my surprise when I saw that the data chart no longer included the 6GB or 8GB options any longer, but better still, 10GB cost the same as 6GB which is what I was paying for (and I only had about 200mb left at the end of my billing cycle yesterday). I called Verizon and confirmed this was legit, and had them change me over (it won't do so automatically, but you can do it yourself on the site). $100 get's you 15GB BTW, but that isn't shown in the screen cap below.

I know there will be some who will chastise me for not using PDANet, but I can't help but feel I will be penalized in some way by Verizon if I don't play their game (like data throttling at best). At least I now know I won't run out of data and my bill remains the same.

Please excuse my ignorance here but i don't know the answer as i have a single line unlimited plan and am thinking of moving from my original razr maxx to the turbo. The chart you posted above on the "more everything" seems to tell me that you get 10gig of data and unlimited talk and text for $80.. i must be missing something here surely? Sounds cheap.. doesn't sound like big red

Plus $40/m per 2 year phone plan, or plus $15/m+edge payment for edge plans.

My wife and I pay $80+$15+$15 + 2 edge payments (each $27) per month for 15gb with my corporate discount (about $165 total I think).

I've tried every other carrier to try to save money and can't handle my work without verizons network.

i'm shafted still lol then. I forgot the $40 and then taxes so it will be maybe $20 a month more for me compared to what i pay right now. I'm still using the original razr maxx and its a great phone. Almost 3 years old but its slowing down quite a bit now .. i'm not buying the phone outright as i want a Nexus 9 too

As Clocks was pointing out there is a formula for it and there is a little bit of a dance to it, but you get deeper discounts the more you buy into the Verizon Offering stack.

So I currently am on the 15Gig per month plan with 2 lines.

Base Plan Cost: 100.00 - 20% Corporate Discount (80) which gives me 15G of shared Data, Unlimited Talk and Text.
2 Lines: 80 (40 each line) - 50.00 (25 each line) for Edge payment plan. (30)

So my total before normal taxes and such is 110.00 per month for the plan and lines.

This is comparable to my costs when I had 1 Unlimited Line and 1 Dumbphone on the plan. Since my family member wanted a smart phone this time around it just made more sense for me to modify my plan.

So basically you have a Plan Charge, a Line Charge, and then Extras (Insurance, Premium Options like Premium Voice Mail). This makes up your Bill. You can reduce line charges by doing the Edge Program but you still end up paying for the phone. Anything < 100.00 More Everything Plan reduces you by 15 per month, or with 100.00 or more you get a 25 per month reduction per line.

They really want people to lock into plans and this is another way they give deeper discounts for those folks signing on for 2 years without a contract but instead tied to a phone subsidy in the form of a monthly payment. The plans are good but its not AS cheap as alternatives, but the coverage really is the best nationwide (noted as someone that travels quite a bit).

EDIT: I forgot to add - you are basically then adding as an extra the phone costs to the top over 24 payments. But whether you are paying full retail or breaking it up.. it comes out to the same cost in the end. So its 110.00 + 52.00 a month for 2 new phones, assume about 180 with taxes and fees.

well i'm happy. They are doing 6gig of data at VZW for no extra cost of my current bill for anyone giving up unlimited data till end year .. new phone here i come

And how much for the voice and text plan to go with it? Go ahead, let's compare...

He could use Google voice for unlimited talk / txt -- That is what I have been seeing some people do to keep their price low. I believe it then costs $65 a month + tax.

I used to use Google Voice for free texts and free visual voice mail. Now I just use it for the visual voice mail.

Texting just became too unreliable with delayed notifications & delivery of messages.

I'm still getting delayed notifications of voice mails even since the switch to Hangouts.

LOL, my bill is $115 if nothing changes. There's 20% discount in there as well for the company I work for, but it only applies to part of the bill (I think the discount is $16 total).

My company also offers a bill discount through Verizon. I almost took them up on it a few years ago, but then I read the fine print. In short, it would have given them unrestricted access to my bill, texts, call history/data, contacts, etc. Not worth the savings IMO.

Very interesting. Is that Verizon fine print, or your company?
