Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

3rd try did it for me and that rep had no problem at all! She couldn't understand why first 2 didn't see it. Just odd.

I'm really confused now. My current UDP line's contract ends in 11/2016.

If I call Verizon now and request the 100-miinute promo, will my contract be extended to 11/2017?

Thanks!

I think it is only for people whose contents have expired but you could try.

I am on a family share, and I added LOYALTY 100 MINUTE promo to my primary line. But I also have another line with UDP. Anyone know if the promo can be added to more than one line on a particular account? Maybe I should just try and see what they say.

Has anyone figured out what the penalty would be for terminating service before the one year is up? There is a formula for computing the decreasing ETF over a two year contract, but how do they work these extensions?? I don't have any plans to terminate; I was just curious.

That's why I'm confused. :) Some who still have over 1 year of contract remaining said they were able to get it extended to 2 years. While some say it's only for people who are currenttly out of contract.

Give it a try and see what happens. It can't hurt to try. Let us know how it goes.

why do I always gotta be the guinea pig? :D

that's how I ended up eating cat meat when I was an
exchange student in China 30 years ago. (super tasty,
but I threw up the whole bowl after they told me that it
was cat meat) I wish my cat can understand English
because I can scare him when he misbehaves. For
example, I can say "I know what cat meat tastes like
so you better no rip up the leather couch again!.

The real question is do we still have to pay the extra $20

No, not if you're in contract, according to Post #3 of this thread which quotes the Verge article linked in Post #1:

"Note that this change only impacts customers who are out of contract; if you're signed to an existing two-year agreement, you'll keep your current rate for the term of that contract. Once you go month-to-month, the $49.99 data fee takes effect."

You scared me for a second, I had to go look for the answer, as I forgot too. There was also a post here that reported getting the 100 free minutes and contract extension, and the VZW rep told him it was a good idea what he was doing.

But that says existing 2 year contract. By doing the 100 min 100 text extension I am on a ONE year contract. It worries me they always specify TWO year contract which I do not have.
VZW rep thought it would still work but I get warning every time I log in to my vzw.

I was able to add the loyalty 100 minutes and 100 texts. I have been with Verizon for 7 years. The agent knew exactly what I was referring to. I was out of contract before and now my contract is extended for a year. Hopefully this will stop me from getting hit with the new $49 data.

If we get hit this month I'm hoping it goes away next month. Takes them forever to mod billing

Did you do this over the phone or online chat?

Thanks! :)

It would be horrible to find out that I locked myself in for twelve months at the higher price . . . .

Give it a try and see what happens. It can't hurt to try. Let us know how it goes.

I can confirm that this deal works fine for people like me
whose unlimited data line is currently under contract.

I used online chat and the Verizon rep knew immediately
what I was talking about.

My line has unlimited data plan. Prior to the online chat,
the contract end date is 11/30/2016.

The Verizon rep informed me that I would get 100 bonus
minutes per month for THIS LINE ONLY until 10/01/2016.
She said my unlimited data plan would not be affected.

After she added the bonus offer, my contract end date
was updated to 10/03/2017. (two years from today)
In addition, she also confirmed that this unlimited data plan
line will not be subject to the $20 increase. However, the
$20 increase WILL kick after 10/03/2017. So I
basically saved $240($20 x 12 months) by agreeing to
this 1-year extension.

I guess you're lucky and I'm not?

Your luck has rubbed off on me:

It's quite possible we've outsmarted ourselves. In my case, yes, I've already outsmarted myself because I would have preferred to lock in the Loyalty Max 6 GB plan with its subsidized phone.

In addition, she also confirmed that this unlimited data plan
line will not be subject to the $20 increase.

Thanks, that's sorta reassuring. Except that they specifically use the words "two-year contract," and not just "contract." And except that your contract expires in two years, so that UDP line might be considered under a "two-year contract."

In any case, you might want to save the entire chat transcript, particularly the part about not getting the $20 increase.

Decisions decisions. Use a loophole and extend contract 2 years or just say screw it and join T-Mobile for $80 a month on unlimited everything (no more worrying about minutes). My heart wants to leave for T-Mobile but I'm scared. I need an adult.

I wish I saved the chat transcript. However, I did ask very
specifically about the $20 increase. The VZW assured
me that I would not need to worry about it. At least not until
10/03/2017(the new contract end date for my UDP line)

In any case, the #1 concern for me is keeping the UDP
line for as long as humanly possible at a reasonable cost.
Even if I start to get charged $20 after 2017, it's not that
HUGE of a deal, compared to having UDP. :)

A lot can happen in 2 years. We may have a woman
president. We may have a Jewish president. We may
even have a president with funny hair who like building
walls. Or worse, we may be fighting a couple of new
regional wars with China or Russia. (or China AND
Russia)

In fact, I'm more worried that Verizon will not let UDP
customers on the new superfast 5G band when it
arrives.
