Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

I have same calling plan, no text package (I use GV instead).

Ditto, 450 peak minutes, no text plan (per-text charges).

Workarounds:
Texts:
- GV for SMS texts
- [10-digit phone number]@vzwpix.com for MMS-like texts to/from Verizon customers.

Voice minutes:
- Sipdroid/GV/pbxes.org (free account, disconnects phone calls at about the hour mark, then gotta redial) for free U.S. VOIP.

Going to a new plan with unlimited voice and texts will take all the fun out of beating our current plan's limitations.

actually the $45 includes unlimited calling and texting but with the $29.99 plan you still have to pay for the texting and calling features. I'm not in Verizon's corner but I'm just making a point

^^^^^ Nice moves . . . Hangouts for iOS is VOIP but not Android? I have a mobile number on Skype but haven't found a way to leverage GV for calls over LTE.

Ok, I'll play since now the gloves are off from Verizon. So this means I should be able to swap out my 3G card now on my plan to a 4G card with no worries about changing my data plan. Yes/No?
Not sure what plan you have specifically... But I have switched between 3g and 4GLTE devices without impacting unlimited data on the nationwide plan

It's VOIP on Android now too.

I think I'll still get my 20 dollar discount on my Verizon account so while my bill will increase, I'm still just now starting to pay 30 bucks for unlimited data. Luckily I just reeupped my contracts this year so I won't have to worry about this for a while anyway.

It's a passive-aggressive play to push people out of UDP without "canceling" the program. VZW doesn't care if you close your account. They want everyone off UDP.

Yea that's basically it in a nutshell!

I'd get off UDP if they'd give me, oh 13 odd gigs for the 30 a month. I usually average around 10-11, but I'd want a bit more for a buffer.

So I see "old plans from the Alltel days. Like the Legacy Alltel SmartChoice plan. These will not see a $20 increase on their bill, and you’ll be able to keep the truly unlimited data you’ve been enjoying for years."

I started this plan in 1998 from Alltel and added on the UDP and SMS after. Do you think I will be safe or is this a Verizon plan?

Local 2 Plan 615 Fimf $29.95
Email & Web Unlimited $29.99
500 MSG Allowance + UNL IN MSG $10
Monthly Charges: $69.94

Sounds like your data is separate and will end up with a 20 dollar increase.

Same here. Kept my UDP when I went from 3G to 4G.

With my employer discount only $16 more monthly. Plus I use 25 to 30+ gigabytes a month! So whose getting the best of who rofdlmao.

Verizon to raise price of grandfathered unlimited data plans by $20 | The Verge

Final straw for me. I don't even use more than 5GB of data a month on my plan but this is enough to convince me to try someone else as I no longer feel like I am giving something up. Thankfully I have a new Nexus on the way and a Project Fi invite in my inbox.

I just bought a cricket sim to see what the service is like in my area. This gave me a good reason to finally try something else, and if nothing else will get to get any phone I want without dealing with Verizon and their BS

Nationwide Plan. I've never been aware of anyone who could swap out a 3G USB modem to a 4G USB modem and keep unlimited on the account. Tell me how you did it, can't be done online at Verizon without it triggering " you need to change your data plan" prompt. I'm unlimited on all the 4G phones on my account, no problems. The modem appears to be the issue...

There's a $20/device charge, so you can't just have a naked $45 plan.

(To be totally accurate, if you have a hotspot device, they do offer similar plans without a hotspot device charge, but those tiers have less data for the same data price, e.g., the $45 hotspot plan gives you 2 GB IIRC. And, of course, no voice or texts.)

Yeah, it surprised and disappointed me that they didn't offer at least some small goodie (the installment plan they're offering is insulting). Just for the sake of goodwill, to anger fewer customers, and therefore retain more customers.

Hmmmm, the more I think about this . . . I'm not so upset about this change. My calling plan was discontinued in 2008. UDP went away in 2011. I've been out of contract since 2012. In that time, my plan and rates have not changed. It looks like the largest data bucket VZW offers now is 18GB for $100. I'll have to think about this a bit more.

There's more. 20GB for $120 for example.

Can one just convert from a personal account to a business account and keep the UDP?

Yes, but if I'm paying $90 total for calling with UDP, does it matter? The 20GB for $120 just goes to the same point. You can't buy UDP at any price.

Caveat:

Verizon you still suck. I think you're an evil company and bully subscribers just because you can. Carriers like T-Mobile are nipping at your tail and will eventually take you down . . .

They are basically daring you to go to T-Mobile.

(T-Mobile is nowhere near Verizon's tail though)
