Verizon raising the price for Unlimited Data Plan by $20 after November 15, 2015

Well, the third time didn't work to get the loyalty promo :( She did ask if I was trying to extend a contract to avoid the price increase--she'd had several calls about it today.
And as always with Verizon I got another story on the upgrade. This rep said the price increase for the UDP will start tomorrow and be pro-rated through to the next cycle start date so it would cost him $14. Then the full $20 increase would apply.
Then, as an interesting twist that I haven't heard anywhere else (and frankly don't believe), she said that if there was a loyalty promo that could be applied later, such as during the holiday season, that would negate the price increase and it would go back to $29.99. Anybody else heard this one?

Just spent about 30 min on the phone with another Verizon rep. Still no 100 min/text loyalty promo :( I must not be saying the right thing.

This guy had a new take on the UDP price increase. He tells me that even if I had been able to secure the Loyalty promo today it would not have helped postpone the price increase. Unlike the the last rep who said a contract date could be back dated and negate the price increase, he says if you weren't in contract when the notification came out in October (not the 11/15 date) that anything you did to go back in contract--phone upgrades or Loyalty promos--wouldn't matter, you'd still have the increase on the next bill. So--according to him--all these people who have bought phones through Best Buy (I didn't mention the BB upgrade loophole to him) or received the Loyalty promo after 10/15 may get a surprise when the bill generated after 11/15 arrives.

He tried to tell me what a favor Verizon was doing for the UDP customers because they would now allow them to use the Device Payment Plan. But you'd still be paying full price for the phone. I started to go into it with him about these people were already paying subsidized phone prices on their lines but I decided I'd try talking to someone later.

IF it weren't for the upcoming $20 increase this would almost be comical -- Keeping track of all the different explanations they come up with

Yes - comical is right. I got this one today, along with the explanation that Verizon does me the favor of not throttling me, and that I take some sort of preference over tiered data plan customers on the towers. He then proceeded to try to tell me I don't need the UDP and should really consider downgrading. Maybe not now, but just you wait...

I have a bill in my verizon app for 9/21 - 10/20 and there is no $20 increase. I did the 1 year extension about a week ago. Does this mean I am home free or would increase appear in 10/21 - 11/20 bill?

According to what Rep #3 told me (and who knows what to believe!!!), the increase will be pro-rated from 11/15 to the end of your billing cycle--in your case 11/20--and then the full $20 will start on the next bill. Hopefully you'll be able to avoid the increase for the next year. I was never able to get a rep that could 'find' that promo for my account. Bahhhhh :( Actually could have used the extra min as well as the chance of avoiding the increase.

Apparently Good News For Contract Extenders

My billing date is the 15th (they take out the payment on the 9th, and this morning shows no phone calls, no texts, 0.001 GB of data in my usage cycle). Below is this morning's (the 16th) screenshot of my "My Plan" page, showing I still have $29.99 UDP.

I guess I cannot really relax until I see next month's bill. $20 a month won't kill me but my wife will get to bust my chops nd THAT kills me. lol

I transferred my upgrade(my unlimited data line) from one line to another, so that I could get a new phone for my wife about three weeks ago through the BB site and only paid $1 plus the $35 from the Verizon side of things. This put me under contract and I was able to keep my unlimited internet. I bought the phone online then picked it up at the BB store. They activated it for me and everything seems fine. Also, this past February 2015 I got a new phone from directly from VZ by transferring my wife's upgrade to my unlimited line and that went smooth too. So I'm under contract until 2017 so I guess the hike will probably not affect me I'm assuming.

I would switch to a tdp if I could get 12 gb for the same $ I pay now. VZW is silly not to make such an offer to UDP holders. 6 or 8 gb not enough and their offer costs as much as I pay now.

I assume this to be correct.

I got my bill online. There was no extra $20 charge for data. Earlier in the month, I got the loyalty 100 minutes 100 texts. Everything looks good until late 2016.

It's next month's bill you need to look at. I don't think anybody got the surcharge yet.

On Verizon website, my plan is showing $29.99 for the current cycle of Nov 16- Dec 17. If the $20 was for the current cycle, wouldn't Verizon update the information in the website for my plan? Everything looks the same.

Yes you're right. That means I should be safe too. Mine was Oct 21 to Nov 20 and they said I have to look at next month so I thought everyone did. You are already next month. Excellent

Re: Verizon to raise the price of unlimited data by $20 in November

Things to note:

  • Only applies if you're out of contract. If you're still on contract, you will not see this increase until your contract is up
  • Does not apply to government and corporate accounts. No increases on those lines.
  • Out of contract customers with the Unlimited Data Plan are now eligible to buy phones on Verizon's device payment plans

Not surprising since you're now out of contract. At least they didn't wipe out the plan altogether.

So I got back into a 1year contract via an International promotion. (My billing cycle isn't over yet, so I'm waiting until next month to see that my UDP cost hasn't gone up anyway.)

But I now see that if I attempt to purchase an upgraded phone via the verizon web store it still forces me to select a TDP option, whether I buy via a monthly payment, via a 2 year contract price, or even at full retail!

I thought we were going to be allowed to buy a new phone and keep UDP??? Or is that really for out-of-contract UDP (paying the $20 increase) only? I'm hoping they just need a little time to reprogram their web store, but knowing Verizon I kind of expect it's intentional.

That's correct AFAIK.

Out of contract with the extra $20 allows you to buy devices on a Device Payment Plan AND keep Unlimited Data.

So having extended my contract I actually prevented myself from being able to upgrade my phone and keep UDP. Figures. Wonder if that includes phone bought at retail elsewhere then activated on my line?

FYI, I tried the Web store again, and now it seems I can get a phone into my cart without selecting a TDP, either via monthly payments (-$100 UPGRADE promo works) or via full retail. 2yr contract price still forces me to select a TDP.

Looks like either they were just in the middle of reprogramming their web store, or they keep track of cookies and tried to sucker me in the first time before offering to let me keep UDP. :-$
