Verizon S3 to Straight Talk

Joann, don't fret, What is your issue. I have been reading all night trying to simply get my MMS to work and only one picture showed me I had the phone set to Global when it should have been the GSM setting and that cleared it all up. Thank You Stevan For us less than supreme Android Users those pictures really helped. (Guess Im a visual learner)

I want to say Thank You!!! I am not tech smart at all but I followed your directions and had no problem. I even got that sim card notice taken off my phone. So once again Thank You!!!

I have a question? My Verizon Gs3 is the i535 - 4.3 version. And I'm wanting to go to straight talk. Are the setup instructions the same as for the 4.1.2 version? Or am I gonna have issues? Please let me know... I don't need to mess up my phone were it won't work.

Ugh. Everything was great for a week but ths morning my E is gone. No network. No green and orange arrows....I can make a call on wi-fi. Idead anyone. My kids get a hold of me on this phone! I really need it to work!

I really want to try this to see if it works. I wasn't going to buy the SGS3 unless I knew it would work, I called ST and they said it would, and now that I have it, and I called them back to see what I needed and what I needed to do, they said no way would it work. So now not only am I pissed, I'm let down because I really want to use this phone, AND I'm out 300.00.

So if I buy the SIM card kit and I use and it doesn't work, and I decide to resell the phone, does it cause any issues.

AND if I try it and it DOES work, how do I move my number to THAT phone from my old phone?

Sorry for what probably seems like stupid questions but I'm not terribly tech savy. And I'm so disappointed, I've never really had a "good" smartphone, and I just really wanted this phone, and I'm so dejected I've not been able to use it. I'm going to go to Walmart tomorrow and hopefully they will have the kit. The Walmarts around here and not ST stocked very well.

I'm still waiting on the correct answer to my questions I posted a day or 2 ago and still no response. Where's the know it all techs at? Please we need answers that are correct.

This is great info Stephan, This is the second phone ST has shown compatible on their website but when I call they say it is not. The first phone I tried this with (Verizon Droid) I had to return the kit to Wal-Mart. I'm going to try this again with my current Verizon SG3, SCH-1535 Andriod Version 4.3 with your instructions above. Just one question if you can answer. I want to port my number from verizon. Can this still be done simply by following that procedure in combination with your notes or do I have to get a new number? If successful and I decide I don't like ST for some odd reason, can I go back to Verizon (Assuming it would just be adding a new line back on)?
I have ported a Verizon number to a ST phone for a friend and it was quick and smooth. I could only be so lucky.

Thought I'd ask before I attempt to do this.

Thank You, Tammy

Are the setup instructions the same as for the 4.1.2 version?
If you're referring to the setup instructions in post #15, I don't see any reason why they'd be any different on 4.3 than they were on 4.1.2 - all of the menus appear to be the same.
Where's the know it all techs at?
The know-it-all techs have obviously gone to the Straight Talk forums; only those of us dumb enough to still be on Verizon remain.

I haven't done this myself mind you (although I'm sorely tempted to try, particularly if Straight Talk provides you with a new number, and you can switch back-and-forth by simply swapping the SIM cards), but it would seem a wiser course of action to get it working on Straight Talk first, then to port your number once everything is working as you expect. YMMV.

As I noted previously, I haven't done this myself, but from the little I know there doesn't seem to be a downside: if it doesn't work, simply remove the APN that you created, then shut down the phone and re-insert the original Verizon SIM card. It should work just like it did before the attempt. YMMV.

I haven't done this either but a previous poster made it seem like there were instructions on the Straight Talk website that described how to port your old number.

So I did this after some homework but I do not know that maybe I should have grabbed the T-Mobile micro Sim instead. Anyways I commute to work and live in a town just outside of my work and preferred network area. Straight talk works on AT&T Edge service in main work area but when I'm home area it says I'm ROAMING. Now I've searched a Lil bit and found no answers to this question.

Since I'm roaming off of ST, what are the pros and cons? I can make phone calls and can text but obviously data doesn't work which is fine. I have WiFi at home but I've read that ST doesn't do or have roaming so how am I roaming and able to make and receive calls? Any downside here people?

This was only Tested on 4.1.2. If you have the ability to swap network to GSM then your more than likely going to be ok. As I stated before this was only tested on the 4.1.2. Android OS.

P.S. Us "Know it all techs" do have lives as well as you do. Be patient and await a response or find the solution else ware if you cannot wait.

Porting your number over is easy and only takes around 30 min or so. Your original service will work until your number has been ported over. Follow steps on Straight Talks website to port over number.

To Stephan Blake.. thank u for the info. So far it all works good. Just takes a while before the texting with pics goes through as well as receiving. But so far doing good. Thanks. And as for the phrase know it all techs.. I think everyone took it the wrong way.. sorry for the misconception there.

Stephan, I decide to follow your advise and I went to Walmart and got the Kit, I came home and opened and realized that the sim cards inside are not the same as the ones in your pictures, I got this:
A- Standard or micro sim for ATT, (there is only nano, no micro sim card)
B- Nano Sim for ATT
C- Standard or Micro for TMobile (you have to cut out the Micro)
D- Nano Sim for TMobile, but there is a standard sim card with the option to cut out a micro same size as option C

I can't use TMobile since in my area TMobile is almost useless.. I can barely place a calls here in 18603
My Galaxy S3 came with Verizon Micro and only uses Micro Sim Card
Compatibility wise, the BYOP site says the this phone is CDMA and could be used with ST but with Sprint Access, but in this area Sprint is as useless as TMobile, I will order a Micro Sim Card for ATT from Walmart.com to see how it works if it does its actually better since its only $6.88
It could be that who ever put the cards in the packaging messed up the order of the cards, but I don't want to take any chances, is my son's phone and if the grey card that had standard size and micro is not the one for ATT then my son is going to be with out phone for few days and he is going to probably kill me..
