VZW Share Everything Plans

There are Share Everything plans for those with just basic phones. One is $40 for 700min and pay as you go data. The other is $70 for unlimited minutes/texts and 300MB of data. Each additional phone is then $30 each. http://o.vzwshop.com/shareeverything/pdf/pverizon_share_everything_plan_details.pdf

Even the dumbphone access plans are worse now for new accounts. 700 minute plan would cost 40+30+30 for 3 lines where it currently costs 69.99 +9.99 for third line. It is them effectivly raising the price by $20. Then tack on discount changes. I get 26% discount on the 50 part of the 69.99 for the plan an 9.98 for the first line so a discount of 59.99 x 26% = $15.60. So net cost for just talk is currently $59.99-15.60+9.99+9.99(third line)= $64.37. I am unsure how discounts will apply with new plans but I am assuming the 26% discount will apply to the first line 40 access fee thing. So $40x26% = $10.40 discount. Net cost for 3 lines $40 -10.40 +30+30= $89.60. So in this case, it is Verizon effectively raising prices by $25.23 for no difference in what you are receiving. That's a 39% price increase.

The thing that has me worried is I can see Verizon down the road force people onto these new plans when they upgrade their phones. The other thing is news agencies are reporting on these new plans saying it will make cell phone purchasing so much easier. Not one is reporting the real truth on how these new plans are just a huge price increase for the exact same service.

Verizon was already justifying the old cost due to subsidized phones and superior network, how about after these price gauge changes? It makes no sense.

If we see another company change to match it closely match these prices, then there needs to be an investigation and fines and do whatever to stop this anti competive practice, but the problem is nothing will be done. The govt agencies are not there to protect the citizens/consumers, they look out for big business. Also the average consumer will just sit there and take it in the rear from Verizon because they don't want to change carriers.

I am glad I have my current plan, but the second they force me to switch to these new plans, you will lose my business. Sprint don't be evil and follow in Verizon's footsteps because you know at&t will (Verizon and att always copy each other).

I'm torn as to what to do. For our current 1400 min, $10/each text, $30/each unlimited data if we go with the 6GB bucket. We use just above 2Gb combined, so I can safely go down to 4GB and save $10/month. I would probably use the phone hotspot some with my wifi-only tablet, which would be nice, and still easily stay below 4GB. But I feel like maybe I'll use more data with the SGS III b/c of the LTE and bigger screen than my fascinate, and I'm loathe to give up unlimited even though I don't use that much data b/c I'll never get it back.

I just called best buy, they said that you can keep unlimited but told me to make sure to have the sales rep at best buy call Verizon and lock the plan in before activation when you come pick it up

Why not pre order the s3 and then wait a few months to see how it goes, then you can see if the share plan would make sense based on your more than likely increased data usage.

The marketplace audio I linked above did kinda call them out, at least pointed out their flawed marketing.

I agree, depending on how bad this is received, all changes will eventually force you into this type of plan. They'll get away with it, people will complain and make a big stink but hardly anyone will actually leave over it. Then in a couple years they'll change it again to squeeze a few more dollars out of us and we'll be complaining on how we're leaving if we can't keep our share everything plan. It's a cycle, which always end with you paying more money for less service then you had.

I thought the LTE phones were supposed to be quicker and use less data? That said, I also heard they expect people on LTE to use more data because it IS so quick they'll want to do things over the data signal.

Bigger network pipe typically means things are going to be faster which means you're probably going to use it more since you're not waiting for things to load. Although in my case my wife averages about 5GB on her 3G iphone 4s and I only use 1-2GB on my 4G thunderbolt. Although I think I can chalk that up to her social networking addiction and streaming radio.

Re: unlimited data and pre-order of galaxy iii @ best buy

The guy at Best Buy just gave me some good advice for my situation. My upgrade date is July 3rd and I'm trying to avoid changing plans. He said if I come in on...say, the 26th, he'd call them and see if they'd be willing to allow me to push up the upgrade date, since we're talking about about a week. he said in the past they were willing to do taht. Now, if they still will...who knows.

But he said if they ARE willing, then I can upgrade to, let's say, a Nexus, until the GS3 comes in, and then because it's less than 30 days, it'd just be a matter of an equipment swap! But then if they won' do it, then, I guess it's waiting to see if I want to change plans or pay full price.

Interestingly enough though, if I change plans, it may not be that bad for me. He said I'd have unlimited voice and text for $40, an additional $10 for my Galaxy Tab, which I hardly use, and then we figured out I'd probably need a 4GB plan which would run $70. That's $120. As is, I'm paying about $118 a month for my current plans and I don't have unlimited talk or text...not that I would use it.

So I went ahead and preordered my GS3 today from them. Let's hope it was the right thing to do.

I just got this email from verizonwireless. They cancelled my sgs3 order!

Dear XXX,
Your confirmation number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, location xxxxxxxx and any related Plan or Feature changes previously agreed to on 06/06/2012 has been canceled. To re-order, please visit Cell Phones - Smartphones: Cell Phone Service, Accessories - Verizon Wireless, your local Verizon Wireless retail location, or by calling 800-922-0204 to speak to a representative.
Thank you for using Verizon Wireless.

I guess they change their mind about keeping the unlimited plan for preorder users. I will get the MAXX now.

That's a first that I have heard about a preorder being canceled. I would call up Verizon to find out why.

I preordered three Galaxy S III phones on 6/6, showing the unlimited data plans being kept, and just got an email saying one was cancelled. What the heck? I wonder if the same will happen to the other two now ...

So moving forward, are they still going to offer the individual data plans (2GB for $30, etc.)? I'm part of a family plan, right now, we don't have unlimited minutes or texts (nor do we really need either of those), mine is the only smartphone, and I have unlimited data for $30. We still have a while before we can get new phones, or anything like that, and I know if/ when I do upgrade, I'm going to get pushed into a capped data plan. But this new "shared" data thing seems like it'd be more expensive.

I typically use just under two gigs in a month, so I'd be fine with that limit, for $30. But I'd hate to get stuck with some new "shared" plan, having to pay $50 just for 1GB...

Here's my BB experience FWIW...

I went in and pre-ordered the phone from BB on Monday largely because they are not as idiotic as the Verizon store people PLUS they were going to give me $50 for my old phone. As part of the pre-order process they make you buy a $50 gift card which you can present when the phone comes in, so all is well.

Unfortunately, Verizon makes their annoucement yesterday so to be safe I started trying to sort out where I stood and, it was NOT good. BB basically orders the phone for you and the contract does not get processed until you come in, pick-up the phone and activate it...all likely after June, 28th. So, I worked via phone with Verizon to order the phone AND lock in my existing unlimited data plan which the guy noted in my file and assured me would be the case. In other words, even though I won't physcially get the phone for a few weeks, I basically re-upped the existing contract today (before the new plans become effective). This would not have been the case had I continued with BB.

Now, I circled back to BB to cancel the previous deal and, you guessed it, they don't want to refund my $50 gift card. They said I could use the card on something, then return it to get my money back...which of course is stupid. I've asked the BB guy to elevate the issue in hopes of cancelling the card and crediting my credit card back the $50. I'll know in a few days.

This thing has been a mess and I'm pretty irritated with both Verizon and now BB at this point. The bottom line for everyone else though is; if you pre-ordered from BB you will be subject to whatever contract structure is in effect (likely the new one) when you pick up your phone. I suppose all this is just delaying thee inevitable since whatever you do, the next contract will be on the tiered plan anyway. Good luck navigating throught his cf.

I also just got an email and a txt saying that my sgs3 order from 6/6/12 was cancelled. I called in and they said they had absolutely no idea why it was cancelled. They put in a problem ticket when I told them that others are having this issue too. The rep told me to pre order the phone again online. The order looks the same as far as my old plan and unlimited minutes. Hopefully it won't affect when I get my phone, since I ordered it originally so early.

I haven't gotten a cancellation email (yet) and I ordered on 6/6. Perhaps it's credit card/name issues that are causing them to reject?

Re: Here's my BB experience FWIW...

It's been stated elsewhere in this forum that Verizon has issued a statement saying if you pre-order with BB you will retain your unlimited, regardless of the delivery date of the phone. They said just be sure you have BB called verizon before activating it to ensure your unlimited stays in tact.

Don't believe them, they just want you to spend your money at verizon. I called and they noted in my account that I will keep unlimited no matter what, even if I get it at best buy
