waiting for Thunderbolt my Storm is dying - what to do?

yeah a wipe / shrink / load should at least get the phone back to a usable state. RIM really dropped the ball with the storm. Could be the turning point for the company

I have no hope for that or I'd prolly still be over on CB.com waiting for a new BB. Constant chatter over there about how behind the times RIM is and doesn't appear RIM is going to change that. I'm not one that deals with change readily, I had to talk myself into getting an open mind to even think about a droid phone. Now that I have made up my mind ... well, you know the rest

yes, thanks to some helpfull folks at crackberry.com forums i found out how to wipe, shrink, load etc to the storm.

what i dont understand is, how did RIM think that the average user, the 90-95% of users, how did RIM think they could do this?
average user is going to go back to vzw store and say the phone is screwed up etc.
did RIM really think the average user would know how to wipe and reload the OS?
disappointing.

No they just make under powered junk... For giggles the other day i looked up the specs on the storm 1 & 2, and its a slap in the face to any one who though they where getting an "exclusive" smart phone (remember at the time these where VZW's "Iphone killers" LMFAO).

I could only put up with the Storm for a year...I then went and bought a Tour which has been wonderful to me but the trackball has been acting up for a few months now and as of last week, its not working at all..all I'm able to do is phone calls ( which i rarely do)...but I agree with the backup and wipe (sounds funny) method, it may hold you ever for the next week or so

You should see my Storm 1, I had to duct tape the back cover on yesterday because it will no longer stay on after the bizillinth battery pull!

To me it's not even worth doing the wipe right now. I mean the release date seems to be set for the 24th. I've been able to hold on without doing a wipe since October (when I was eligible for upgrade), so I think it can hold on for another 10 days.

You could prolly get rid of this one, too. If you hold your S1 vertical, top left side is a little lock icon (hard to see). You can click to lock/unlock, no additional software needed.

I'm hoping to avoid that as well. It's time consuming even w/a backup and I hope to be able to save that time for my Android learning curve and setting up my new phone.

If you're still within a year on the tour, just get it replaced. 1 year warranty. plus you'll be able to fetch more for it when you sell it.

QuickPull app is wonderful and can save the battery door. I have mine set to go off every night/morning at 2AM for me. Can't wait to not have to do that anymore.

I learned about QP early in my BB days and have used it ever since. However, my screen locking up wouldn't let me get to it this morn so I had to do 2 hard pulls. Sigh ... like you, can't wait to not have to do that anymore.

My Storm could only put up with its self for a year... One month to the day from the warranty being up it just stopped working screen froze and shut its self down and never came back up... Guess I got lucky, I thought my Storm was bad, I have a friend whose on like his 9th and his contract is not up for months still. Seems like that would be counter productive with all those returns and replacements VZW or RIM would have fixed something some where...

Wow, I guess in all actuality I've actually had it pretty good with my Storm. I had to get one replaced through Asurion because my dog got a hold of it in April, but that's been it. I couldn't imagine going through 6 or 9 like some people have mentioned here.

Yeah, to me the need for an app that relieves you of the pain of removing you battery cover, to reset the phone, would be the first sign that I needed to change something with my platform.

And to think...I was just as excited waiting for the Storm to be released as I am with the Tbolt...Guess i got lucky with my Storm too, only had to replace it once for screen issues...9 times is ridiculous, they should just give your friend and whole different phone, thats not fair to have to deal with that.

When "boldgate" started I was one of the lucky crackberry members who was able to get the bold in exchange for the tour. I dont miss that phone at all.

I ran out the first day and got my Storm1 lmao. Its also on its last legs.

I am also on my Storm 1 (waited in line on launch day!)- I did have to get it swapped about 6 months in due to part of the screen not clicking. Other than that, given that I use QuickPull regularly, the last officially released OS (by some spanish carrier I think) has actually been the best OS on the device yet. 5.0.0.1041 - its been doing pretty well for the past month, should hold out until Tbolt is released, I think
