What does the 1x, 3G, 4G disappear?

I've seen threads about this issue in several forums, so my belief is it is a systemic problem, either network, device or software.
Agreed.

Personally, I have faith that a fix will be forthcoming. I don't see much value in playing "phone roulette". Probably just waiting for the new ROM will work fine. Or waiting for VZW to fine tune 4G. I know that some folks won't want to wait, but I guess sometimes that is the cost of being an early adopter :)

I gotta tell ya', these 4G speeds on the mobile hotspot save me bunch of time. I love it!

its not the sim guys, I have good 4g coverage at my school and around my house for some reason it starts acting up. I have seen people replace their sim card and it starts acting up again. I think its a network problem, there was a talk about this phone being ready when the network is ready since they took the 4g teams off to improve the 3g network to support iphone 4. I think they are paying for their mistake now, since they are selling alot more phones on their network and some areas a suffering more then others.

even if drive down 3 miles to the next city it works great.

Having this same issue of losing signal, 1x, 3G, and 4G. According to VZW map coverage, I'm right in the middle of the 4G area.

According to the maps, I should be covered completely too but when I'm home I have no 4G and at work I stay in 4G about 90% of the time. I only live 3 miles away from work. According to everything I've been reading, the problem is with the network, not the phone. I'm keeping an eye on these forums for updates but until the problems are resolved, 3G is working great.

Is it possible that the radio interfaces with location data and keeps 4G off when its in an area that differently doesn't have 4G?

Slow but this sounds right. The phone knows where it is and should be np to just enable 4g when its in range. I wouldn't be surprised if the LTE radio is off except when the phone is notified its in a 4G area

Does anybody here have the extended battery? The reason I ask is the antenna is built into the battery cover. Since a different battery cover is used for the extended battery it may make a difference in reception. It could be the same, worst or better.

I'm using the extended battery and haven't noticed a difference.

Got a new SIM card last night. I've seen it drop the network completely and get stuck in 1X a handful of times last night and so far this morning at work. Perhaps it's a bit less often, but it still happens. Not my idea of a $250 improvement over what I had with the Fascinate, especially since I can't get a 4G signal deep in the bowels of my building at work.

Been seeing this issue a lot. Noticed that it is getting a little bit better. Hopefully it truly is the network and they'll get this 4g -> 3g handover resolved.

This morning my TB got stuck in 1X at the office and has been that way for the past 3 hours. My co-worker's Fascinate and our on-call Blackberry have 3G just fine, the BB and Fascinate both say they have a worse signal than the TB, -80dBm and -72dBm versus the TB -59dBm. Airplane mode did nothing, finally rebooting and I have 3G back. I think I'm done messing around with this phone. I've given it a week, but it is just not reliable enough for me. A shame really, there are things about it I like more than my Fascinate for sure, but it's not worth spending my money and upgrade rights on.

Perhaps the Bionic will be better? Hopefully it's a network or software issue and not a problem with the radio. I know the Tegra chipset does not have it's own radio, so I anticipate the Bionic will have the same Qualcomm MDM9600 radio in it as the TB does. Just a guess right now, since the Atrix has a Qualcomm radio inside. Motorola is known for good reception and antenna design, so who knows?

Just saw a big thread on another forum about tons of people having 4G problems this morning, so maybe there was a network issue? In the meantime, the Blackberry has stayed on 3G all morning, as ususal, and the TB has bounced back to 1X and back to 3G twice more. Weak.

there was. Guys I think verizon was well aware of the problem this morning I had no signal, and now I have better then ever 4g signal inside my house. I am finally starting to like it. My phone would constantly drop 4g inside my house, but I had submitted a ticket and I think a lot of other people did that too. Ever since yesterday morning my signal inside my house was getting better and better, well I should actually say around my house since I got very bad service around a mile radius from my house.

Today I have had the best 4g service since the first two days. I think verizon knows the issues and is working at fine tuning their network. I have been using the phone as a hotspot for the last hour inside my house and I could never use that before.

I had data connection issues and exchanged my phone and it got worse. I am thinking of returning it before my 14 days are up as this is a deal breaker. My old phone (HTC Eris) never lost data connection at home.

Local VZW store said a national tech support email went out this afternoon regarding TB problems switching and dropping data. Email said the fix is on the network side and the phones have to be hard reset after 1PM mountain time to be fixed. Sounds fishy, but maybe worth a try. I was returning my TB when they told me and thought I should give it a shot. I'd already switched back to my Fascinate, and would need a new SIM, so I declined, but those of you still with one may want to give it a shot.

This sounds suspiciously like the post in [This Thread]. Even including why it would "work" after a hard reset (which isn't' necessary). And... no there is no "fix software" involved. Do you think the "national tech support email" was taking the easy way out by not having to actually describe the circumstances?

The problem I'm having is when I'm on a wifi connection for a long time (at university in CA) and turn off wifi I do not have any indication of 1X, 3G, or 4G even though before I turn on wifi I'm getting solid 4G...it is not 100% of the time but more often than not...a reset fixes it but annoying

Fixed

I know this sounds strange, but I was able to resolve the issue by doing a factory reset from the SD card menu. Even after performing a factory reset from the bootloader, the problem persisted. For some reason, the SD card menu reset actually worked. Give it a shot!

Same issue here in Charlotte NC. The phone constantly goes from 4G to 3G to 1X. Now I have no data indication and can't use data. The phone works and text messaging works but no internet connection. Clearly this is a system wide problem and rebooting, SIM resets and master resets are all band-aids. The problem will come back. I guess we are back to Windows 95 days... Three reboots a day keep the tech support teams away...

Just keep your phone in 3g mode (several threads talk about it) and your reboots are gone. We just need to be patient with the 4g network to become more reliable and the apps to update their software to be compatible with the 4g network.
