Where is the 4.3 Update for the Verizon Galaxy S3?

Definitely thinking about going Motorola next time. Can't beat Verizon's coverage around here so going to have to stick with them. But I can at least get a company that seems to be serious about updates.
I know it's not all Samsung's fault. But they sure did take their sweet time getting 4.3 ready for the s3 delaying it even further knowing that Verizon would take their sweet time.

Quote from the article. We are evidently the "some carrier" the author refers to.
"The rollout had been resumed only a few days ago. The update is being rolled out in phases so don?t worry if you have not received the update yet, you will receive it soon. If your device is from some carrier then there could be delays as the update will have to be customized according the network first."

I think I figured it out! Its all a conspiracy. I realized that on their site and on twitter Verizon is constantly pushing IPhones and other ICrap Products. And barely ever Android products. So their plan is to hold out updating Android devices in the hopes people will get frustrated waiting for updates and will switch to the Iphone! I KNEW IT VERIZON HAS JOINED THE APPLE CULT!!!!

Disclaimer: For anyone who takes this as a serious post, you should probably get off the internet and go get some fresh air!

They don't need to push Apple products, these issues with Android basically advertise for them. Everytime someone hears a phone on Android takes a 9 months to get a 10 month old OS release (for example), they consider what that turn-around is on other platforms. As much as people berate iOS 7, guess what - any Apple user who wanted it had it the day of release or the day after (since their servers were swamped). Almost all Windows Phones 8 have had GDR2 for like months now.

The skinning and customization is an issue but it's something the OEM and carrier should have considered when they developed the device. Even then, there is no guarantee that a stock Android on a carrier would get fast updates, as the Galaxy Nexus has clearly proven... Google's updates are faster, but there have been some fairly severe security exploits and performance/stability issues in some of those updates, which a Carrier likely would use to hold off on an OTA, anyways, so that's not a good retort...

When Windows Phone 7 first released one of the biggest selling points was the better update/security patch/bug fix turn-around compared to Android (read their forums from around that time frame). Windows Phone 8 is living up to that promise, thus far...

Again, profit margins on Android devices are higher due to the way the Carriers can bake their services into the FW (which Verizon is very liberal with doing), so it makes literally no sense for them to actually discriminate against Android that way.

Why do you think Carriers carry SO MANY Android devices, even multiple versions of the same device, basically? There is more potential money to be made there than on Apple iOS and Microsoft Windows Phone devices. Apple doesn't allow bloat ware AT ALL and Windows Phone limits the number of apps you can put on the phone, forbids carriers from integrated their services at the OS level (the way Verizon does with their Backup service, AT&T Address Book/YPMobile, etc.), and mandates that they are all uninstallable - which takes literally 2.5 seconds on that platform.

There is no conspiracy.

The carriers actually stand to lose more (as in make less) money by switching people to iPhones.

The only reason why a lot of them want it is because:

1. iPhone users tend to use more data than users on other platforms - data is revenue. iMessage isn't a problem for Carriers because of the way they have bundled their SMS packages in with other services (like Unlimited Mobile to Mobile on traditional plans, Rolled into Mobile Share, etc.).

2. Not having it meant that users had incentive to stay on their carriers and not switch to them.

On the flip side... They cannot bundle their services on an iPhone, which means they cannot profit from them unless the user actually searches almost specifically for them. This is different than on a Galaxy S3 (VZW) device, where if you tried to tap a pin in a map sent to you over MMS the device is hard coded to open it in VZNavigator (and only VZNavigator). Verizon Cloud Backup built into the phone, etc. The phone can be set up in such a way that raises the chances that the carrier can monetize the user. Verizon has deals with Amazon to preload their services on some devices. The GS4 comes chock full of Amazon apps (App Store, Kindle, Audible, Amazon.com, etc.). Android can be monetized in ways that other platforms simply can't. Money talks.

Speaking of people who just use what they have and don't care... You'd be surprised at the number of people I've seen who pay for value-adds even when things like Google Maps are on the phone and cost nothing simply because of the way the carriers have set the phone up. They make money this way. That's why they do it.

Additionally, iPhone subsidies are often much higher than Android devices, so the carrier actually doesn't make as much money from the device sale as this higher subsidy cuts into their post-sale profit margins.

Updates on Android just suck. They suck more on Verizon because Verizon goes out of their way to make monetize their users - much further than even AT&T.

She said it just popped up the other day telling her to update and that she hasn't had and problems or anything since the update

Hey I'm over from the xda forum and was wondering if their was any chance if you can ask you co-worker if you could see her phone again to get some pics of her about phone info in settings?

I believe you, my fiancee got the update too but I asked her to defer because it's not a release but a test release.

Any chance you could join us in xda to try and get the update dumped? I know how your loved ones can be they don't want you messing with their phones but if you can ask her please from me (all of us) if she would allow you to tinker with her phone for a bit?

I thought this thread was about the update? Lol

Thought wrong.

It was then it was hijacked several times for topics that were un related the original post. It is filled mostly with trolls now.

I come to this thread to get information on the 4.3 update but this thread has been hijacked so many times, it's freaking ridiculous! Do you want the mods to get involved again? I believe that they've already been involved at least a couple times that I've seen on this thread so far. I have no problems with people expressing their opinions but when it degenerates to something that really shouldn't be on this forum, that's where my problem is. If I remember right from reading the rules of this forum, you are not supposed to be hijacking threads in the first place. By the way, I don't know of any forums where hijacking threads is allowed. If there is one that let's hijacking threads happen, please let me know so I can stay away from those.

I saw some of the posts on this thread and just had to get this out of my system. If some of you think that I'm being too uptight, then that's your opinion but this is how I feel. I'm getting frustrated at the twists and turns that this thread has been taking since it was created. I come on to this thread to get useful information on the 4.3 update only.

Yeah if I see her today I will definitely try and get pictures of the phone info. I have no doubt that it's the update on her out at least a soak test cause she definitely isn't into rooting and roming lol

All the Verizon techs that are posting on their support forums are saying the update isn't even out yet. No one knows about this update except 3 (?) people (only one who claims to have gotten it but couldn't be bothered to post a complete screenshot of the build etc., one who said he seen it on another phone, and another who said they got an update notifications but doesn't even know what it supposedly is for...)...

Maybe I missed a couple... I know there was one on the Verizon forums saying he got it, but he was posting in the wrong forum section (the One's 4.3 OTA started going out the other day :-P ).

It's been over a week since the first one went out, allegedly, so it's a bit odd that so few people have reported getting it (across the whole internet forums/twitter/facebook/Google+/Instagram/etc.) even if it was a "soak test," which Samsung never does with their phones on any carrier.

The search results for this stuff are still the same as they were 2-3 weeks ago, on all major search engines.

It's cool if you don't believe me. I don't really have anything to prove to someone across the internet anyway and you really have no reason to believe me. I don't think she is working today but if she is I will post pics

It was more derailed than hijacked. The two terms should not be used interchangeably.

In any case, by now we should know that the update has pretty much not rolled out and there are two pages we should check if we want to know if it has started.

So let's review:
-This thread is titled "Where is the 4.3 Update for the Verizon Galaxy S3"
-No one knows
-Verizon is no help
-Every other phone except this variant has this update
-Everyone is frustrated
-People whine to much

Am I up to date now, or did I miss something?

Be on the lookout for VRUCML1. Verizon may be pushing this in small batches today possibly! jpreist, I've seen ya on the g+ gs3 pages wanting to know about this update. Hope this helps and hopefully this is what Verizon pushes today or very very soon.

The silly bickering needs to stop. Keep the discussion civil and on-topic. This is the second time that I've had to get involved in this thread. Further posts that are off-topic or otherwise violate the forum rules will be deleted and will result in the issuance of an infraction.

I suggest that those participating here acquaint themselves with the forum rules. Thread has been cleaned up.
