Where is the 4.3 Update for the Verizon Galaxy S3?

Actually back around the time the inc 2 and the thunderbolt was due to get ics they made a statement that going forward they were no longer announcing drop dates. They had done so previously.

Exactly, and every carrier has stopped announcing them unless the update was given to them pretty early and they had already been testing it for a while (i.e. pretty much done testing it), because consumers have shifted to expecting support instead of being sold a device and forgotten about. The GS update issues sparked a huge uproar with the device being released with an old version of Android and promised a quick FroYo update which ended up taking multiple months longer to deliver on basically all carriers (T-Mobile launched a buggy as hell version which needed multiple maintenance updates to tame because they got the most backlash from their customers).

Since Early-Mid 2011 carriers have generally stopped giving even dates except in the most vague form ("Sometime in Q2," for example) because word travels quickly and users start asking for the update. This was actually exacerbated by Google tying features to specific Android versions (i.e. Flash requiring 2.2) which they still do about as much as they ever have, BTW.

I think that speaks a lot to the reason why Android hasn't been able to dominate in developed markets (like the US) the way it has been able to in emerging and lower cost markets (where it gets market share for free due to the super cheap devices it is loaded on). People here spend a lot of money on their devices, know it, and want to be treated like paying customers. They aren't buying $179 phones. They're buying $500-700 phones. When you spend that much money, you're more willing to make concessions to be better supported, and I'm totally starting to feel where they're coming from.

Sorry, but something about a GS2 sitting next to a GS3 running largely the same FW and OS version doesn't sit right, when that device was launched a year ahead of it. And I'm about done "accepting" that devices will be behind by default and simply never get the latest updates. As long as a device is not EOL, any Android version released during its life should be given to it, IMO. That is the way Microsoft and Apple do things, and Blackberry as well. Only Android OEMs has this specific issue where they treat their customers like na?ve sheep.

Ultimately, it's up to the consumer market to decide what they're willing to put up with. I will vote with my wallet. This goes for VZW as well. "Premium Carrier" should offer a Premium User experience, and this isn't really meeting the benchmark.

Well then, do it. Bye Bye.

You don't look witty, and that doesn't sound witty. It makes me feel sorry for you, a bit.

I love how so many people on these forums want to be the bully and quasi-moderate them. It's so CUTE!

And some people think that threatening Verizon by going to another carrier is going to do any good.
Cute.

It's not to hurt Verizon, it's to enhance their own personal mobile user experience. Better support actually does that, you know.

I think you're suffering a bit of tunnel vision. Please try to use more of your brain's surface area...

This mess with OTA updates is why I threw in the towel, rooted and unlocked my phone and threw on a custom ROM... I'm running 4.3.1 currently and considering loading a 4.4 release candidate.

I understand the hesitation... I mean, Verizon has to satisfy a large user base... releasing an update that hasn't been completely vetted could lead to complaints and lost customers. The vast majority of VZW customers are just simple end users who look at their phone as an appliance, not a mini computer. No one wants a fridge that stops working every time you use the ice machine...

But I'll accept a reboot now and then if I can get a phone with a much more cutting edge look and feature set... Halo is an amazing feature that you won't see from a carrier for a long time...

Sounds like there are problems with the 4.3 update.

I do not necessarily trust everything that comes from Gottabemobile. His posts tend to be sensationalistic and without any attribution. Here, he makes several claims about 4.3 bugs, but doesn't really support the claim with any evidence. I've been viewing the AT&T version of this forum and the only error I'm seeing there is the download manager error: hardly a show-stopper. You'd think some of these other errors would be popping up where we'd see them more frequently.

Maybe it's just a matter of testing cycles... those can take time to complete. Maybe there was an issue that was related to VZW's stuff that required some changes and things to be retested. I'm as cynical as the next person, but if the update was ready, they would be pushing it out.

That's good to know. I never really heard of the site until I searched Google on the update. I hope the update comes soon then.

I'd rather wait for a solid update then one that is full of bugs....seems like I'm in the minority. Crying about the lack of updates won't make it came any faster...#firstworldproblems.

No that's the current version. Though 4.3 is supposed to hit us today.

Finding information as to what exactly is going to happen as far as the rest of us verizon users getting the update or not is a bit annoying to say the least. I'll feel more confident in saying this as more days pass that perhaps maybe we won't be getting the 4.3 update and they will hold out and give us the 'KitKat' update in the second quarter of next year. However thats not to say they may withhold giving us any update as a previous poster suggest that Verizon just wants us to upgrade to a newer phone.

Now, with all that said...It's very much disappointing how these companies are messing with us getting us to spend yet even more money on these phones seems like every other year, but its us the consumer that is very much at fault also for being so gullible and falling time and time again for these 'deals'. Meh, whatever im just ranting now but something has to change otherwise I feel this will just get worse as time marches on....
