My guess is that Verizon, being typically VERY cautious about fully testing releases before sending them OTA, realized that this release has had some major issues for other carrier's handsets. This likely led to longer internal testing before release. I don't expect to see the release before this coming weekend either. My thinking is that their tech support is probably being inundated with calls from customers setting up/having trouble with the equipment the bought during "black Friday/Cyber Monday" shopping, and adding a new, potentially problematic software release during this time might be more than they are equipped to handle. Working as a level 2 support analyst myself for the past 6+ years, I'd avoid shooting myself in the foot like that if it were me. I'm guessing late this week or next week sometime at the earliest, but probably before the week of Christmas...
