Where's Froyo for the Fascinate?

It's built in to the ROM for the devices that have it, so the only way we would get it is by an update

Strangely for the first time in a while I can say I have a good feeling about this week. Maybe personal, maybe it has to do with my fascinate, hopefully both but I have a good feeling.

i doubt this means anything. just because some galaxy s phones an update doesnt mean the fascinate will. i hope we will, but im not holding my breath. even if it does come out i dont think i will run until someone figures out how to root it and i can flash another rom. i really hate the stock feel.

Sorry, but Im with you on this one @gunnermike. They have been doing this to us for months now and I dont see that changing anytime soon. They cast, we bite and then they throw us back just to cast again.

Dan: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?

Visitor: I hope you can help me, I'm just wondering when 2.2 will be come available for the Samsung Fascinate US. I'm hoping it will address issues with my phone.

Dan: I understand that you have information about 2.2

Visitor: I'd like information about 2.2.

Dan: I will share with details present on my end.

Visitor: Thank you.

Dan: Unfortunately there is no update available at this time for your (phone model), nor is there an estimated date of one being released.

Visitor: :(

Dan: Our support team wil launch the update and test on demo phones.

Dan: Once we confirm that phones do not glitch or mess after update we release update to phones with respective carriers over the air,.

Visitor: I guess I'm confused, because the Canadian version of the Fascinate has 2.2..

Dan: Yes we have 2.2 released for Non USA customers.

Dan: We are trying to release the update with enhance features.

Dan: So we are being delayed in release of update.

Visitor: Yes, I'm looking for improved battery life.

Dan: I understand it.

Dan: Once we have update it will resolve all the exsisting glitches on the phone.

Visitor: The gps will have a fix?

Dan: Yes.

Visitor: I'll be happy to see that, I do use my navigation almost daily.

Visitor: It takes quite a while for it to lock on, even outdoors.

Dan: Igot it.

Visitor: I appreciate your time and info, is it probable to say within the month?

Dan: I am sorry we do not have time frame about release.

Dan: If I had any information I would have shared with you.

Visitor: Thank you

Dan: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

Visitor: No, thanks much

Just thought I'd post this.. chat ended minutes ago.

These reps sure are diplomatic...they should be in politics

I like this quote:

"Dan: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?"

He implied he assited you lol

i talked to vick today regarding froyo and the gps issue and now that vick has fixed my gps i can wait more patiently for froyo:

Vick: 1. Turn off the handset.

Vick: 2. Remove the battery and wait for 30 seconds.

Vick: 3. Reinsert the battery and turn ON the device.

Vick: Please perform the above the procedure and let me know the status.

visitor: while i am doing this, do you have any info available on when we could maybe see froyo on this device

Vick: I apologize, unfortunately there is no Android 2.2 update available at this time for your phone model, nor is there an estimated date of one being released.

Vick: We are unable to speculate when a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

visitor: but samsung has already put out unreasonable amount of false information regarding the update, you must know something

Vick: I apologize for the confusion regarding the miscommunication of Android 2.2 release from the Samsung Website.

Vick: Unfortunately, as of now Android 2.2 is not officially released in US.

Vick: However, it should be released in upcoming days.

visitor: "upcoming days" so would that be at CES

visitor: i am attempting to turn on my gps now

Vick: I would have surely helped you if I had the information regarding the issue.

Vick: Sure. Please go ahead.

visitor: still waiting for it 2 find me...

Vick: Okay. I will be waiting for your response.

visitor: "upcoming days" is that real or is that like before end of sept, end of oct, end of nov, end of the yr and upper management is having you guys string us along

Vick: I'm sorry, unfortunately we do not have the exact information on this. You would be notified once the release is official.

visitor: ok in other words dont get my hopes up.... gps still doesn't know where i am

Vick: I'm sorry to know that.

Vick: Let us try it the other way.

Vick: Do you have a Traveling AC charger with you?

visitor: yes

Vick: Please connect the charger to the phone, remove and reinsert the battery for once while the phone is charging. This might fix the issue.

Vick: Please let me know if you have any questions on the procedure.

visitor: how would that fix the gps issue that doesn't make sense 2 me

Vick: I'm sorry. This is the part of the trouble shoot that might fix the issue.

Vick: Please keep me posted once you are done with the procedure.

visitor: ok

Vick: Please let me know the status.

visitor: do i keep the phone on or off when doing this

Vick: I see that you need to keep the phone turn on.

visitor: should the phone have turned off when the battery came out

Vick: Yes. Exactly.

visitor: ok phone is booting up

Vick: Please check GPS on your phone once phone is turned on.

visitor: its "waiting for location"

visitor: got it

visitor: wow i doubted that would work hardcore... thank you

visitor: that took less than a min...

Vick: Glad to hear that it worked.

visitor: should it work like that permanently now

Vick: I appreciate your efforts to fix the issue.

Vick: I see that the issue is fixed now and it this will work permanently.

visitor: thank you so much vick, now i can wait more patiently for froyo now that my gps issue has been resolved

Vick: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?

visitor: no sir there is not, just tell your superiors to please hurry with froyo so flash can become available and my phone can be compatible w apps that require 2.2 (this # of apps is growing by the day)

Vick: Sure. I will forward the feedback given to my supervisors.

The canned replies they have make me laugh. I'm sure the "enhancements" they are working on are not GPS or Battery related rather they are trying to cram in all the VZ bloat that no one wants.

someone should contact samsung again and before they have a chance to respond to your questions, just post in one of their canned responses and basically have a conversation by yourself using their canned responses. do it!

Just got off the phone with Megan from Verizon support. Samsung will start rolling out 2.2 tomorrow for all of their Galaxy S Phones including the Fascinate for Verizon. OH HAPPY DAY

Please let this be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In fact I was posting this on my phone so let me add a little. I noticed that the Samsung site now has the Kies software download available for the Verizon Fascinate. So on my way to work today I stopped into a Verizon store and asked a guy named Mike what the deal was and he said that 2.2 is coming out tomorrow. I hesitated believing him and he repeated that yes it will be rolled out tomorrow, and not everyone will get it tomorrow but that it is starting tomorrow. So I called Verizon when I got in my car this afternoon while leaving work and got the same message from Megan.

So Lets see what happens.......If you get it tomorrow please post and let us all know.

I have downloaded Kies mini from the Samsung site here: Samsung

Thanks

It's doubtful that I'll get it tomorrow assuming it does roll out. I think my location is on the middle of the list for the OTA updates. Guess I'll be moving all the bloatware back on the phone in the hope of 2.2 aka FROYO!!!

And actually, we can pull the update. So it really doesn't roll out anymore.

And if it is true, I can't believe how quite they have kept this. Nevertheless, I'm going to put my bloatware back on and unroot just in case.

Out of curiousity, how would you go about unrooting? I don't think you have to be unrooted to receive updates, right?

About 10 minutes ago I had a Verizon Rep in my office updating/upgrading the the business phones for my company and thought I would throw out the question: "Do you know when 2.2 (Froyo) comes out for the Fascninate?"

Keep in mind he is also using the same phone..

His answer: "Have you heard of Gingerbread?"
Me: "Yes."
Him: "I have heard that it is coming out to the Fascinate around March of 2011."
Me: "I was under the impression that the hardware may not support that release."- now I am just having fun.
Him: Long pause~~ puzzed look.. "I have read that it is coming out soon."

At that point I stopped and realized he had less of a knowledge base than I do about this phone and he is just a salesman.. Soooo
If you go by his word: We get Gingerbread in March!

Edit: One of my office nurses just brought in her phone - it updated just now to DI01...
