VZW has to test/approve the update however. I'm sure Froyo runs great on a stock Galaxy S phone with no carrier firmware/software loaded on it. Even Gingerbread is running on the Nexus S. For all we know, Samsung has frozen their code weeks ago, and is waiting for Verizon to do their part; which is to bloat up the device with apps we'll never use.
You mean you didn't know what you were getting when your phone came with a giant V on it? Yes, verizon is slow and picky about updates. But we do know (with reasonable certainty) that samsung is still doing a code blitz on 2.2. If it were really in Verizons hands weeks ago, we would have seen a leak or two by now. It takes verizon about as long to copy the APK files for blockbuster and need for speed into the update as it does for us to root and rm -f them from the phone... If every US galaxyS model has froyo for several weeks except or us, then we can get pitchforks and head down to the Verizon HQ.
