Where's Froyo for the Fascinate?

so I see that the droids are getting updates from vzw today. I'm almost thinking it could be a bad thing that these updates keep rolling out for the DX, since they need to fix so much stuff.

I'd be lying if I said I don't wanna see froyo or gingerbread on the fascinate, but I do like the way the phone is performing right now.

Aside from the GPS issue, this is probably the most bug-free phone I have ever owned, especially Android based.

Yeah, only issue I've come across has been the GPS issues. Other than that I've been nothing but happy. Its also nice to have a large screen to type on vs the DINC.

DJ05 upgrade has eliminated the GPS issue altogether. So it would be safe to say that Froyo will make things even better. The only issue I'm having is occasional random force close pop ups.

Anyone else had the issue a repeated task manager pop up? It has happened to me twice now. The first time I was playing Baseball Superstars, and it popped up. Every time I closed it, it came back for a few minutes.

Last night it did the same thing while I was playing Angry Birds. My girlfriend's fascinate hasn't had the issue though.

Anyone else? Buehler?

I have not experienced this with any of the 3 Fascinates I've used nor have I heard of anyone having this problem before.

The Fascinate is by far the best phone I have used when it comes to hardware. I've used every iteration of android going all the way back to the G1. I think it's better than the Nexus One I had. It's just too bad that Samsung and Verizon can't manage to update this thing to Froyo. With froyo, you'd at least be able to use the latest google apps which are all very much improved over what is available for eclair. Samsung's previous issue with android updates should gave been a clue. I guess I gave them too much credit with all the effort they put into the their galaxy s series. What a shame...

Everyone keeps laying blame, but at this point it seems it's more the carriers fault than Samsung's.They've done their part, now we have to wait for our carrier to push it out.

Clak -- thank you. I've been conveying this message for weeks on the forums. Samsung has long had the FroYo update out to the carriers. It's on Verizon now, plain and simple.

Didn't the Canadian version of the phone also get Froyo recently?

Gotta perfect that Bing integration. Takes a bit longer.

Very happy this is finally happening and glad to hear 2.3 may be coming as well.

Is there confirmation that after the Froyo update that the user will be able to choose between Bing and Google? (sorry if this has already been addressed)

I've held off on rooting for this update and until there's Cyanogen mod or the like for the Fascinates the only reason to root would be to de-Bing (and kill the bloat).

well looks like late Dec should be the date, let's hope they can stick to it!

and I guess this would also be why they are holding off on releasing DJ05?

That was one of the topics covered in Verizon's official press release a few months back when they announced 2.2 for the Fascinate. Course they also said we would have it by November so we'll see how much of their word still holds true.

The hardware's fine. The reason that VZW's unwillingness to update firmware sucks is that it means you can't (for example) update to the current Gmail version. There is an increasing number of apps that won't run below Froyo.

Good question. Why would they release a maintenance release at this point, only to release Froyo a couple weeks later. My guess is that they will roll this into the release of 2.2.

So when Samsung said late December, did they mean late December when it's released to Verizon to do their thing?

that's what I was wondering too (and hoping not the case). I'm guessing since they released the vibrant froyo straight to the consumer that when they release froyo for us it will be straight to us and that vzw was already working with them to release it... at least I hope that's how it works

That's what my assumption would be. Ultimately its up to Verizon as to when exactly to begin rolling out an update, but thaley could br speaking on behalf as to when its actually going to start rolling out as well. Motorola has done that before, but who knows. I'm just hoping it actually is when they say it will be this time.

It's funny that the people that have phones with Froyo are already complaining and asking when Gingerbread will be coming out for their phones (cough Droid X cough). I'm still trying to decide if I should get the Fascinate or the X. I'd like the Fascinate but it seems like Samsung isn't showing any love for the device. The Droid X is tempting but why are people still complaining about it when they've had updates sent out left and right and have had Froyo for several weeks? I heard Froyo was coming out for the Fascinate in Oct, then Nov, then finally December. My upgrade is approaching soon. Hopefully (fingers crossed) it'll be out and then it might be easier to compare the Fascinate to the X since they'll both be on Froyo. I'm also hoping Froyo will fix all of the issues that I've read about on the Fascinate like the GPS.

having a lot of updates come out isn't necessarily a good thing. seems like they need to keep fixing things on the DroidX to make it work properly.

at the same time, not having any updates isn't good either since there are clearly things wrong with the fascinate like the gps, but no fix has come out yet for it. overall tho, even in it's current state, I feel that the fascinate is a great phone and I love it.
