Who is sticking with their Evo instead of upgrading to Evo 3d?

Although the Evo 3d is a beast of a phone I will be sticking with the OG evo, best phone I have ever owned. I don't take too many pics or watch too many vids on my phone so I don't really care for the 3d but I do think its a good move for the future. I want more of a jump like maybe ICS and a thinner design. I don't qualify for a full upgrade until May 2012 due to sprint changing their premier qualifications which totally blows but I'm sure I will be content with my Evo until then as long as the CM team keeps the evo up to date their latest builds which I'm sure they will.

+1 :-)

Got my Evo in December, like someone else said I'll be at the very least waiting 6 months before I upgrade to something that recently came out. Having said that, I don't see myself upgrading to the Evo 3D when I'm eligible but I guess it depends on what's available from Sprint and if the Evo 3D has a locked bootloader.

Having recently delved into rooting and flashing I can tell you I WILL not, if given the choice, buy a phone that is completely locked down. The Evo 4G is a beast but I was having lots of issues such as random restarts (GPS + Pandora at the same time for example), less then stellar lag in the UI, sluggish game performance. The straw that broke the camels back though was the gps issues I was having. CM7 quite literally has made my Evo 4g a completely different animal. That's not to say there are some issues (can't update PRL, clear GPS cache, and a few others without flashing back to sense and back to CM) but they are very minor issues that I can certainly live with. My Evo feels like a beast now.

So to add and recap, for me to ditch my Evo in 6months, phone would have to NOT be locked down, not be plagued with issues like the Palm Pre (phone gives me nightmares), BETTER battery life, and would have to take into account how my Evo is holding up. If it's still in pristine condition, I'm likely to forgo upgrading.

I love my Evo, and I can't upgrade until July 2012 since my premier status has changed. My husband might buy it since his upgrade is June 1st, but he also wants my phone.

Yeah the lock down has me a bit worried as well. While the EVO is capable of doing everything I need it to do in stock form, I tend to loose interest quickly in gadgets that can't be modified or tweaked. Being able to root and try out different ROMs is a big part of my Android experience and I'm not too sure how happy of a customer I would be without it. That being said, there is another contender fighting for my affection and if this thing comes to be just might pull me from the EVO all together...

Rumor: Sprint is finally getting a Tegra 2 Android phone next month – Android and Me

I haven't read the whole thread but I don't view it as an "upgrade". To me 3D is a gimmick and I sacrifice a much better camera. It appears to be a parallel move. To me an upgrade is when the current product is made better, faster, etc. Just one man's opinion.

I agree with your premise, that it's not an upgrade unless it's better, faster, etc.. but I'm just wondering why you think the EVO 3D isn't better, faster, etc...? Dual core CPUs seem to be better and faster than single core CPUs historically. Better screen, 1080p video record, 3D camera and video options. Just wondering how that's a lateral move in your eyes? I understand the camera MP is lower, but this does not always equate to worse pictures. Picture quality has more to do with how much processing a camera does to the image, versus how many pixels the image has in it.

Most ppl just need to be honest and say they aren't upgrading because they aren't eligible/can't pay full price for a new one.

I bought the Evo for the off contract price since I wasn't eligible for an upgrade at the time, so I'm already eligible for an upgrade. When the 3D comes out I will upgrade to it, sell my EVO and come December, purchase full price any better phones out there.

Definitely not the case for me. I buy more phones off contract that I'd like to admit.

I'm not going to upgrade to the 3D. I really wanted to but HTC locking the EVO down is going to make me look elsewhere. I think a Sprint Nexus 3 will be my next phone.

Sent from my HTC EVO 4G

I was going to wait but now with everyone doing the buy back program and can literally get the new Evo 3D for nothing straight across the board ... I must say though ... This is the first phone that I have had that has NOT made me want to run out and get the next new thing as soon as the year was up.

I'm pretty much in the same boat. I was going to wait for a while, but after seeing more and more of the specs on the 3D combined with the Radio Shack buy-back plan, I think I'm going to get on the pre-order list this week.

Ugh. I really wanted the 3D, but the signed bootloader has made me reconsider. I suppose I'll wait for the next hot unlocked phone from Sprint. So depressing.

i got my evo aug 2010. i aint changing till my contract expires.

this thing was ahead of its time i still enjoy it and should keep me occupied for another year, with the new ROMs when the OS gets updated.

besides id like to wait while the kinks get worked out on the new phones, plus im not a huge fan of 3d especially on a 4.3 screen.

I've been getting all the pieces together to qualify as a gold premier customer before the 3d release. Now between the signed radio and boot loader and the need for some exploit to jump out while in privilege mode, I'm getting near the f htc mode. No upgrade no nothing. Reactivate some old apple dev accounts. If I'm locked out it'd rather be locked out there.

The desicion gets more complicated with the Atrix coming as well as the Galaxy S II (Sprint Within). See the Phone Comparison.

If anyone lost their annual upgrade, try calling to see if they will give it to you one more time. Many have had success with that.

Worse case, pay the extra $20 or $40 a month for three months to upgrade to Gold. Get the phone and drop back to your old Silver level plan.

I've been with Sprint for more than 10 years so I qualify for annual upgrades. The only reason I would upgrade to the EVO 3D is for better battery life. As far as I know that's not something we'll have conclusive evidence about until it's been out in the field for awhile.

While the phone does seem like a nice upgrade otherwise, it's just not enough for me to bother considering my near-launch EVO has been rock solid running Warm Two Point Two RLS5 previously and now CM7. The EVO 3D being locked down is another reason I won't upgrade unless HTC changes their mind about it all.
