And there lies the solution. Buy a Note 9 or keep your Note 9. Samsung doesn't owe anyone the same form factor from series to series.

Maybe hole punch haters with be happy with the Note. Problem solved.

The sales slow down is due to market saturation and manufacturing quality getting to the point where devices don't need to be replaced every two years.

I'd say this is a bigger reason than longevity. Extended warranties are usually a waste of money, but I've started making an exception for smartphones.

That's a valid point. I understand that many feel the hole looks better than the notch. I even tend to agree with that (although I would also be okay with neither - and back to bezels), but the hole seems to come at the expense of LED and Iris scan. Is it worth it? If you don't use them anyway, I guess it's a good trade off. Otherwise, not so much...

That's a valid point. I understand that many feel the hole looks better than the notch. I find it hard to believe that they couldn't find a way to integrate them into the whole punch.

I could tolerate that, even with the inconvenience of the new fps.

You can in settings black it out with the rest of the notifications

Then you get a giant black bar on the top of the screen. Which takes away from the screen size.

You find a notch which is 20x the size of the holes we're talking about to be less noticeable or intrusive than a small hole(s) on the top right of the screen?

That's a real head scratcher.

The hole punch doesn't fit with the symmetry of the design. Its just a hole off to the side of the screen. With the notch you get symmetry, from each edge you have same distance to the notch itself. If the notch was to one side I would absolutely hate it but its perfectly centered unlike a hole on the right side of the screen.

That's fine if you feel that way, but it's really a matter of preference and it depends on how the notch is laid out with features. I prefer something on the edge. There is room for improvement on the notches. As an example on the pixel they could eliminate the front fairing speakers that would reduce the size of a notch and the bezel at the bottom. Of course some people can't live without front firing speakers.

I too prefer the hole to be in the corner. For games and video in landscape, I'm so used to logo's, etc, being in corners that my brain hardly even notices them anymore Movies almost never use corners for anything important, but you'll sometimes have characters, places, or objects that exist on the edge.



Is a notch preferable here? I'd prefer to turn my phone so there is a hole punch in the bottom right.

That's the whole point of a topic about the hole. Even left the misspell as tribute. The 10+ has a hole, curved edges, and curved corners. Trifecta of display evil!

At least my beloved N9 only has curved edges.

I think the hole is better looking on the homescreen but not good for YouTube video but the notch is better when watching video because the video will stop under the notch (on my OP6)

If you compare to iPhone the hole is much better than the notch.

You're right....the hole is much better but that's from your perspective. Someone with the opposite view is also right. This applies to any feature debate.
