Who's buying the Pixel mostly for the stock Android experience and fast updates?

Exactly. Google blocked YouTube from the Amazon Echos. Word is Google has a similar product on the way so no YouTube for Amazon. Talking about HIMARS fired by Google. Amazon is like what can we do to resolve this issue? What rule did we violate? Google went completely silent and didn't even respond. They are straight savages at Google. Google lures you into their ecosystem, then cut you off and watch you slowly decline.

Has anyone ever used Tizen? Would you use a pure Tizen phone?
Amazon also blocks their services from being used on most Google products. Example, Chromecast.

Chromecasts sold > Firesticks sold
Play Movies & TV > Amazon Video
(Google was first to have UHD/4K movies) Chromecasts can stream 4K.

I have a 75 inch Sony 4K. Purchased a 4K Chromecast for traveling purposes, but gave it to my girlfriend. I still prefer my Sony. My girlfriend has a smaller tv but the 4K quality is astounding.

I've only used it on my Gear S3. I wouldn't use a pure Tizen phone just because of the app situation. I'm not very dependent on Google services though so if the app ecosystem was there, I'd try it. That's probably never going to happen. Android and iOS are pretty much too big for anyone else to break in in any meaningful way.

I don't know if Play Movies is better than Amazon video. Amazon video has original content and it comes with Amazon prime.

I was talking about a Samsung phone with no Android services on it, not sure how Amazon got in here. I feel the opposite about Google actually. They go out of their way to include just about everyone in their ecosystem. It's a benefit to them. More folks using Google stuff the better for Google. As someone mentioned Amazon won't sell the Chromecasts or Google Home on it's shopping site. There is no Google Play Movies on FireTVs (Though Google wants and has Amazon Video on it's Android and Android TV products). As for blocking youtube, maybe it's because of some future competing product? Maybe it's because they cut off ads from them on the Echos? Not sure

In any case, this was in response to buying some potential Samsung phone in the future that would have no Google services on them and how a future buyer would struggle without all the Google services and without the Google Play Store. I think Google offers excellent products (GP store, Gmail, Maps, Photos, etc, etc) and has an excellent OS (Android) and I think that is the "lure".

I can watch all of my paid for content through YouTube. Don't need to download anything at all.

I can watch my paid for content on Amazon's website without downloading anything at all. I can also watch content that I don't own as well. I don't see your point.

Didn't we just have an article about how much of a security nightmare tizen is?

Google had a good reason to block YouTube on the Echo Show. You could not sign into your YouTube account, you could not like or share anything and the most important for Google it wasn't showing ads. I'd say those are pretty good reasons for El Googs to block it.

Always buy the latest Google and Apple phone as my main phones because those two provide the best software experience with regular updates. Software experience is pretty important for me. I do get other flagships thru out the year but they are never my main phone and do sell them after few weeks/months. iPhones and Google phones are the ones which stay with me.

My last Google phone was a nexus 4. Then I went to LG and most recently I got a Samsung (S7) to see what the fuss was about. My best case scenario would be a Pixel made by Samsung :)

The hardware by Samsung is sexy and premium feeling. But my ocd is getting the better of me. I don't like using apps knowing a Samsung version is sitting there taking up space on my phone for no reason. I tried using stock Samsung but Google are so integrated with each other I couldn't drop Google Calendar or Inbox for example.

I've had a LG G6 since May and I absolutely love this phone as my daily driver. The camera is stellar, software is smooth, battery life is great, and hardware is more than adequate to handle whatever I'm doing. I themed my G6 to look more like a Pixel, but for some reason, I want the real Pixel.

I'll admit, I'm a Google fanboy, but I don't discount other phones without looking at them objectively. There are alot of great phones out this year, but none of them offer the stock Android experience with quick updates.

Are stock Android and quick updates enough to pull me away from my G6? Because the G6 is actually very close to stock. There needs to be more....squeeze for Assistant, portrait mode in-camera (perhaps this is entirely software that can be had later on the G6 with the Google Camera APK) 64gb-128gb internal storage.

I'll pre-order and wait to find out what the experts have to say about its features.

Depends how much you care. In the past I never cared about updates but as I have gotten older I actually see the value in having security updates + bad things patched fast. That outweighs the "woo" factor for me of other phones. Not saying they aren't good .. My S8+ runs pretty well (and the G6 I had before it). I just look at it like the Pixel can be my amazing phone + camera + have the greatest security and latest software (such as O right now).

In terms of security on Android devices, I haven't been reading up on threats and vulnerabilities. I've never experienced malware or a virus (at least that I know of). When it comes to safeguarding personal data and privacy, I agree that it is way more important than any feature. Thanks for pointing that out.

No they do not. Amazon pulled support for Android TV's and set top boxes years ago and this is still the case unless something has changed in the last couple months. Maybe you can still stream from your phone/tablet? I dont know. I havent bothered trying because of the lack of Android TV support from their app. I considered, for a very short time, subscribing to prime mainly for their video streaming, but immediately retracted my consideration when I failed to be able to download the app to my nexus player to watch on my living room TV, and I refuse to add a new, unnecessary device to my ecosystem just because Amazon throws a hissy fit about it's services running on non-amazon devices.

Amazon makes me salty lol.

OK thanks for the update. I haven't got on my Android TV for a year or 2 now, so I guess I was out of date.

Anyway, we're in agreement I think. Google wants their stuff everywhere, Amazon everywhere but competitor's products for the most part. I love Amazon Video and their products mostly. It would be great if Google and Android co-existed a bit better.

Anyway, it's almost Pixel 2 time!!! Enough of the preliminaries!!! :-)

The NVIDIA Shield TV supports Amazon Prime Video officially for the last couple of months, not sure about any other Android TV boxes or sets.
