Ya something doesn't sound right about those phones but good luck with your Apple.

Re: Switch to Apple from android

There are way too many open variables here to draw any kind of conclusion in the iOS -VS- Android war.

I too have been very impressed with my wifes iPhone 6s+. As you point out it runs cool, efficient and she easily has 60-70% battery left by bed time. I would consider her a light user in the day and a moderate user in the evening... emails, txt, low graphics games, etc. Pretty sure she leaves her screen brightness cranked up to 100 all the time too. She can easily go ~2.5 days if she just uses it for light duty voice and txt messaging. I absolutely give it that... out of box, no tweeks required battery life in her case has been excellent. If she took the time to dim her screen indoors it could go longer I am sure.

You can't deny how efficient the Apple closed ecosystem is. From the handset to the OS to the leverage Apple has on its carriers (USA), to the apps... everything is done the Apple way. Sure there are some inefficiencies here and there. But overall and relatively speaking its smooth. I commend them for keeping the carrier dogs in a short leash. While Android is at times hindered by carrier bloat, spotty OS updates, carrier in-store customer support, malicious questionable party apps...etc.

That being said, I get very good battery life on my LGV10 with similarly moderate use. I definitely do have to turn my screen brightness down though. Which is OK, since I find its screen too bright anyways. I also have to monitor my various apps background battery usage. Any rogue app that sucks battery in the background gets deleted or defeated. Facebook, Amazon and various Verizon carrier bloats were the worst offenders. I run Amazon in a www browser and Facebook in the tinfoil wrapper app. With all my apps I restrict their access. On that note, you really have to be careful what apps you install. Many are just a "front", they are really there just to collect personal information about the unsuspecting user. For that I find these forums and the moderators invaluable.

At a glance it sounds like you had some rogue apps running out of control and killing your battery.

Maybe I did have some rogue apps. But that goes without saying I have a hundred apps installed on my iPhone and it gives me no issues whatsoever

Re: Switch to Apple from android

Yeah IMHO the application infrastructure is probably the biggest hidden difference... TIGHT controlled Apple approved versus open source Android. You just can't just download Android apps from any ol' www site or without doing your homework on them. But I knew this when I went away from the iPhone for the V10 back in December.

There most definitely ARE advantages to open source though. Most notably, enthusiast developed advertisement-free apps. A few of which I have been using with great success. Can't do that on Apple.

I don't think that "goes without saying" at all. You don't have to run rogue apps all the time, and you definitely can chose to delete/defeat those particular apps that siphon more background battery than others, as I have learned to do.

YES Android does run apps in the background using RAM. Thats how it runs as fast and efficient as it does. But there are ways to go about which apps to run and which ones not to run.

But to go back to the original topic... They are just different. If you want a relatively safe (as far as battery management goes) albeit somewhat restrictive environment go with iOS. If you want flexibility in an open source environment and some degree of risk risk go with Android. Lets just say my wife and I benefit from both in our own ways.

You are right! Android RUNS a lot of background apps in the ram. While ios PAUSES/STOPS the background app until you use it again. This makes ios more safe than android. Android needs some trial and error before getting the most out of it.

I had the s6 edge plus and got rid of it right away bc of the battery life compared to the iPhone 6 Plus. Although I liked the phone better, the battery life was horrendous. Hoping the s7 edge has better luck.

I have an iPhone 6s Plus that I am waiting to sell if I decide to stick with the s7 edge. I always end up going back to iPhone and I'm hoping this time I stay away. It's so boring and it weirds me out to use the same phone as my 93 year old grandmother.

So far s7 edge can not keep up in the battery life department. But I expected. 6s+ is the best battery life I've had on any phone. Going to give it time. So far battery life is my only gripe. But I havent had it a full work day yet. Time will tell.

I wake up at 6:30, go to the gym where I use my iphone 6s plus to play music via bluetooth. I then go to work till 5pm and go to bed at 10:30pm with about 15-20% battery life on the iphone and thats with a good amount of usage. Don't believe the s7e will beat that. Like people have said the iphone's standby time is amazing.

Yep I know. Im feeling the pain now. This is unbelievable. Im sitting here with 22% battery left and my screen on time is only 1hr 37m 57 sec. Android System is using 41% of the battery smh. And I havent really been using the phone much. This may be a deal breaker for my uses. But will give it a fair 13 day chance.

I got this phone and I'll be putting up my 6s plus for sale tomorrow! The battery life on the plus kicks the crap out of the edge, but i love everything else.

Re: Switch to Apple from android

Never understood why folks come to an Android forum trying to convince others to switch to Apple. IPhone are know to have lag and bad battery at times for many iPhone users. In the end it's all just personal preference.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything, mate. Just putting out my honest opinion.

Android phones are not just by Samsung. You can try the other ones of HTC or Motorola. They provide great battery pack up. I have used iPhone personally but once you get habitual of the iPhone, there is no going back. You just can’t. And people who cannot afford this elite phone every year would need to stick to the Android phones only. Android does not put you under the pressure of buying the latest phone every year. With Apple you have to maintain it.

By safe i mean, rouge apps are less at iOS than at android. Not about security. Its "safe" for the battery life.
