Why are people buying a SCREEN PROTECTOR??!

Glass = Glass... Doesn't matter whether or not it's "Gorilla" glass... Screen protectors work wonders... Zagg invisible shield till the day my EVO is trash compared to mainstream "superphones"

True that! No matter what, glass can be compromised. All it takes is a little grain of sand or any random unfortunate incident. I like to keep my my investments protected. I've put invisible shields on both my EVO's and they're working out great. Not as rubbery as the one on the pre.

Guys...

HTC has said that HTC Evo is made with Gorilla Glass. I will call them right now to confirm.

Will edit in just a few minutes! :-)

Edit:

Waiting time was "more than 25 minutes. So I conveniently hung up.
I did send them an email, however. Now, we wait. Although I am sure someone else already asked HTC about this and they replied with a very solid "Yes, the Evo screen is made of Gorilla Glass."

Go to any store with glass counters and then tell me u don't need a screen protector because glass won't scratch. Car windshields are tempered glass and they scratch. I'll be using a screen protector until they coat screens with diamond. :)

WTH does it matter if certain people use screen protectors.. I tend to sell my phones later on and like them in damn near perfect condition.. All screens tend to get small scratches on them sooner or later so thats why people use them..

So, does the Evo have glass or plastic screen?

Please provide link or source claiming the Evo has a glass screen.

It's well known that the screen is glass, but the argument is whether or not it's Gorilla Glass.

It's definitely NOT plastic.

Man, that's good to hear the screen is glass. I wouldn't give a crap if it's gorilla or not. Sprint rep told me the screen is plastic. Anyway to confirm if it's glass or not by not breaking it? Any source?

There is a thread somewhere on this forum where a guy's wife broke her screen. One look at the picture and you will know it's glass. Plastic doesn't shatter like that.

I couldn't find anything on youtube showing it, but feel free to break yours and take a video. lol j/k You can watch any of the scratch tests and tell that it's glass, though, because plastic would scratch way easier than that.

For some reason, I couldn't post the link to the actual thread, but here is the photo. Totally glass.

Glass will scratch. Try a bit of sand + a random object in your pocket with phone. The scissors are strong but not hard. Rocking the zagg -- occasionally I get that rubberized feeling but that's the trade-off. Seems like a small price for a big benefit. In fact, I've never felt the glass screen ... I installed it before ever touching the screen! lol

Don't touch it. If you do, you will have trouble going back. Luckily, my wrapsol feels almost identical to the naked screen so I can handle it.

Its made out of friggin Gorilla glass... all these stupid screen protectors ARE A SCAM. You will sooner rip the screen protector off than scratch your evos screen. Furthermore, there is no such protector that helps with oil. The oil residue (which we ALL naturally produce on our bodies) will come into contact with whatever you are touching. It will not magically vanish into thin air because of a plastic screen protector.

Cmon guys... do your homework. Stop aimlessly spending money on crap.

Take a look at Corning's own video, the maker of Gorilla Glass. They even say in the video that the glass is "scratch resistant" but it can get scratches. It may not scratch as easily and the scratches may not be as bad. But to me, a scratch is a scratch. If I can prevent a scratch with a $10 screen protector then that is money well spent to me.

Gorilla Glass

Edit: Watch the video from around 1:30 on.

Everyone here is way too protective of a phone! Just sit back and enjoy your Evo the way it was made! Besides if you really scratch the screen bad enough just pay the 100 bucks and get you a nice new referb.

I would rather pay $10-$20 for a protector. Save $80 or so and have a clean screen.

Why bother watching that video when it's not even Gorilla glass?

I don't think anyone has been able to prove whether it is or isn't Gorilla Glass. From what I have seen, neither Corning or HTC will publicly disclose that information. One thing that I think has been proven...Even if it is not Gorilla Glass, it is a comparable product.
