So are you saying that if you spec out a 4" 1024x768 IPS display for your phone, it will cost the same as a a 4.7" 1024x768 display?
Another example. Lets say you decide to build and sell an Arduino. You can either :
1 - use the reference spec, and make a generic Arduino.
2 - redesign the logic board layout, maybe for more access to IO or to make it more compact, or for a specific application.
3 - Add more features via additional chips for IO - combined with #2. This requires testing and coding well beyond #2.
4 - design your own chip to integrate features you want
Anyone with moderate means can do #1. An individual with time and skill can do #2 and #3.
You need major cash, expensive tools, and a team to do #4.
So do you still think design has no cost?
