It's a great phone, I had one for a while and kinda miss it
I seriously doubt that. It's certainly not true from what I have seen personally. My S3 worked better than my S4.

I guarantee your S4 took better pictures. Especially lowlight.

I spoke wrong. I meant that the S4 had more lag.

I am a #WinPhan meaning I am a WP fanboy, I also like androids and I know they dropped the licences cost to zero and the requirement to have a dedicated camera button in their latest attempt to attract more OEMs. WP is a great OS, so is android, and iOS. The build quality of the S5 is cheap feeling plastic, but like most doesn't really matter because they use a case to protect it, same as the M8. I like this phone, but it really feels slippery in my hand, not to mention small, seeing how my favorite phone is the Lumia 1520.. When I bought this phone the choice was between the S5 and the M8. The M8 won out for two reasons, prior ownership. I liked the M7 I use to own, but hated the crappy S3. I think that US Cellular just bought a bunch of Samsung rejects just to save money, and tried to pass them off as new. Second reason is I found a used M8 that was about $20 less than the cheapest S5 I found.

The S3's lag can be mitigated by forcing GPU rendering of the UI, which anyone can do in the developer optiosn settings. I have seen this first hand. It helps a lot.It definitely did initially. That's unquestionable. It improved and got roughly on par with the S3 which is still blown away by other Android devices. It was an absolute train wreck on release though.

I assume this would work on the S4 and S5 as well. It works on any Android phone but is especially noticeable on Samsung phones.
I'll try it on my mom's S4 when I visit this upcoming weekend and report results. My expectations are low though.

Have they ever been high?

Yeah and that's what angers me about them resting on their laurels and just expecting sales from doing little work they're not bad devices n will do the job but for the money they're poor especially with the price tag mid range quality high end price

It sounds to me like you're making your judgements based off of the material the phone is made out of. I love my note 2 and plan on getting the note 4 if its up to standard with specs and software. I looked at other phones and considered them but none of them do what my note 2 does other than a note 3. I personally like the plastic body frame because it allows me to swap out the battery and change the back plate of the phone by buying many different options different colors and materials without having to buy a case. Also, the plastic doesn't scratch just from sitting the phone on the table like those "premium feeling" aluminum devices you all are mentioning. If you drop an aluminum phone on the ground you can chip it so much that it can scratch your hand while holding it lol.
As far as TouchWiz, many people like it and those of us who don't we change launchers just like everybody else does on whatever phone they buy.

Aren't other android phones better? And significantly better? Well, two benefits galaxy does have are the awesome replaceable battery and expandable storage. For those two things alone in would buy a phone over phones that don't.
