I don't see anything at all in those screen shots that would be an issue.

How much SOT did you have? How much talk time on the phone?

It wasn't anything out of the norm, I don't recall exactly but it was something like 3 hrs on screen and maybe 1 on the phone. The thing is with light use like that I was at 35-40% at bedtime, now I'm out of juice around 5.

But I agree, nothing jumps out at me...except I'm burning through this thing at almost twice the Lollipop rate.

Today I'm at 30% at 6:00pm, with 3.5hrs on the screen and 1.5 on phone, again nothing out of the ordinary but about 15% below what I would be at normally at this time.

Is your screen brightness exactly the same?

And actually looking back at your screen shots, cell standby might be a little high. I know it's only 9% but I looked at some of my past screen shots for my V10 and mine was down around 2% on days that I had 15 hours up time and 6 hours SOT.

If you click on cell standby, do you have any time without signal?

Time without a signal is 0%

Yeah, nothing on mine jumps out either. It's like there's something going on that doesn't show up as battery usage.

Did you ever take screen shots on lollipop of battery usage for an actual direct comparison?

The problem with people stating light, moderate, heavy usage is that those terms are relative. You said light usage when you had 3 hours SO T and 1 hour talk time. To me that would be moderate. I mean you spent almost 20% of your entire day using the phone.

Without hard numbers, can you really tell if you had 2.5 vs 3 hours SOT?

Well if nothing jumps out to you and you want help, post some detailed usage screenshots and others can chime in.

My battery life improved loads after the android 6 marshmallow update. I used to get times when my phone went red hot and the battery just died, but haven't had any issues since the update and my phone lasts a lot longer with similar use.

A third factory reset fixed my battery woes. On the third time, I didn't choose the restore option when setting up my phone and just manually downloaded everything from the Play Store. My battery is now back to how it was before MM so no more complaints from me.

The fact that you have to go through 3 factory resets is unacceptable. At what point will Android/carriers/manufacturers stop rolling out beta tests to it's clients? What if you're not a member of these forums, like most people and have no idea what a FDR is nor the desire to even know of such a thing, how is this fair to them?

MM has crippled the performance of my phone and I've looked in many places that others or "non pseudo-techies" would have no idea of what to do and I'm still stumped.

I have no screen shots of Lollipop unfortunately. I had no inclination to do so since I'd get 3-4 hrs screen time and 1.5 minimum phone and go to bed with a consistent 35% every night, now the phone runs out before the end of my work day.

The area where I'm working has 4G coverage and I'm connected to wifi all day, easy stuff for this phone. I'm on the battery saving power mode, I don't have FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, or any social media interaction at all, no games either.

I did not want this update for the exact reason this is happening, I tried Moon's suggestion to block it but it didn't work. Now I have a supposedly premier phone that used to run in an outstanding manner running at 2/3 its former capacity. If you want to call it moderate that's fine, but I'm comparing it to my previous performance as a benchmark so "relative" is an accurate statement.

Re: Why is my LG G4 running Android 6.0 have terrible battery life?

My battery on my LG G4 is draining really fast since Sunday. It was a replacement phone that I started using Tuesday last week. The battery is lasting around 4-5 hours fully charged even when I'm not using it. looking at the battery usage. phone is quite high but so is phone idle.

I've tried the following:
factory reset no apps installed - still draining
I've tried different chargers (make sure charge not faulty) - still draining
Bought a brand new battery to test if battery was faulty but guess what - still draining.

Currently on charge on airplane mode. Only going up 2% every 20 minutes. My battery went from 100% to 30% within 3 hours.

Something not right with MM.

I installed MM last Tue (2/16). I had issues and did a FDR on Thursday evening. Despite that I continued to see significantly less overall battery life than I had with Lollipop. It was a drainage pattern I saw when I first got my G4 last June (it took me 3 weeks to figure out it was a rogue Fenix app because it didn't obviously show Fenix was a problem or even hint at it in other data lines).

This MM drainage was very similar and weird: reasonable SoT with way too low overall life. ~5H SoT, but only ~10H overall life. A weird combo, but as I said, I'd seen it before. In this case, there was nothing at all I could find to explain the drain (at least in June I knew *something* was giving me way too high Keep Awake times in Android OS).

With Lollipop I was getting 5 H 51 M SoT and 14 H 3 M overall right before the MM update, and the overall had even dipped some because (I perceived) the more recent versions of Chrome Dev seemed to be draining battery even faster than usual.

Then Wednesday hit. It seems yesterday, and so far (in limited time) this morning, I'm seeing drainage that is likely going to be more in line with Lollipop at its last readings for me.

Someone else (sorry I forget who) posted that their battery life suddenly improved at 1 week, and mine seems to have as well. I would think the FDR I did would have changed that time frame somewhat, but it apparently didn't.

I remember that post too, I'm hoping it works for me also. Just under 6 hours SOT is excellent, I'm sure I could have gotten that level of performance during the Lollipop days but never had a reason to be on so long.

Is Fenix the flashlight app?

No, it's a (really good) 3rd party Twitter app. I don't blame Fenix itself. I think it was a wonky restore of the backup via LG Backup. LG Backup isn't a perfect vehicle by any means.

Re: Why is my LG G4 running Android 6.0 have terrible battery life?

I was not seeing terrible battery life (Verizon G4) after upgrading to Marshmallow, but certainly worse than Lollipop. What ended up being the culprit for me was that Weatherbug application had some kind of wakelock issue with bluetooth. I had bluetooth on all the time for Android Wear. The phone would lose 5% to 6% an hour and never enter Doze.

Something told me to try running a day with bluetooth disabled and lo and behold it was like I had a new phone. Turned bluetooth back on and then it was subpar again. After googling a bit, I found that Gasbuddy, MyRadar and Weatherbug apps all throw wakelocks on bluetooth and is a known issue.

I uninstalled Weatherbug this morning, have had bluetooth on all day and am currently at 68% (usage on battery at 9h and 28min) with an estimated 19h and 22m remaining. SOT 1hour and 42mins so far.

Hopefully tonight I will see minimal usage with Doze kicked in.

I hope this helps.

Well, at bit better today, I'm at 53% at 5:15pm but with less usage; screen@ 2.5hrs & voice calls @ 43 minutes. I think I was at 15% with 20% more usage yesterday. Regardless of the usage, the power drop off curve was less steep for these activities than the past 4 days. Hopefully you're right and I can stay with the G4 for another year, even though it's too big for me it's not enough of a factor to jump to the S7 if this phone is humming along nicely. However the boot loop still looms...that'll be the final straw to the S7 for me, but hopefully my 505 hangs tough.

Re: Why is my LG G4 running Android 6.0 have terrible battery life?

I must be in the minority. After updating to MM on release day for Verizon, I noticed that my battery life was much worse for the first few days and then it leveled out. I typically would finish a 14 to 16 hr day at work with at least 50% battery left while on lollipop but on MM was running out by the end of the day and had to swap batteries. Was about to do an FDR yesterday but ended the day with just over 60% with about 2 hrs SOT (average for my daily use). Today I finished the same typical day with 74% and 1 hr 51 mins SOT.

All days for me have been pretty much the same with the same schedule in the same hospital and same usage pattern. So, I'll wait and see before doing the FDR.

Re: Why is my LG G4 running Android 6.0 have terrible battery life?

Here's what seemed to fix my drain problem. When I updated to MM, I was seeing the battery drain in 7-8 hours with no use on the phone at all, or 3-4 if it was used. I also was seeing the cell standby as the #1 user of the battery, in the area of 40%, sometimes more. I tried some of the suggestions of turning off WiFi calling, LTE calling, or any combination, with no luck. This went on for a week before I did a factory reset. No change.

So after a few days, I found the KDZ file, and using LGUP, I downgraded the phone back to lollipop. Problem solved; it was back to normal. I also had the OTA update waiting for me after just a few hours./

So after a few days, I tried again and allowed the phone to update. This time (3 days so far), the phone has battery life about what it was under lollipop, and the cell standby is usually in the 6-9% range. Clearly something didn't update properly the first time, and now it seems to be working.

This does not take away the fact that I'm tired of this and have spent way too much time messing with settings, trial and error, to fix something that I should not have have to mess with. Fingers crossed it stays working
