Why is everyone dissing the pixel 6/6pro?

Yeah December update made to worse for me. I just had to bite the bullet and rolled back to the November patch. Really can't wait until end of January for the next patch for reception to be fixed, especially with going back to work again this week. Can't have a phone where I can't reliably make/receive phone calls.

I'm really surprised that Google have taken so long to identify the issue and that they're going to take so long to release a fix. It's not some minor big, this is cellular reception.

Yes, it's surprising to me too that Google hasn't been on top of this issue sooner. Please keep us posted on what happens with your cell reception!

Google hasn't done anything right with this phone. If you have an unlocked phone on Verizon, you might not get any updates. It's a good thing in the end as the December patch is terrible.

I am on world wide November 5th, I never got the Verizon mid November, never got the December either. Looks like I got lucky.

I'm running with the unlocked Google store phone on Verizon with the December update and I have not seen a single issue on my end..

Yeah im still December no issues, maybe battery took a little hit but still manage whole day

I never got the chance to test. I am stuck on the world wide November 5th build. I set up my phone over wifi, so I will not be getting updates with out side loading.

Google really messed this phone launch up.

There should have been documentation that said that the sim being inserted was required and that unlocked phones would have issues with updates from carriers.

Unlocked P6 on att purchased from Google store. No issues here. I'm just not happy with not getting the security patch.

Please elaborate, I'm on Verizon, what's the issue? I

Easy. If you have the base c2 software, if you have your Verizon SIM, you will get the verizon November build. If you set up and update with no SIM, you will get the world wide update for Novemeber, and that's the last update you will get.

Google sends out updates, if you have an VZW IMEI phone, and VZW sim card, your updates will be seemless. If you have an unlocked phone and VZW sim card, you will get no updates as "the builds have not merged". You have to side load the Verizon update to fix it.

Google fixed this with the C2 by pushing out an update, since that, it's radio silent. They are letting Verizon make a crazy custom software requirement for these phones. Instead of Google controlling the updates themselves, you will be screwed.

Yes unlocked on Verizon, but I'm not on a Verizon build. I'm on 12.0.0 (SD1A.210817.037, Nov 2021) So why wouldn't I receive updates comming direct from Google?

"Because the builds have not merged". That's why. They are letting Verizon control the Verizon updates. Verizon has it's own update path. If you have a VZW phone, you start on this path, if you have the C2 base build, unlocked, they fixed it one time and one time only to get you to the VZW path. If you have the November 5th world wide build after November 5th, you did not get the VZW mid November fingert print fix, nor would get the world wide build because the update checks your sim, assumes you have a VZW build, and let's it wait until VZW pushes the update, which they won't, because they don't control the world wide builds, Google does.

If you go to the official forums, the experts are saying that you have to side load. If you call Google, they will tell you they have no knowledge of the issue, will check the forums, and then tell you to side load.

The hope is that they fix this mess this month, I doubt it, Google allows Verizon to bully them and screw up their software, unlike Apple who won't give Verizon any control of any part of its software.

OK, suppose I buy an unlocked Pixel 6 from the Google store. I'm on the Verizon network so I get a 5G sim card from Verizon and install it. Then I start the process of setting up my new phone. What's my status for getting updates?

I'm am really getting aggravated, with all the service issues I'm having with this phone. I literally can not have a conversation on the phone without the person going in and out and that's even on Wi-Fi calling.

That should not happen if you have adequate cell tower and WiFi service. My Pixel 6 Pro has been rock solid on both WiFi and cell service since the day I unboxed it 5 weeks ago.

Glad to hear that again....however many of us do not have adequate cell towers; I'm lucky to pull off two, and even when I am in areas with more than two, signals on my 4XL are weak; I can only imagine what they would be on the P6P. Hopefully, the update in Jan will fix; if it is, I might jump back on the P6P bandwagon and try ordering one again. But pushing off the update to late January makes me wonder why google is having so much trouble.

As for wi-fi that is one of the forthcoming fixes for the P6 as per google's list of late January upcoming fixes....

"Fix for issue causing Wi-Fi network to drop connection in certain conditions"

https://9to5google.com/2022/01/04/pixel-6-january-update/

And I'm just waiting to see if the fixes actually fix the issues. Then decide to try an order again or move on permanently from the Pixel world of phones. I hope the fixes do work, would prefer to remain with pixels, but have enough problems don't need any with a phone.

What's strange is that this was not a problem on my Nexus 5, 5x, Pixel 2, or Pixel 3xl... Always bought from Google directly and just kept swapping the Verizon sim from one to the next. Never had any update problems. Got them day one from Google. On the 6, somehow Verizon is in the loop. I don't know why.

I eliminated the problem of providers screwing up the Android OS by going with Google Fi.

I am one of those people affected by the reception issue with the December update and am waiting for the January patch to come through. Hoping it fixes the issue as well, but if it doesn't, like you, I'll move on from the Pixel. Not worth the hassle.
