Why is everyone dissing the pixel 6/6pro?

If the carrier connection issues started with the December update then I doubt the modem is the problem. Especially when rolling back to the November update fixes the problem, or the now closed Carrier beta version (reportedly) fixed the problem as well.
Not correct the connection issues were present on the pixel at launch they became more prevalent with the December update. Google is using a more than 1 year old modem in a phone that has subpar 5G performance and paired it with a single Samsung antenna on top of the phone. Those two things combined have been causing reduced signal strength and more dropped connections as well as significantly reduced performance all since launch.

The more prevalent issue might have been caused by the December update but the issue occurring since launch is 100 percent hardware

My Pixel 6 Pro never had or has connection issues. Even when it was on the December update connections were fine. No problems on the November update either.

You're one of the few that hasn't it's been posted about widespread since launch. I can guarantee your phone suffers from 5G performance as there's no escaping that issue

I'm glad you know my phone's performance better than I do. Oh wait! You don't. Speed tests prove you wrong.

Samsung's modem is not as good as Qualcomm's, it just isn't.

It's good enough for you, great. But no amount of you being happy with your phone can change reality. Denying that reality just makes you look silly.

You said "even when it was on the December update", if you didn't have connection issues then why did you rollback?

And your opinion doesn't change my experience. Nuff said.

Yup, no matter how bad you want it to a stock Honda Civic is not going to beat a stock Corvette in a drag race. You can't pretend or wish away a hardware limitation. With that said, you can however be completely satisfied with the Civic.

I don't get into all the limitations you guys are speaking of. I go by my real world usage. I have three phones and an iPhone 12 Pro or Samsung fold 3 and a pixel 6 Pro. All the phones behave the same way when I have my SIM. I haven't seen any slowdowns on the pixel.. slow connections. Slow downloads. It's acting like a phone should be.. I'm not saying it was the best choice or it's the best for everybody. I'm just going by my individual experience..

Me either. Mine had been great! That's all that matters at the end of the day.

From what I have read, google used the S5123 Exynos modem due to the Tensor being designed directly off the 2100 Eyxnos processor. Not a hardware designer, but from what I have read, might not be possible at this stage to integrate the 2100 with the X60 Qualcomm modem. So a recall to fix might be difficult, a recall for refund would be. Whether people like to admit it or not, the gold standard for modems for USA data traffic has been and still is (at time of typing this) the Qualcomm modems. Even Apple uses the X60.
For people living in areas surrounded by strong tower signals it might not be a big problem, for those without strong towers or a limited number of towers, it could be.
Hard to tell who and who does not have good data service as compare to the number of towers and/or towers that are strong. Not all towers are as efficient as all other towers.
I still hold hope for Google that they can actually fix the problems with a software update, and probably most of the bugs yes. But for many of us, the most important function of a phone is it is a phone.

You're right in that the Qualcomm chips use the X60 modem.

The Tensor processor, as you mention, use the Samsung designed/manufactured 5123. One issue with the modem is that it's no it integrated into the SoC which leads to additional power draw, increased heat and less performance. The X60 modem is integrated into the Snapdragon 888 chip.

The Samsung modem isn't a slouch though, it should be working fine. I'm thinking it's more a software tweaking issue more so than a hardware fault. Yes the X60 is better, but it shouldn't be leaps and bounds better.

I just think Google has blundered with the tuning of the modem. Fingers crossed the January update fixes the issues.

I called one of the top Verizon Denver System Techs whom I know, he came out to my home four years ago with his vehicle with seven antennas and laptop computer screen and we drove around the local neighborhood, monitoring and notating the reception stats on my then phone, a Note 8, comparing it to his stats on his computer screen. This took a few hours, he came into the house, from where I run my business, and we ran the stats from various positions there too. His solution was to tweak the needed settings on the nearby tower, improving my reception from the -103 to -114, improving it to the -85 to -93 range. Success! Had the improved reception on the Note 8 and Note 9 the last four years. Until... the Pixel 6 Pro arrived. Reception dropped considerably to the -103 to -117 range. Called him again, tower he said was fine, he double checked, it must be the phone I'm using causing the problems. And this is in the city, open space, 200 meters from the tower. On the roads around Denver and Rural Colorado, where the Note 9's modem reception excelled, the Pixel 6 Pro's... SUFFERS! A cell phone that cannot connect adequately under 'normal' circumstances and conditions is a phone that's handicapped. Add in the severe battery drain when the phone is constantly searching for a connection, AND THIS IS WITH 5G DISABLED in a supposedly 5G phone, why the heck did Google not test these phones out in the real world to see the phone's disabilities in actual use? The better question is... If they did test, and went ahead with the production and release with a phone whose reception is marginal for many at best, is Google guilty of fraud or something more serious? This is not an isolated issue at all. There's documentation all over, yet for the time up till the December Update that crashed and crushed many phones, Google never addressed with folks like me, the reception problems and battery drains... Due to the weak modem and accompanying software design deficiencies. To this day, Google told me there will be no refund. If this problem picks up traction, Google will have to address the problem like Samsung had to with the Note 7. Or maybe .. they won't. This is not some conspiracy against Google. Personally, all I wanted and still do, is a phone that connects well, that doesn't have the main marketing aspect...5G ... Disabled... and can go about my business, getting good reception with battery performance that parallels a 5000 capacity battery. I frankly have better things to do with life than being a beta tester for Google and posting long winded experiences of this phone that... Could become one of the great ones. Hey Google... are you freakin listening?

Can someone tell me if this is slow speed on unlocked TMobile 5G UC December update ?Screenshot_20220110-101223.jpg

Same IRL. My signal is good enough and is roughly the same on my pixel 6 and S21 ultra (it's an Exynos, so they have the same modern).

I just don't like when people throw up reality distortion fields and deny simple facts because they're inconvenient or uncomfortable. The signal on my Exynos devices is good enough... But it's stronger in my half decade old OnePlus 5.

Yes I get that most definitely..

So, to summarize, these are some of the issues a fair number of users are experiencing:

Sub-par Camera
Fingerprint Sensor
Network Connectivity
Overheating
Random Freezes/Reboots
Sub-par Battery Life
Screen Issues (Auto-Brightness)
Slow Charging

The Pixel 5 and 6 Pro were over-hyped by Google. Living up to those expectations has been a problem.
The Tensor Chip is NOT premium hardware. Yet. But then it's the first generation of a new processor. Expectations were high, partly because of Apple's (relative) success with the M1 processor. And Apple's own Bionic mobile chip has been a huge success. Just remember we are many generations into Apple's mobile processor. Not a fair comparison with the gen-1 Tensor, but that's where the public's expectations for Google are rooted.

Updates, or lack there of, is an Android 12 issue, not a Pixel issue. But it adds to the public's frustration with a phone that already has documented issues. To me, the monthly update seems like more of a cause to pile on to the complaint train. Many people with a fault free Pixel 6/6P are still getting agro about missing an update. My Pixel 5 is working perfectly so missing an update is moot. Personally I'd rather Android take the time to get it right than introduce new problems by issuing a faulty update. The obvious comparison is Apple's iOS but that's an unfair equivalence. Apple has the luxury of designing and updating for just a handful of devices, all made by Apple. Android has to work with dozens of hardware configurations and components by many manufacturers, all to get both the OS and updates to fit. That has to be orders of magnitude more difficult than what Apple faces.

I upgraded from a Pixel 3a XL to the Pixel 5, and I'll wait and see what becomes of the Tensor processor with the Pixel 7 or 8 before I make another move.
