Why is my Media & System volumes stuck on mute??

[Android Central Question]

I have a Samsung Galaxy A6. This a.m. I woke up & my ringtone & notification volumes are fine & I can control them (move the volume up or down). But the media & system volume are just stuck on mute. Cannot change it with the side buttons, on the touch screen, or in settings!!! I read other forums for different Samsung's & they said to install a Task Killer & close all open apps and that should fix it. It didn't. Any advice PLEASE??

Welcome to the forums. Have you tried rebooting the device?

Go to settings >sounds> volume tap
You can adjust the sliders or toggle the switch to control media with volume buttons

Yes, I have tried both. It's so frustrating, the media volume was working last night & this a.m. its stuck on mute! The side buttons wont change it, going into settings wont change it & I did restart it, but nothing is working.

Try in safe mode

This is what it looks like. Normally all the lines are blue (like the ringtone & notification volume) even if its turned all the way down.

I called Sprint (the sh*ttiest cell company EVER) & their recommendation is to go to a store to have it fixed.... gee thanks!!!!

Your Do Not Disturb is turned on. Try turning it off.

Don't worry about Safe Mode yet. Do you see at the bottom of your volume slider window where it says Do Not Disturb Turned On? That's probably why the Media is muted. Do you know how to turn it off?

My do not disturb has always been on (hate all the telemarketers)... I'll try it tho, to see if it shocks the volume back to life!

Also check the Do Not Disturb option in your system settings menu to see if you can adjust what is muted and what isn't when the option is turned on.

Ahhhhh!!!! Thanks for recommending the do not disturb!! I have always had it on & its NEVER messed with my volume but for some reason it did today!!!

That is probably what it was... somehow it muted the volumes sometime between last night & this a.m.! I'll check the DND settings & hopefully can still use it WITH media volume!! U guys r the BEST!!! Screw Speint, I'm coming HERE with any questions!!!
4 ppl couldnt tell me what to do & said to go to a store or wipe my phone (&everything saved on it)! U guys figure it out in 2 seconds!

I checked the DND settings & for some reason the media volume was set to be turned off when I had DND on. That's why I didnt think it was a problem b/c my DND is always on!!!! I cant thank u guys enough, ur better than my cell's tech team!!! I switched the media volume back on in DND settings, put it back on DND disturb, and all is well again!!! Thank u both so much for ur help!!
