Will my RAZR MAXX have ICS 4.0.4 before my Galaxy Nexus?

Why do you have 2 high end phones on the same carrier? Seems excessive, I dunno.

I was thinking the same thing when I read this. If the Nexus was too buggy, why not RETURN IT and get the Maxx? I have heard of some people having 2 lines so they can purchase a newer phone on contract. But, to purchase 2 new phones within a few months of each other sounds excessive to me as well, unless you are a developer. If you are a developer, you are used to buggy phones though.

I never bought into this. Before it was released I asked where the proof was that the Nexus would be the first to get updates. I mocked the 'fast updates direct from Google' that all the Nexus guys were yelling. I was attacked for this.

Looks like I was right. Now with that said, I still love my Nexus, but I've never bought into hype on any product because it's often just that, hype.

Your Galaxy Nexus will never get 4.0.4, likely. Because it will get 4.0.5.

This has gotten ridiculous, guys. If you want the latest and didn't get the GSM version, head in to the forums and root. I've been running 4.0.4 AOSP since the day it was released. And it isn't anything amazing; the camera is noticeably better, and scrolling may be slightly smoother. But that's it.

Plus, how long has your Nexus been on ICS? And how long has your DROID MAXX been on it?

I did want to return it but I was foolish and listened to Verizon and they lied to me. I received a warranty replacement Galaxy Nexus because the first one had data connection issues, volume issues, reboot issues and dropped call issues. The new replacement arrived and had the same problems so I got back on the phone with Verizon level 2 technical support. The tech support agent assured me these were known issues and that there was a software update being released in late January that would fix all of these issues. Since I wanted to make the GN work I listened to him and kept the phone waiting for this update.

Here we are approaching April and no update has been released and since I require a working phone to make a living I had to go purchase another phone so I would have a working phone to conduct business with.

So, I'm happily using my working RAZR MAXX while my GN sits in my desk drawer waiting for a long overdue update.

We Already have ics. It doesn't matter if other phones are getting it, they were promised after all. We will still get 4.0.5 and jellybean before them

Funny, you sound just like all those that were spouting off about the Galaxy Nexus getting updates quickly and directly from Google prior to the release of the phone. As we have seen, that isn't the case at all as we're still waiting for the first update for the GN. I could care less about Jelly Bean when my GN still isn't working properly on ICS.

I am going to stick my neck out here and try to bring some understanding to this. First off if you bought a nexus from Verizon or the GSM version....knowing what a nexus is and is intended for it should have had an unlocked boot loader the first day ya bought it. Whether you root it or not is your choice...my boot loader has been unlocked since day one and I just lately rooted so that I could install the leaked 4.0.4 for the cdma version. You say you were promised the first and fastest updates...and truthfully you have been. If your willing to do the work you could have been on 4.0.4 since day one that the asop was released. The only blame you could place for a non stock update is Verizon. Not Google...if you had bought the Nexus just to use it as your daily phone so be it but don't expect it to be updated by the carrier religiously. Those who bought the Nexus to use it as intended are very happy with it and are up to date if they want to be. I have in the past only used blackberry and am new to this android thing along with rooting. I was easily able to do all the above with help of the forums and the tutorials posted here. What needs to be thought about here is how you are using the device? Its intended purpose or just as a normal use phone relying on Verizon to update? If someone could direct me to an article published by Verizon where they ever stated that the phone would have support through them to all the latest versions I will gladly retract my statements. I'm not stating any of this to piss anyone off...just to help clarify! Hope it helps guys!!

"Its intended purpose ..." Okay, your turn, show us in writing where Verizon ever stated the phone's intended purpose is other than as a smartphone. Those of us who expect a smartphone to function without random reboots, without crackling microphones, without mulititouch problems were told early on there would be patches. Is it beyond the pale to expect known problems to be fixed sooner than 4 months after release? I think not and I think Google/Verizon/Nexus fans should acknowledge that instead of constantly asking show us where it is written.

I can remember some of the folks here being extremely critical of folks when they questioned how quickly updates would be received on the Nexus, especially when it came to light that VZW still gets to review any updates before they go out.

I agree from screenshots Moto let ICS shine thru...alot more than HTC did with the Rezound ICS leaks. The same...almost the same...not quite the same....bottom line is each version of Blur has gotten better n better. Each version of Sense hasnt IMO.

So hopefully ICS does leak or comes out officially for the RAZR soon so we can start seeing what bugs are/aren't there....and start a whole new round of phone vs. phone battles...

I do have a question from those on 4.0.3.....in the Settings where it shows the decibels...does it whow the phone and data reception seperate? This was posted today for ICS on the RAZR:

One significant being it still has Blur. In my opinion, no matter how. Much Motorola tweaks Blur, it will still stink!

Yea....some ppl will think that. All the happy RAZR, Maxx and Bionic users might see it a lil differently. One thing I noticed with this ICS leak for the RAZR....no big head icons for Contacts. I hated that on stock ICS.

And thanks to Blur it still has app drawer categories that you can create. Unless that can be done on stock ICS too, dont really know. On that note 2 things I like about Blur Cream Sandwich on the RAZR...

And I hope Moto keeps T9 dialing....so that means I hope it has the Blur somewhere in the dialer too...

I think you need to go back and get a better "understanding" of the issue my friend. The Galaxy Nexus was marketed as a standard Smartphone with the advanced features of the new version of Android operating system and nothing more. It wasn't "intended" for anything else and for you to imply it was or try and justify the bugs in this Smartphone by implying it is something it isn't and you have to void your warranty and use software that hasn't been approved and officially released to have a working phone is ignorant at best and deceptive at worst. I fell for some of this ignorance by listening to those that were touting the fast updates that would come directly from Google for this phone prior to launch.

Very true. Of course, that is part of these forums isn't it? Expressing opinion's and feelings about the various Android devices, even when those opinion's and feelings might not necessarily be universal?

In my opinion, the above is nothing more than something that clutters up the device and adds to delay's when scrolling through the app drawer.

The categories are are in the All Apps icon at the top of the app drawer. Its static, doesnt move. Its not categories placed all over the app drawer.

Exactly... if this isnt labeled a developer phone at Verizon or Google or Samsung's website... how is it supposed to be common knowledge its a developer phone? Oh wait....Wiki....Before Wiki was updated only the Nexus One was labeled a developer phone at google.com. I cant even find that reference anymore now...I found the post I made at another site:

Just checking official websites... neither Google, Verizon or Samsung advertizes it as a developer phone. We KNOW it is based on past experience and knowing the ins n out of Android. Maybe Google linked it to developer at some event. But online it isnt mentioned being a developer phone.

The Nexus One is the ONLY Nexus phone thats actually linked to developers online at Google website, Nexus S is listed as co developed by Google and Samsung at Google website. G Nex isnt listed as either of the 2.

Maybe if digging thru Google's website it will be a different story...but those first pages tell another story.

Patronizing? I would think if someone....hated......an entire OEM skin they would know the ins and out of it. At least somewhat.... Was just correcting a wrong assumption you had about app drawer categories on Blur.

I dont like Sense UI...I cant say I hate it. Its only some things I dont like about Sense UI. But I dont hate it as a whole.

I don't need to "know the in's and out's" of Blur, to first and foremost hold an opinion on it. What I do know, is that I did not like it when I was forced to use it on the Motorola Android phones that I have owned.

Because it does clutter and bog things down. Oh and guess what, I've had to endure Blur through the various incarnations of the Motorola Droid phones. I'm glad you are happy and satisfied with it. That is probably the only accurate statement you've made so far. Because you have no problem with Blur does not mean others have to share your opinion of it. I actually don't care what you say about ICS one way or the other.
