[WIP][KERNEL][ROM] Wildfire S Virgin Mobile USA

Ok so me and simon were talking, to where I got him to half listen. Where he isn't sure of the bricking ruu you guys flashed. So if you could give me the link I will see what it is but if I had to venture to guess you maybe got a hold of a gsm ruu. Which would explain the brick.

As far as I know there are no cdma roms yet, or at least none that are functional. The roms that are bricking your phones are gsm roms.

I did not flash a GSM RUU, I flashed the RUU for Virgin Mobile, check my post above and you will see the link.

Well i installed the custom recovery and link2sd and both are working fine and it has saved me some space so thanks for tips simonsimons.

Also is there anyway to get the wi-fi hotspot up and running on this phone. I noticed in link2sd the app for it is on there but VM and all of their glory seemed to have it locked down pretty tight. When i tried to turn it on it just stays on the processing screen for me. Just seeing if there is a work around for this.

your welcome im glad i helped

If you are rooted there is a workaround (downloading an app) download barnacle wifi teather

Great thanks for that, wifi teather is now working. My pc hooked right up to it, took me awhile to find a solution to be able to hook it up to my Touchpad though. But now that is working but i have to leave it unsecured, then delete all known networks and use a root command on my TP :'( but it will work.

Since im very new(b) to android what stock apps are ok to delete, i.e. airG, Where, Scvngr, VM Live, Twitter, etc. I am backed-up using titanium backup just not sure how the whole thing intertwines lol

Well, i found another sollution too :) Tether for root users, it has a green icon.. It acts just like an AP.
As far as the apps, you can remove: Air-g where scvngr VM live Downloads My Account thoes for sure, list all the stock apps(i allready removed mine) that look not to have HTC in the title or Framework. Ill conferm the ones more than the ones i gave you if you do that :) Also, Twitter and facebook have to stay because of HTC's sense

No i didnt sadly. I didnt see anything wrong with it. Maybe its some of the framework stuff thats wrong ? ill keep researching

First off, thank you simonsimons34 my phone is now s-off and rooted. This is my first android phone and tinkering with it is a must, especially with the terrible memory space. :p. Also Thanks to lokito15 I had the same problem with rooting as you and your posts probably saved me countless hours of searching.

Everything went pretty smooth, the two hiccups I had were getting the CID which required me restarting my pc to finally get it after installing HTC drivers. And the problem of the adb server out of date which went smoothly after killing HTC sync.

Now on to the custom recovery and link2sd. And possibly the internet trick, we will see. I will post back and let you know how that goes.

So again another thanks to simonsimons34 and lokito15. And if I ever get my finances straightened out I'll throw a few dollars your way because this was worth it. :-$

No problem, I am glad my post was able to help you out :)

Something ive noticed, about forums :) Androidforums, is noobs. Androidcentral is experienced people. XDA, just an info source, lol dont ask questions.
Hopefully that makes someone else laugh too :)
anyways, i am working on pulling the device configs to get a ROM up and going :)

Thanks simon, I have deleted a few stock apps and am so happy I dont have to look at them in apps menu anymore, Ive kept a few of them for my wife but got rid of the VM crap and some bloatware.
I will also check out that tether for root users as well. Thanks again :)

Ok so I've copied the CID from the simple gold card program, what the hell do I do with it when I go to the website? I'm clicking the link but dont see anything there about putting this number in. When i click gold card generator, it just says they're on holiday.
