With the end of the Note, are you done upgrading? Are you done with Samsung?

If what we see with the Fold 3 is what you mean by evolved and blended... an S-Pen compatible device with the pen being a separate item to buy just for basic writing and a more expensive pen for features that would normally come standard with the Note pen... and no built-in silo to hold the pen without a special case to add to the size of the package...

The Note is gone.

It's just called "an accessory" now. :)
They aren't done yet

So Samsung has to think how this going to unravel the S eries and fold series each have their pen but no where to place in the phone like a Note series , that's why they have different names just a pen added as a standalone feature . The moment they do install a slot in a S series or fold then it would be associated with name Note , example s22 series then s22 Note editon or fold 4 then fold 4 Note edition . If they don't name it that way would be stupid to me because it's a Note

So allow me ask you a question. If you had to choose between your Note 20U with its integrated pen and the Z Fold 3 with Spen compatibility, which device would you end up with?

I think I know the answer.

I'm predicting the Spen silo is gone also. Samsung has been conditioning us for a few years by making the S series and note series basically the same with the Spen being the primary difference. People want bigger batteries, bigger cameras and far as I'm concerned the note 20U reached max size if not a little too big. That silo takes up a lot of valuable real estate. In reality the fold has more space then the others for a silo, they could maybe incorporate it in the hinge some how.

I used to be a critic of the S series and fold 3 not having the silo, but I'm rethinking it now. I bought some rinke loops and store my Spen by my chair and use it there. I never really used the Spen on the notes, but I use it a lot on the fold 3. It's bigger since it's not in the phone, feels like using a actual pen.

Final thought to why I think the silo is gone.. Samsung has been following apple on these things. Take the 3.5 audio jack and forcing Bluetooth headsets for the most part, taking the SD card forcing memory upgrades, now making the Spen accessories forcing you to buy it extra.. All making them money. Samsung sees apple getting away with charging for this stuff, why not Samsung.

Samsung has had the s series and the note for their flagship phones, there's never been any flagship phones between the 2. So if Samsung continues with the folds, the biggest chance for the note is to go in with the s series. Maybe the silo will stay and be called the S note, but I don't think it will be a standalone phone anymore, and I'm not holding my breath for the silo. I'm even coming around to no silo and I got people mad at me harshly criticizing the s21 not having a silo. For now I'll get the popcorn out and enjoy the show that's coming on this subject.

Wondering… if you got a Fold 3 in its current configuration… you really see yourself use an spen with it often and have it in the case or carry it with you or have it nearby??

I believe most people that buy the Fold won’t be buying with the thought of the pen in mind and most won’t bother with buying it. If I guess right, pen support for the S21 and predict Fold will be so dismal that they will finally do away with it than to factor in the cost of the screen and even making the pens if they just sit in the shelved unsold.

IMO If it isn’t included and no built in silo, most people won’t bother.

Agreed, unless it’s a real “X-Note” model with silo and included pen, Samsung won’t give up the space inside the phone to fit a silo in the S or Z series. We will see.

Nothing about the fold or the flip intrigues me. I have been a Note user since GN2 and these phones just don't do it for me. They don't seem as durable and who wants a camera downgrade. Eventually I can live without expandable memory due to the many options available (cloud storage, home cloud storage, portable USB storage). If I want a tablet, I will buy a tablet. I'm too OCD to have a crease running down the middle of my screen. I mean, to each is own but it's a bit for me. The best thing Samsung can do IMO, is develop an S22 Note edition. I will miss my squared corners. My wife has the S21 Ultra and when I hold it, I dislike the rounded corners.

I used to think I could not live without the silo but I was wrong. I use my Spen with the Fold and I'm OK without it. It stores nicely in the flip case for when I'm out and about, and at home when I take the case off it's nearby in the case. The only Spen related drawback for me is not being able to use it on the external screen

If they add a silo at some point that's OK but I think it's gone. To make a fold with a silo means they need to make a model without one just like they did with the Note and S series. Not everyone wants an Spen and keeping it as an accessory makes perfect sense.

I didn't buy the fold for spen features , i bought it for media consumption , its new technology i feel comfortable with now and if it has a silo next fold will be a game changer and be the next Note

But you have the Spen

So you are using the Samsung case with the pen holder? Do you pocket carry that combination?? If so, how is it carrying that rig on a daily basis?

Now that I think about a setup like that, I'd probably a prefer a horizontally attached belt clip,

I have that case , and the holder for spen slides off so that's what I did , the fold 3 is smaller in height and narrow compared to Note 20U by good amount when closed .

Ah, OK. Mikes post made it sound like you were going to get a pen for the Fold... so you are not getting a pen and going to try carrying it around? I mean, I'd like to hear how people are doing so if they are going to make it a Note alternative.

In another post I had just thought a more practical way would be a horizontally attached belt clip. Now that I think of it, the pen could be mounted on the clip too instead of on the phone case to not increase width but the pen wouldn't be flopping in pocket or bag.

It can with the flip case when I pre-ordered but don't like it and don't plan on using the pen with the fold because the option how to mount with the case , I need a slot built-in the device for spen like how the Note series have it , plus my primary reason for the fold was media consumption

Ah, you answered a couple of my questions while I was creating my last post. The pen holder slides off the case when you don't want to use it... interesting.

Do you like using the pen on the flexible screen... feel as smooth as using on glass Note?? Or do you feel you have to be careful when you write? Like Mike said, too bad the external screen wasn't usable. I had posted that a long time ago wondering.

Felt good writing just no slot to put it and that ruins it for me because I don't like the option so far . But the fold itself I like very much .

They actually make a slightly bigger pen for the fold , might get later on down the road but I believe it's like 80.00
