TY. I just don't want to feel like a beta next to everyone's awesome 2.1. My friend's gf works for verizon...and she hasn't heard anything either. so they must not tell anyone but the higher ups...however, she usually knows about stuff like that because the employees need to know how to give customer service about new products and software...(not sure about the software portion though)

That's true, however they don't need to know much untill just before it happens. Lol..he told me he prefers sites like this and the rest of the smart phone experts for his info Which by the way he gladly passes on to customers which is against the norm for people in his position.

If you were a blackberry user (Which it seems you weren't) you would know that Verizon reps are just drones. They know nothing about software update release dates. I'm sure if you asked every rep at every store then called verizon support and asked them you would get thousands of different answers.

All information you get from Verizon reps about this type of thing is pure speculation until the BIG red of Verizon actually officially releases a date.

2.1 IS a maintainence update.

Verizon Wireless labels their updates "MR1, MR2, MR3, etc" - doesn't matter if the OS version were version 99.5; it would still be considered a "maintainance release" in VZWs eyes.

umm, not quite sure what you mean by that because all of android is java based (apps and such) do you mean in the browser? and as for the post about the 2.1 update being rolled out, do you mean to say that flash 10.1 will be included in this update?

i dont know why it seems like no one here knows that 2.1 was already ported from the nexus 1 to the droid..is it that everyone here is waiting for the official stable release? personally i want to keep my root access so i am just using the ported version. (also if you just want the good looking stuff you can download the launcher an gallery ect over at alldroid)

i getthe impression most ppl here want the official. its a lil different than crackberry. i think im waiting for the official myself. just dont wanna mess with it yet. give me a few more updates.lol

Apps may be java based, but the core OS itself is not.

Point in case, the fix for the hole used to gain root access is written in C++. Which also means, a new hole has to be used.

Looks like it had no real impact except for a few peoples facebook app. Small maintenance update? It did not change their version.
