16 gigs is just way too small, I don't want to put stuff on the cloud.

On the road includes in a car. This is the primary role my tablets play = kids watching movies. This is why they still sell tablets greater than 8GB without a radio.
That can't be right. I have been assured by another user on here that tablets only need storage for apps, not media. Your kids must be using it wrong.

The 8 or 16GB choice is more about the number of apps you run, not media storage.

Well, since you are interested. Right now I use about 9GB on my phone for OS and apps. 7GB free for media if need be. So, if I were only really a 4GB app guy, then 4GB free would not be too bad. So yes, it is still all about apps.

Regardless, both tablets are configured to use SD cards! Yay for me!

Does it require an external power source like the Nexus 4 does? Or did google design it correctly for the nexus 7?

No external power needed. You can look it up right here on this great web site!

Users are more inclined to watch movies on a tablet than on a phone so more storage on a tablet makes much more sense especially for people that travel a great deal.

Yes, it's a simple concept, really.

But tablets are for media I thought. Apparently Google thought as well, since they released a 32 gig version.

If only Nexus 4 users were so lucky. Oh well...Google has probably learned from the nexus 4 mistake and won't repeat it. I am glad the flaw did not make it into the Nexus 7.

What mistake? The only mistake we all agree on is your foolishly purchased a device that didn't suit your needs.

I am glad the flaw did not make it into the Nexus 7.

What flaw? The device LG made for Google was exactly the device Google requested.

If you aren't on these forums to learn and hold reasonable discussions, why are you here?

Ignorance really must be bliss, Jeffrey.

That;s what happens today when people don't do the proper research prior to purchasing something. Then get on the internet, after they get it realizing that they screwed up, and try to convince everyone that they were duped by repeating the same complaints over and over and over and over again.

People on here seem to think that buying a product means you are not allowed to criticize it. The complaining of other owners was useful to me in deciding to purchase stuff in the past. So I would like to see it continue. I do not want opinions only from fanboys.

I knew the limitations of the nexus before I bought it. I chose to buy it anyway. It's assets made up for it's flaws.

There's a difference between being helpful and acknowledging a devices shortcoming (not flaws, buddy), and crying about them for months on end. Topic over, discussion ended.

You're refusal to accept another person's view, and in this case, every other members view, is downright embarrassing for yourself.

That's excellent news!

I'm seriously considering a Motorola X phone. If it comes out in October and the new Nexus comes out in November, I won't have to wait long between releases. I want to take the time to read the reviews, compare both, and see which one fits my needs better.

Thanks for the info!

I'm not sure when it's required, but it typically happens prior to production for all devices that are meant to be sold or used in the US. For example the Moto X devices, expected between July and October (most likely closer to October) began hitting the FCC approved site in May (might have been the end of April for the first one, I don't recall exactly but I'm pretty sure it was May 10th.) while production runs have not begun, as far as we know. Another example, the S4 was approved in March and April, for a May release, while the One was approved in February for a late April release.

It ends when people stop discussing it. Why are you so angry?

Why do you not listen?

You're confusing anger with humor; I think you're comical.

You are not helpful, you're closed minded and argumentative. Give it rest, for all our sakes. Thanks, from every single user that's disproven you and disagreed with you.

It would be nice to have a 32gb model for those that want the additional storage, but I would still want a 16gb model at a similar price point as the N4. The N5 will definitely need to have LTE. I would like to see improvements in what I consider the two weaknesses of the N4, the radio and sound. I think most cases of bad battery life stem from the radio and the rear speaker could be improved upon. Overall, if we get a N5, that is equal to the N4, but updated and with enhancements and improvements, it will be a win win, especially if we get similar pricing.

I would agree that it is best to keep a 16 GB model around, either for $350 or lower. (Off-topic: I also want everyone to be able to get it for this price, not just people in the US.)

The positioning of the 32 GB model could follow the Nexus 7's footsteps. When Google introduced the 32 GB Nexus 7, it dropped the price for the 16 GB model. I would like to see the same with the Nexus 4 or Nexus 5, if possible. Give people the option for more storage and give a DISCOUNT for people who can live with less storage.

LTE, more battery, and better sound are also good. I'm on the same page with you on that.

If they made a Nexus 5 with 3 models, 8GB, 16GB and 32 GB, I would buy the 16 GB model again. I could probably get away using the 8GB model, since I never even had that much on my last phone which had a 16GB SD card in it, but I would still get the 16GB. I would have no use for the 32 GB, unless it was maybe a couple of dollars more than the 16GB.

I look at it like this. 8 GB is good for those who are almost 100% in the cloud. 32 GB is good for people who often encounter connectivity issues and cannot depend on having access to the cloud. 16 GB is a happy medium between the two extremes.

If you have no use for the 32 GB version, then you'll probably save a lot of money by going with the 16 GB one (which you already mentioned). It wouldn't surprise me if the price difference was $100. You'll be a fiscally responsible consumer, and that's a good thing. :)

wifi only is too limiting with that small storage.... for me, tablets get the most large media usage on the road away from constant wifi... at home it's all about the big tv and stereo. Adding a radio, it is truly an everywhere device.

Do you have 16 GB or 32 GB on your Nexus 7? You mentioned previously that your Nexus 7 doesn't have carrier service.

Gotta love T-Mobile! :D

Were you using DC-HSDPA, or did you use LTE? I hear a lot of people like to change the settings on their Nexus 4 to get LTE on T-Mobile.
H+ - I haven't rooted or done anything to get the LTE functionality back - must admit, haven't followed where that Tmo devlelopment stands right now either.

You're gonna laugh. I got a super cheap refurbed 8GB for just over a hundo. lol

I also have a 10" Asus EEEpad transformer that really serves as our movie media workhorse. The SD adapter trick works nicely though for swapping the SD card from the EEEpad to the N7 if/when needed (rarely).
