Don't know if it's just a coincidence, but when I got my Evo I was getting plenty of 4g signal in my house.(at least 3 bars) Now I cant even connect on my back porch. I am within a mile or 2 of 3 sites that I no are 4g. Anyone else having these issues after the ota update? Last night all it would do is pop up saying there was a 4g network available over and over without ever connecting to it. Would be interested if I'm the only one having this issue. Thanks in advance for any relevant responses.

I have noticed this also..dont know why... it sucks.. not much improvement of the wifi orbattery life for me... but the diminishing signal strength in 4G coverage hurt..

Same here..I called Sprint last night about this issue and they said that the reason why i wasnt getting a signal is b/c towers were just starting to be built in my area...WTF? I live in Philly, where 4G has been set up for a long time---furthermore my 4G was BLAZING when I 1st got phone (on 06.04.10) up until the update. Tech obvious didnt know what the hell she was talking about...lol..."theyre just building towers in your area"---yeah right

-ZDK-

I just dont understand why Sprint or HTC would put out a patch and hinder the phone even more... i enjoyed my 4G.... damn..

I've been with Sprint since they started offering service in the Kansas City area and I've never really bitched about their customer service or coverage. However, the only reason I got this phone was for access to their 4G network which their maps show as capable of "in-building" service both at my home and work. When I got the phone on launch day, I was able to get 2 to 3 bars of 4G service inside at work and at home. After the update I've been unable to get any 4G service inside or outside at home. At work the 4G signal will come and go throughout the day but never more than just 4G logo, no bars of service show at all anymore.

I went to the corporate Sprint store where I purchased the phone and talked to technicians in the repair center about this issue. They said they were aware of it in a handful of situations after the update, but there was nothing they could do about it except HOPE that it would be addressed in a future update. I asked if I could swap the phone for a new one that did not have the update and they told me that would not be possible because all the new phones they sell would have the update already installed.

I'm really frustrated because I really like this phone and had great 4G speeds prior to the update. But, my 30-day return period is getting close to ending and no potential solution seems to be on the horizon.

I'm in Chicago, same thing here! 4G has weaker signal and harder time holding on to it.... frequently reverting to 3G

I'm no longer able to connect at all. Took a drive this morning to a couple know areas where it worked great before and all I got was the notification over and over.(never once did it connect) This is really starting to piss me off, 10 extra a month and I cant connect to 4G. The worst part is they won't acknowledge my problem, technically the roll out for my area isn't official yet. I'm in the communications field and have been to 3 of the sites several times over the last month, they are all within a couple miles of my house. I was getting at worst 2.5 down and 1 up at my home and between 4 and 5 down close to and at the sites. Now nothing!!

I'm having the same issues in St. Louis. My 4G worked great on the launch day, but have gotten worse since the update. If I leave the 4G switch on it never seems to connect on its own. I have to manually turn the switch off and then back on or restart my phone completely before it reconnects to 4G. Even after doing that it still doesn't want to stay connected for very long. They better fix this soon! I'm already not happy about paying an extra $ 10 a month for it.......now it doesn't even work!

I'm damn glad I didn't install the update. As a general rule, I NEVER buy a phone, flash an update, buy the software upgrade, etc., until other people have done so and reported on their results. This update seems to cause at least as many issues as it fixes.

I've set my phone not to search for or download updates automatically. I'll find out about them here anyway.

Similar issue for me as well, but a little different.

When I first got the phone day 1:
HOME - 3 bars of 4G!!
WORK - 1 bar of 4G.

After the latest OTA update:
HOME - No 4G connection. It sees a network and tries to connect 3 times, then gives up.
WORK - 1 bar of 4G. Faster download speed, but .5 Mbp/s upload speed (worse than before).

Would this maybe be a PRL update dictating the towers we 'see'?

My 4G MAC address is correct and matches the box and phone sticker. (I've seen some rooters having MAC issues and fixing it)

My phone is stock + the OTA updates. I have not rooted this phone at all.

This is making me very grumpy to go from full 4G bars to NOTHING at home.

guys are you going by bars or signal strength?

I hardly ever get bars on my Incredible but the signal is better then what it was on my BB....

I'm talking about being able to get and keep a 4G signal for data connections. After the update, for the most part, my phone is not able to get and keep a 4G signal. Instead I'm getting 3G service where I used to be able to get the faster 4G speeds.

When I worked with the Sprint technicians, they updated my PRL, updated my profile, pulled the battery and even did a factory reset on various visits over the course of two days -- all with the same results. I would have NO 4G signal at all when I walked into the Sprint store where they have a repeater installed and I'd not get a 4G signal until they tried to update my PRL again. Even though it showed the same PRL (60667) it would then get a 4G signal until the screen shut off. Upon waking the phone there would be NO 4G signal at all.

That's when they told me that they knew I was not the only one with this issue. Unfortunately, they could not downgrade my phone to the previous software or PRL versions where I had been able to get 4G download speeds of 4.8 to 6.1 mbps. And, they had no further word on if or when this issue would be addressed. All they could offer was they HOPED it would be fixed in the near future.

i live in philly area too, got brand new evo 2 days ago, got the ota and 4g would not connect at all, called for support went to three levels of Sprint Support the sprint people are so STUPID they kept telling me that the service was listed as in building which meant that they were building out. I pointed them to the explanation on thier web site which said in building meant reception in building, I also pointed them to coverage map which showed I was in area of best reception. they still did not get it. so they put in a ticket to thier network swat team, which takes up to 48 hours. I did not want to wait that long and I went to sprint repair store , I figured that they could not tell me that thier store was not in coverage area, as all stores have repeaters. The repair guys had it for 45 minutes and could not figure it out. 5 minutes later they came out with new evo, I made them show me 4g working, told them do not apply ota. a few hours later engineer called on phone to work i ticket, I told him prob solved, i got a new phone.
My guess is that the ota fix, screws up either password, or mac address to connect to clear wimax service.

.......sorry for that but i had to rant

So is nobody else having this issue or is it a matter of them not noticing yet? My WiFi range is still horrible and with this added 4G problem, it makes using my Evo really slow for anything data related. It sucks having such a powerful phone and not being able to enjoy the higher data speeds of 4G or WiFi. I guess I'll just have to see if Sprint will replace my Evo.

Update on 4g

I woke up this morning and my last ditch try to get 4g, worked. Not only that, its much faster than it was before. I'm now getting downloads of 4.66 or more every time. I'm guessing Sprint has been working on the system, the best I got before was anywhere from 1.5 to 3.5. Glad I didn't return it, I have it set up the way I like it and didn't want to have to do it again. I hope everyone else's problem goes away, good luck.

I just got my phone two days ago. I live in N Delaware and travel to Philly regularly. I've not been able to connect to 4G. It scans, detects, attempts to connect, then goes back to scanning. I was on the phone with Sprint last night multiple times to trouble shoot and they had no idea. Their recommendation is to go to a Sprint store to trouble shoot and see if it needs to be replaced. I will be up in Philly in a couple of hours and I'm hoping that I have the same experience as you jeffsanace.

I had the same problem until Friday morning. Would not connect to 4G and Sprint CS didn't have a clue. Just when I was getting ready to head to best buy I tried 4G again and I got a connection. Now I have a stronger signal than before, 2 to 3 bars, but lower speeds. I hope froyo fixes all these problems so we can just enjoy our new toy.

Still no joy. I'm in center city philly and still unable to connect to 4G. I can detect it, and it tries to connect but to just rescans. What do u thus recommend? I have a ticket with sprint and need to take it into a store. I've trouble shot it 3 times. Wait it out?

4g has been working great!!

My original problem has not come back, in fact I am now getting speeds of 5mbs and above. I'm assuming they had been optimizing the system over the last few days. I think they may have throttled the power down for the initial release, and now are turning it back up. I was just ready to do a factory reset and decided to give it 1 more shot. It's been 2 days now, and no problems at all. I would give it a day and see if what I think is what's actually going on. Good luck!!
