4g getting worse signal then before the update

I got the same issue in Dallas. I have noticed I can't get a 4g connection unless I am stationary.

Well still no joy for me. I went to a Sprint store this morning in downtown Philly (lots of reviews on 4G and the Evo have been made from center city philly) and they could not figure it out. They ordered me a new phone and it should be in tomorrow they say. They said it would just be the phone with no accessories which I am fine with. I wanted to make sure that it was new and not refurb. They said the phone is so new there are no refurb. I hope that is true. I will not be happy if it is refurb. Any one have any insight into this.
Also, jeffsanace..where in DElaware are you? Do you get a 4g signal in delaware? I only get 4g signal when heading up to philly when at about the Blue Route split from I 95. I know the sprint coverage map shows it coming up to around the Naamans road area but wasn't sure if that was true.

I am now able to connect to 4G but it will not stay connected. I live in Corpus Christ , Texas and before i was able to connect and recieve a strong signal... now if it connects its weak and it wont stay connected... hmmm not sure..

Same In Seattle. I bought mine on Friday and it just scans,scans,scans.....

I live in Dallas TX, one of the first cities to have 4G, I get NO 4G signal at all, I dont think is the update since I havent updated my phone to Froyo. It is sprint ****ti network. Last nite not even 3g was working, I dont know about EVDO, but still sucks...

I'm not sure about anyone else, but I've NOT updated my phone to Froyo yet either. The updates I was referring to were the OTA update that came out on launch day to fix the SD card issue and the OTA update last week that supposedly helped battery life and wifi connections among other things.

Since applying last week's update, I have not been able to get or keep a 4G signal in areas where I had previously had no problems getting and keeping a signal. Prior to applying that update, I did NOT find Sprint's network or connectivity to be subpar.

From the reports I've seen in this thread and through discussions with other users experiencing similar issues, it appears that something in the last update has impacted the ability of my 4G radio to get and maintain a 4G signal.

I am in Newport. I have at least 2 bars in my house at all times now. As I said, I am in the Communications business. Clear has tower sites now at the Hotel Dupont, Dupont Chestnut run, across from Del Park and soon in Newark. Clearwire's plan is to cover the I 95 corridor by years end, New York all the way to Boston. Early next year all the way to to Florida. Where have you tried it? I have been to 2 of these sites, and can confirm they are up and running. They have been down a few times over the last 2 weeks, seems like a day here and there.

I am in the Bellfonte area off of Silverside RD in North Wilmington. Even though I can not connect, my phone hasn't detected 4G (which it still can do). I'm basically north of downtown between I95 and I 495. I get my new phone today..i hope to god it works. Then i'll really be able to test around DE.

I live in Austin TX and 4G service is almost nonexistent...Some places I can pick it up but most places not....I don't even bother turning it on anymore...

I am in Dallas tx as well and my 4g is also worse.
I turn on 4g and it says 4g network available but doesn't connect.
At my parents yesterday I hooked up their new computer and used my phone to test 4g reception and got nothing on my evo. I moved around the living room and put my phone in the window and still nothing. Today they got a clear modem and my mom said 3 of the 5 lights are on on top. For that modem it indicates signal strength.
Hopefully an update to fix the update.

Same In Seattle. I bought mine on Friday and it just scans,scans,scans.....

I am having the same issue. It scans, then says it's connecting to Sprint and then goes to disconnected. I thought it might be my device, seems like at least one other person is having the same issue. Hope they fix it soon!

I don't think it is the device. i could be wrong but i figure if it were the device it wouldn't detect and try to connect, but it does. Not sure why it can not connect. a replacement phone is supposed to arrive today.

Has anybody tried to update their profile to see if this fixes the connection problem. I can't confirm this is what fixed my connection problem, I did a lot of different things before it started working again ie. Pulling battery, playing with settings etc. The only logical thing I can think of that fixed my 4G connection problem is updating my profile. The phone may need to reconfigure itself with the Sprint network. It won't hurt to try it.

spRint tech services updated my profile. Still no 4g. Replacement phone today hopefully.

I've updated my profile AND my PRL numerous times. Even though the PRL shows it is the same after each manual update (60667), after it finishes, I will be able to get a 4G signal in areas where I know I've had the signal before the OTA update. But as soon as I start driving and travel any distance, I lose the 4G signal. The only way I've been able to get it back while moving is to update the PRL or my profile again. Once I reach my destination, I will eventually get a 4G signal again after my phone has been stationary at that location for several minutes.

It seems that when I'm in my car, the 4G signal handoff from one tower to the next is not being handled as smoothly or efficiently as it was previously. Not sure if this is a function of the PRL 60667 vs. PRL 60666 or if there were changes to the WiMax radio in the OTA update.

I have NOT rooted my phone and this sporadic 4G connectivity started happening after I did the OTA update last week. When I am able to get a 4G signal, the download speeds are not as fast as they were prior to the OTA update. Nor are they as consistent between tests as they were prior to the OTA update. I used to be able to get and maintain a strong 4G signal anywhere inside my house prior to the OTA update. Afterwards, I'm lucky to get a signal when I'm upstairs or even outside.

I've talked to several different techs over the phone as well as at the corporate Sprint store where I purchased my phone. Their only solution is to swap the phone when a new one becomes available and hope for better results.

i live in philly area too, got brand new evo 2 days ago, got the ota and 4g would not connect at all, called for support went to three levels of Sprint Support the sprint people are so STUPID they kept telling me that the service was listed as in building which meant that they were building out. I pointed them to the explanation on thier web site which said in building meant reception in building, I also pointed them to coverage map which showed I was in area of best reception. they still did not get it. so they put in a ticket to thier network swat team, which takes up to 48 hours. I did not want to wait that long and I went to sprint repair store , I figured that they could not tell me that thier store was not in coverage area, as all stores have repeaters. The repair guys had it for 45 minutes and could not figure it out. 5 minutes later they came out with new evo, I made them show me 4g working, told them do not apply ota. a few hours later engineer called on phone to work i ticket, I told him prob solved, i got a new phone.
My guess is that the ota fix, screws up either password, or mac address to connect to clear wimax service.

.......sorry for that but i had to rant

Wow, I had just about the same exact experience yesterday (save for getting 4G to work). Bought new phone 6/30, applied OTA (the second version of the one that bricked people), 4G would go scanning -> connecting to sprint -> scanning -> connecting to sprint -> scanning (no more connecting). Called tech support, did the battery pull out, update profile and PRL (I already did those on my own), and check various numbers on the phone. She had me do a factory reset and still no luck.

Got it exchanged, brand new out of the box (no OTA) and still no luck. I called tech support again yesterday and that's where our stories converge....the d-bag was telling me the same thing about "in building" and I had him check various addresses I was at (including in Philly a few miles away from Center City and a Sprint store) - he told me both was "in building" and that's when I checked the website and discovered "in building" on there too! I told him that using the same terminology for two different statuses can be very confusing to the customer. And he definitely made it sound like I shouldn't be able to connect to an "in building" (their term) network, but when I called him out on that ("why should a consumer's phone see a developing network") he said that consumers can use it....then what the **** is up with even telling me that? Just full of freaking lies! He ended up putting in a ticket, should hear something in 48-72 hours (been about 24 now).

I was thinking of taking it to another Sprint store and try playing very innocent ("oh my phone has never connected to 4g! please help!") but I have to unroot my phone before I let someone look at it (please note that my first phone was never rooted by me (especially because I applied the OTA) and I tried 4G on my second phone before rooting it (also hoped that somehow a new ROM would help :P))

Oh man, sorry about my rant on top of his, but I think a lot of us are getting the run around and possibly even phones with malfunctioning 4G but they don't have enough to swap everyone out because that's a lost sale (two phones to the same person for the price of one VS two phones sold to two people)

I have also been having the same issues people have been reporting. Before the update, the 4g worked well (although I usually got only 1 bar, but it was reliable).

Since the update, the 4g doesn't work the vast majority of the time. It will say '4G network available' and then never connect, but keep flashing that it is available. I have tried this in multiple cities that have 4G (Seattle, Portland, and San Jose), so I know it's not an issue with the local network. Turning off/on phone, pulling battery, makes no difference.

Anyone know of a solution yet?

My boyfriend and I both have Evos and were standing right next to each other in our bedroom and he was on 4g and my phone was just scanning and scanning.
