Any Regrets?

I dont understand this logic. So you are saying people should be ok with paying $1500 for a device that just happens to let you make phone calls and txts ? If the camera isn't that great how Samsung is touting it to be and expecting to charge this much for a phone, is it worth$1500 to you ? This was the major feature Samsung advertised. It needs to justify the price because of that. But sadly doesn't appear to be.

Also, people have a right to have their own opinion. Don't like it then simply just scroll past. No need to belittle their opinions.

Are you having a bad day? I don't know you. You're a stranger, which means I'm not personally affected by your commentary....on a phone - $1500 or $15. It's a phone.

Secondly, your opinion is one of many that seem to be most concerned about the camera...and not much else on the phone. I don't get that...and if you feel belittled, I don't get that either. It's not the end of the world.

Relax. In the future, consider adding a warning informing those who disagree with you not to comment. That may not work, tho...it's a public forum.

Hope you enjoy your phone.

I think one reason people are focusing so much on camera is that it's the main differentiator to past Samsung phones. It's a given the display is gonna be the best on the market. Anyone who is coming from a S9 or newer already has the same basic software as the S20's, and in the US 5G is not worth mentioning too much until it's rolled out to more markets. The big selling points are gonna be the camera and the 120Hz.

On a personal note though, I am interested to hear how audio sounds.

A lot of people like to capture moments with the best possible still photography and video filming with the device that they always have with them and when one of the major selling points is the camera and the prices keep climbing astronomically then throwing all the hype on top of it and not having it deliver as expected I think all the talk about the camera performance is well warranted when a lot of people are upgrading for mainly a camera upgrade, me being one of them.

If the camera isn't making the cut, the rest of the good about it doesn't matter. As of now the video filming looks worse than my S10 (looks like low bit rate and low jittery/Skippy looking framerate). I wish more people would complain then that would give them more incentive to try to fix it faster. If it's not performing on par with my S10 in the main area I care most about, then what's the point in spending the money, even with the trade in and free stuff.

I get all of that, especially if you upgraded from a good camera to a phone that was hyped by Samsung to be better.. At 1500 no less.

Personally though, I'm not shocked by any of this. I've been down this road with Samsung cameras before which is why I'm in no hurry to order the phone until I hear they at least somewhat iron out some early issues. And given my history with Samsung, I know some things will likely be addressed with an update, and some things won't... and Im fine with that.

In the meantime, I'm also interested in hearing about the rest of the phone. I never upgrade just for cameras.

But I found a forum on Reddit where cameras and other features are being discussed. I'll have to be good with that until this camera thing blows over.

Well I get a lot less eye strain while web browsing over my S10. The display is superb when using it as a GPS. I can use it one handed pretty much the same as the S10. Any time that I have to use the ultra two handed would be the same scenario with the S10. I was hoping that I would now be able to stream LDAC at full bitrate to the Sony WH-1000XM3 but the audio still cuts out at full bitrate so maybe that's the headphones fault not the phone but LDAC is a Sony codec. I've sort of already gotten used to the size and weight in my pocket but I'm not using a case - I dread the thought of making it bulkier and heavier. I could almost justify keeping it for the ease on my eyes while web surfing. :D

I bought the "small" S20 and have no regrets. I love the size of the phone, battery seems to be doing fine even with 120 hz display turned on (had roughly 3 and a half hours SOT yesterday, and 50% battery left at the end of the day). I don't miss the mmWave, both because I don't live or work "downtown" and the fact that I'm on T-Mobile.

Have you tried unlocking Developer Options? There's several LDAC related settings there that you can't get to with the general settings.

Reading all these comments, I'm glad I'm passing the S20 Ultra and sticking with my Note 9.

There's no way I would consider giving up my Note9 for an S-Series, especially when I didn't give it up for the Note10+. I think I will hang on to my Note9 and hopefully upgrade it to the Note22 after Samsung announces the Note23. I don't think there will be any new advance feature from Samsung for a while.

This...and this is what I don't get. Many, if not most of us know the deal. We know that making the decision to purchase a phone straight out the gate can be problematic...yet people think because it's a "$1500 phone", it's not going to be - the same people who have been buying Samsung phones for years, and paying more each year. I'm just trying to understand what that's about.

It makes me think that a lot of folks just want the latest, greatest and most expensive phone - and there's nothing wrong with that. But if that's you, then you have to own that, and stop acting as if Samsung "failed" you, for doing what they do...every, single time.

One Plus gets a lot of passes b/c the value to cost ratio is better. Plus they pretty much serve completely different demographics when it comes to the general consumer. The person that's looking at a One Plus isn't generally gonna be the same person looking at a $1400 Ultra unless they are an enthusiast. The issue I have with the Ultra isn't the price in and of itself, but the value to cost ratio. It doesn't offer enough for it to be so expensive. Now that's something that each person has to decide.
Yeah they will be the most happiest with Samsung price increases since now they can still increase the price and come in at $850 and say we are still way cheaper than other flagships. And because they are cheaper they will get a pass on not having the best camera or wireless charging etc. But at they are slowly inching towards $1000 more critics will follow. It's just their time now to shine and it'll not last forever

This time I was actually very tempted to divert from the Note line (Note 10 Plus 5G) to the S20 Ultra 512gb but then I saw the price of 1579 Euro and decided to at least wait until price drop a couple of hundreds, now my last doubts are gone and I won't bother with it at all.
I'll see about the next Note..... But... Hello Samsung.... Pricing has gone nuts..

No regrets whatsoever because I will never pay this much money for ANY cell phone! LOL

Just curious, for people who saw the price and have absolutely no interest in this phone, why do you come read the forum? I will never own an Iphone and I have never read I phone forums LOL

I'll find out soon enough I suppose. I have the + and Ultra on order, neither has shipped yet (which is odd considering many people (most?) that pre-ordered right away have already received theirs)...i did pre-order late, but jeez.

Anyway, i like the on paper capabilities of the ultras cameras and am hoping Samsung will really focus on updates to further improve (and fix I guess) them over time but I'm not sure I'll be able to get used to the size, hence having the + on pre-order as well since it's roughly the same size as my Note 10+ so at least one of them is going back for sure; even considered ordering the smaller one too, but A) I'm on Verizon and B) That's going a bit far, even for me C) Yes, i have issues.

Main reasons for upgrading from my Note 10+ in no particular order:

Flat'ish screen
120hz
240hz touch response
Cameras
Faster ram
Buttons on the right side, both literally and figuratively
Battery life (when needed, down to 60hz, turn off 5G and should be kick arse battery life)

But, still not 100% sure any of that will convince me to keep it.

My #1 reason for upgrading are the rumors of the Note20 waterfall display and that they are becoming more and more credible. The s20 wasn't even a consideration at all for me until those rumors hit, i can tolerate the curved screen on my Note 10+ but if they go full waterfall, that's a big Ol' no way in hell. And with google having their head up their arse I'm doubting the Pixel 5 will be an option then either.

I usually buy 3-4 flagships a year, with google out and lg, moto, htc etc pretty much out (or a joke), leaves me with just Samsung and OnePlus (but the latter's cameras are always "meh" and they never have WC and I won't buy without it, though it is rumored for the 8 - we'll see). So between the now small field of OEM's with really high end flagships and the ever increasing prices, I'm looking for my next phone to be the first one I keep for at least a year, and may turn out I'm already using that phone, my Note 10+, we'll see.

I disagree..it is the end of the world lol :P And yeah it won't work.

You have to go into developer mode to force the higher bitrate. The issue is it is choppy at the highest bitrate so it doesn't help.

I don't own the Ultra... not sure if I will. But if anyone wants to know why all the criticism of the camera and people maybe regretting their purchase...

The Ultra is $1400 dollars... One Thousand - Four Hundred... Dollars. That's a lot!

And let's be totally honest... the main difference between the + and the Ultra... the main reason you are paying the $200 premium and the phone is $400 over the $1000 barrier... The Ultra camera.

The Ultra is $1400... "Priced For Perfection." Best Android phone this year no doubt, but the performance, especially the camera, needed to be good enough to be at the top of the DXOMark ranking at release date. King of the Hill for a brief moment before the other Androids are released like Pixel.

And from reviews... almost pick any Youtube review... it (the cameras) run's in the pack with Pixel and iPhone 11 Pro. It's got it's strong points, it's meh points, and bad points. Almost every review as been like that. Look at UnboxedTherapy... 5 Reasons to buy the Ultra and he completely avoided the camera except he's waiting for update to fix it and the Pro Mode is the reason to buy the Ultra. And now we get a few people with phone in hand and some love it and if you do that's cool... but some are not and showing pics too and if they're not and showing you real world reason why... then they have the right to.

$1400... The phone is priced for perfection and if not perfect then Samsung set themselves up for the criticism. It's not a $1400 unique new tech flip phone where people will give the flaws a pass. It's Samsung's flagship that's suppose to blow it the competition out of the water. Display... yes it will probably be DisplayMates highest ranked panel as a new flagship should be. The camera... I guess all point to it being better than the S10 (it better) but runs in the pack with Pixel and iPhone.

We'll see. my Note 8 kept rebooting randomly for a few months after launch until enough updates took care of it. I believe there are always a few bugs first batch owners will experience and hopefully an update or two will eventually resolve it. But as it stands now, it's small comfort to the people that spend the money and are waiting for a software update to... hopefully... fix their issue.

I mentioned unlocking developer options :) I thought forcing it might help with the choppiness. Guess not though.

Sorry for this post; however, I cannot seem to unsubscribe from these forums unless I post a message and then go to advanced. Here's the message I received. Sorry again for this slight intrusion.

I'll be keeping my ultra. The screen is bigger, the camera is better than the lower models. I did not get it for the 100X zoom. I saw examples of it before that. The thing that sold me is the optical zoom. If I wanted a lesser optical zoom I would have just kept the Note 10+. The 30X zoom, while its not perfect, it is VERY good. The 5X and 10x are great!! After that, forget it. I have seen examples where the 30X zoom on the lesser models, looks like the 100X on the ultra.

Oh yeah i will also use it as a phone, a device for texting, a device to control my smart devices, a computer, a way to browse the web, play games, watch streaming, a GPS with live traffic reports, etc.... is it spendy? yep. I could have spent the same amount of money on a device with a lesser screen, lesser ram, lesser cpu, lesser camera, etc.... but oh boy, I would be able to fold it in half.

No regrets here whatsoever.

It all boils down to personal preference. You like it...great! You hate it...return it. Simple.
