Are you gonna buy it?

I didn't know the iPhone had wireless charging, an sd slot, and removable battery. You know, since those are critical features that make a device "premium"

First of all, Apple devices have always been priced higher than Android phones with higher margins and it's just because they can. Why in the world would any Android fan want a Google phone with Apple pricing? Oh yeah, it does have a really cool dual camera system on the Plus which you ignored from my list. The SD821 also does not compare to the A10 in performance or in battery efficiency.

The HTC 10 could be slower by milliseconds maybe. It's a fast phone. Not everybody puts that much weight into shaving off fractions in speed as that critical. The cam is the best one HTC has put out. Best out there? Nah, of course not, but damn good and the OIS helps make it so. Amoled over LCD is personal preference. Look at the millions of iPhone users. That could care less and tons of them are as tech nerdy as Google fans. What one person prizes in a new phone another says "meh". Not knocking the pixel, would love to have one. Looking forward to see how it all shakes out.

I like the HTC 10 and I don't put a huge emphasis on speed, but better is better. I would disagree that many iPhone users are techy or at least that they buy iPhones for any technical reasons. I'd argue they buy iPhones because they like the software environment because it is simple and familiar. Everyone I personally know with an iPhone is the exact opposite of techy.

First question, will the unlocked version support WiFi calling, will the Verizon model? My 6P doesn't.

The phone supports Wi-Fi calling. In fact, Project Fi is built with that in mind and the only phones that work on Project Fi are Nexus/Pixel phones. Whether the phone would do it for you depends on your carrier, I imagine.

I was really skeptical when they did away with the Nexus Brand and now I am really disappointed. While it is probably a good phone, and I want to like the phone as I have loved my nexus experiences, there are too many cons, but here is my list:

1) Even the XL is too small (I am still rocking a Nexus6 and that is too much of a step down size-wise)
2) Too expensive
3) Too much of an iphone look-a-like
4) That HIDEOUSLY huge bottom bezel that does nothing. You know who else has a huge bottom bezel... the Iphone but atleast it has its button located there so it is not wasted space. I mean really why not use that space to make the screen bigger. There are no buttons there, there is no fingerprint scanner there, there is nothing but dead useless hideous space.
5) its ugly. The color scheme is gimicky, the glass back is ugly and don't make me mention those top and bottom bezels again.

My problem is that I am stuck on Verizon and there are no good big (6+) android phones on that network. I really just want the biggest phone possible with good specs and immediate software updates (would love an asus zenfone 3 ultra/nexus hybrid) Maybe the lg V20 will be decent and on verizon.

Were did you read that the SD 821 doesn't perform as well as the A10 and is less battery efficient? I thought the Pixel phones were the first to run this processor.

I'm seriously considering getting one, which tells me it's time for bed. I tend to do a lot of my very spurious shopping after popping an ambien.

I loved my 6p, until I went thru the refurbished musical chair game with them. Thought everything was fine, but I really think my screen is off or something as far as sensitivity or placement of my finger. It just doesn't seem to be accurate. If it wasn't for that one issue, I probably wouldn't even think about getting a phone this year.

But (dang Ambien), I do find myself drawn to it. I do like the latest and greatest things, but don't always need them, especially at this price right now. I'm 95% done with getting my HTC vive setup after a long grueling process of actually building my first pc to run it - took me longer to research what I needed or wanted than doing. So the daydream portion isn't a huge aspect of my decision... But it does help.

I'm telling myself to go to bed now because I have already ordered one of the Google home devices. I sure hope she gets along with my Alexa and her 2 sisters Dot and Dottie. I know Google was wanting to strong arm a few things there - I don't need them running amuck in my house.

I'll check back in when I buy the stupid phone, I already know it's going to happen.

Oh, and to the person who said something about the cat 12 modem and tmobile not being compatible, I did get an email last night saying they have enabled new features - but I don't know what they were now. But it said only the Galaxy s7 series would be able to use it and after a software update next week I think. I'll look and report back.

Today,*I’m proud to announce that we’re first (again) to introduce new technology that delivers a massive 2x speed boost to customers.*4x4 MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) doubles the number of data paths between a cell site and your phone.* Double the paths = up to double the speed than before!*

But, we’re not stopping there. Today,*we’re also first to launch another new technology – 256 QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) for downloads and 64 QAM for uploads.**These new technologies increase the number of bits delivered per transmission for even faster speeds. In fact,*combined with 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM delivers download speeds up to a blazing fast 400 Mbps.*
*
256 QAM and 64 QAM are already live in half our network, and by end of October, we’ll light up*every*single cell site across our nationwide network. Customers with the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will be able to use this new technology with a software update in October, with more phones on the way.

I am an iPhone owner, but not some kind of crazy apple fan. Android is a wonderful eco-system. Here is my honest opinion on Pixel XL.

1) Its a great device, the build quality is good, it indeed feels premium. However i find the look and feel of iPhone better, not because i own an iPhone, but this is what i feel, I was watching the whole google event live.
2) The camera is great as said, the best smartphone camera in the world. I would love to see the actual review.
3) The OS is amazing, google assistance is great, maybe better than Siri. The way its synchronised with the home appliances using google home is something i wouldn't have imagined in my dreams, until i saw the event.
4) The UI is smooth, refined. I am sure it will be as smooth as iPhone, when I touch my wife's Note 5, which is also an excellent smartphone with latest hardwares, i still find it bit jaggy compared to my iPhone 6s plus. So i hope that will not be the case with Pixel XL.

I think there is only one area which I might dislike about Pixel line up. That is the screen to body ratio. Now that huge gap in the bottom looks odd. There is no home button, so that gap looks bad. I will be honest, I don't like on screen navigations. capacitive home button that we have in HTC 10 is amazing, Google should have implemented a capacitive home button for its pixel line ups.

Rest i will wait for the actual review. But in future if I get a chance to have multiple smartphones, I would definitely prefer Pixel Xl over note 7. About the price. Its the googles answer to iPhone so it is meant to be a premium quality device, not some kind of cheap knock like nexus 4
2)

Huh? Google play music is in the cloud so don't care about local storage and you have the 128 GB option anyway. I mean we get it you like the HTC 10 and HTC. I do like the HTC 10 as well and if has its limitations like every other phone.
What I don't get is the urge for you to come to every device thread (you did this for Note 7 as well) and say every device is inferior to HTC 10. Everyone has their likes and dislikes, not sure why do you care if someone buys the pixel, HTC 10, Note 7 or whatever else.

There are occasions where you do not have Internet access, so having music locally is important. Tell me please, how would you stream music from the Internet when in a long flight with no Internet connection?

About the Note thing, I believe everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. I am not bashing anything. I said I don't like the Note.

Here I am saying that of course I like the Pixel, but I cannot justify the price, when I compare it to my current device. Of course I am interested in Google phones and yes, I will continue participating in whichever forum I want.
I am not bashing the Pixel, I am expressing my thoughts on it.
Anyway, I am not sure that Google is doing the right thing here. They are fragmenting the Android world even more, by introducing Pixel specific features. I understand the urge to do that, since every OEM has its own Android variant out there, but I do not like that Nexus phones will not have all features of the Pixel.
Of course Google needs good arguments to sell the Pixel...

No.

One of the ugliest flagships in history. The price I can understand but none of this makes sense. I'm stunned what Google produced.

I'm actually happy that Google offered virtually the same specs in both the smaller and larger iteration of their phone. With that said, I can't justify in myself to pay 1K+ for a phone when I've had Nexus phones the last 3 years. If I do bite the bullet, it'll probably be the regular Pixel.

That price sure is a turn-off in my opinion. I'm looking at phones in the same price range as the LG G5, and that one is currently being sold for about 400 euros. Unless there is some magic involved - I won't buy it. Looks like it has a nice software experience though.

A flagship device that comes at a premium price, should indeed be good, but it should look pretty too

No it doesn't. Most everybody is going to throw it into a case anyway. And by the way, several of the hands-on impression videos I saw today said it is an attractive device in person.

Definitily will go for the XL as soon as my contract is due for upgrade next month. Too pricey to buy for me but carphone warehouse seem to have some good offers in UK.
