Battery drain issue after 4.4.3

Clearing an app's individual cache in the Settings>Apps menu shouldn't really delete any significant personal data--it's only temporary stuff the app uses to work more quickly and efficiently. You shouldn't have to relogin to the app.

false. it does.

We are talking about Clear Cache, and not Clear Data, right?

i think we are talking about 3 different things -

1. Wipe Partition Cache = no data loss.
2. Settings-->Apps->App "X"-->Clear Cache = no data loss.
3. Settings-->Storage-->Cached Data-->Clear?-->OK = yes data loss.

now that i re-read your comment i think you were talking about #2 and i was talking about #3.

Yep, that's correct.

For which app? That has never happened for me. Can you give an example?

Has never happened to me either. Clearing cache (for individual apps) shouldn't clear any settings or preferences or actual data, just cache. But I don't find it to be all that useful anyway... clearing the cache partition always seems like the better route.

UPDATE: He now said "3. Settings-->Storage-->Cached Data-->Clear?-->OK = yes data loss." yes, that is a little different. That should still not delete any settings or preferences though. That has more to do with browser cached pages and such. It still really shouldn't remove anything of any "value" that can't be re-generated automatically.

I actually didn't look closely enough at #3. But that should still only be cached, noncrucial data. That shouldn't delete login passwords, should it? I thought that was just the total of all the app caches. Let me try clearing right now.

OK, just cleared cache data in Settings/Storage/Cached Data, and so far I don't have to reenter login info.

This is pretty bad! I cleared cache via recovery method, as I was worried about battery life. Went from 71% to 17% ... in two hours, with zero usage! The only thing I did was cycle a few kms.

Hi,

I've been having the battery drain problem ever since I got 4.4.3 a couple days ago. Things were seemingly fine on the day I got it... but then a full charge that lasts 1.5 days to 2 days now runs out in 4 hours if allowed to. I was trying to figure out which app was causing this... but there is nothing conclusive there. Facebook shows, then if I kill it g+ shows...if I kill that hangouts appears... if I kill that whatsapp shows up. I don't believe there is anything wrong with these apps.

I do think the problem is elsewhere... I did notice that no-one could ring my phone at that time. My friend had tried calling me and the network had responded that my phone was unreachable. Thankfully, he sent me an email. I tried calling myself from my wifes phone and got the same message. A reboot fixed it... for a while, but then the problem only returned. I thought about it for a while... and this morning I switched my network selection to 2G... and its been a couple hours already and no stalling. Guess what!!! my battery drain graph looks a lot better too. The line is almost a flat horizontal.

This analysis may not be conclusive for all.. but maybe we can isolate the issue to the android system itself, and not keep wiping our data caches... because the problem doesn't seem to be there. I don't like being on 2G, but I don't want to miss any important calls either. So until I see a solution, I'll go back 5 years in time and gloat about my EDGE data connection. Thank heavens there is high speed wifi.

Hope that helps

I nearly burned my leg today having updated yesterday. Had to recharge the phone at midday because it was nearly run out, and now back down to 20%. The main culprits are apparently screen 29% and Android System 10%. Google Play Services (which shouldn't be doing anything as I've not installed anything new, and my apps were all up to date and have not updated within this period) is 7%.
This morning I was not even using the phone, but I was in an area where the mobile signal is not very good. This evening, there is a major drop in the battery at a time when I was using Runkeeper with GPS on, wi-fi off and reading my kindle as I walked around. The mobile signal would have varied significantly from good 3G to nothing. I have done that many times with 4.4.2 without any bother at all.

Worse, 4.4.3 has broken my rSAP app, so I can no longer use my phone with the installed car bluetooth. B#####y Google does it again. Every update has had a major problem - from breaking Norton anti virus to this fiasco. Windows phone for me next.

BTW, why did Android Central not recognise me when I tried to log in. For goodness sake, I use a password manager so there is no way I forgot my password.

This really sounds like an app issue to me...I am running stock and am not having any of these problems. I know one other guy with a Nexus 5 and same thing...no major issues.

I'd do a factory reset and see if you are still having the same issue running stock. If not, then you know for sure it is an app issue. If you do have the same problems, I'd assume it is hardware related at that point.

I went the extreme route and factory reset. Back to very good battery life.

This.

I almost RMA'd my phone once months ago after I bought it. Google made me do a factory reset as a condition of the RMA process. Magically, it worked fine after that. It turned out the problem was an app that had a bug (I thought my display was damaged and the very center was not responding, but it turned out this app was responsible...the developer has since fixed it).

If the problem was really with Google, I think you'd see masses of people with this same issue.

I'm experiencing immense battery drain after I installed the update yesterday. When I check the battery usage, it says 51% from sdcard. I'm confused.

That's weird--sdcard isn't an app. Can you show us a screenshot of that?

I've completed the process. The sdcard thing is still there, but I'll wait and see if it's draining my battery or not.

Regarding the OP topic, my cousin was getting bad battery drain on his N5 after the 4.4.3 update. I had him wipe the cache from recovery, and he told me it seems better.

I'm getting terrible battery drain since the update. Not sure why?
